A Jigger in South Australia

So, how does the power from the engine reach the wheels? No drive shaft, maybe a hydraulic motor on the back wheels, but I see no obvious hydraulic hoses or pipes.
FrenchFryCattaneo@reddit
There's a driveshaft running vertically at the back. In the first picture you can see the blue assembly behind the drivers seat. That's a truck rear end, the round thing behind the seat is the brake drum. They're using the differential in it as a 90 degree gear to send the power down. Pretty crazy.
TutorNo8896@reddit
Yeah i see it. Blue differential is at 90° to the engine, running a driveshaft / lengthened axleshaft down to a second diff for the rear wheels that is probally mounted with the input pointed up at the first diff. Neat.

You can buy right angle drive units from industrial surplus warehouses.
A lighter duty tractor could be built out of a riding mower. Those frequently have vertical shaft engines and a transaxle with a vertical input.
FrenchFryCattaneo@reddit
There are so many better ways this could have been built, but you can tell they were just piecing together what they could find at the junkyard.

I kept looking. I think it's a reversed 2wd truck based on the leaf springs. I think the drive shaft is running thru the blue box at the driver's feet and then down the back with an enclosed chain to a second driveshaft going to the front (rear) wheels.

I think you are right after a closer look. But it takes a 90 degree gear at the very back. Interesting.

It runs on the grumpiness of it’s curmudgeon owner

That thing flies if you are a few minutes late.
eightstravels@reddit
It has to be hydraulics to the back wheels, nothing else would work with the views we have (no drive shaft to be seen). If only they included a view from the back! The lines can be pretty thin though, imagine there is room on the back for them where we can’t see

I guess this doesn't get out on the roads
EvLev2@reddit (OP)
It’s fully registered for driving on the roads. The guy has a house in town and seen him driving by the camp site, very weird to see
OldWrangler9033@reddit
I guess the safety standards for the roads are wee bit different in Australia

I can smell it

That is the most redneck, post-apocalyptic, Mad Max esque vehicle I've ever seen. But damn I bet it sucks to change a tire on that.

Here's the non-redneck version:

That’s impressive.

Just have to remember to set the kickstand before you start jacking.

Looks like something you'd see in the Lost Highway level in Half Life 2.

A cross between Highway 17 and Lost Coast sounds fun

lol I thought I might be remembering the name wrong, been a while since I did a playthrough of hl2.
