What's your most played CD people of the UK?
Posted by Various_Extreme_8773@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 201 comments
Mine has to be Substance New Order.
It has 4 cds so a lot to listen too, it's probably been played at least once a week for the past 30 odd years.
nintair@reddit
I recently listened to Evelyn Evelyn. Its really good and resonated with me but its kinda odd so you might not like it
Key_Milk_9222@reddit
The Doors - Soft Parade.
AdLower3335@reddit
KLF - The White Room
Capta1n_Sully@reddit
From my youth, Limp Bizkit - Chocolate starfish. Still love some of Wes Borlands riffs even now
Johny_boii2@reddit
The grateful dead American beauty
Extension_Pickle_581@reddit
The Holy Bible by the Manic Street Preachers, especially the US mix.
S3F_83@reddit
Back in the day it was probably Wu-Tang Forever.
Chance_Way5601@reddit
SWV - Right Here. It’s just a pure banger
mackerel_slapper@reddit
Commiserations. My most played album is Eddie and the Hot Rods, Life on the Line but that’s maybe a little niche. If you like air drumming it’s good though (or play drums for real, like me). Moby’s Hotel. Also Tubular Bells, Pink Floyd’s Animals, Overkill and Aftershock by Motörhead.
bambatigerlilly@reddit
Aztec Camera - High Land Hard Rain
thejazzassassin@reddit
Actual CD? Probably Dangerous by MJ. I can still do the rap from Jam. It's also the CD I've bought the most, as everyone I've lent it to over the years has ended up nicking it.
It's underrated, especially coming after the monster album that was Bad, but it's absolute peak early 90s pop/rock/hip-hop/New Jack shit with the best producers and a ridiculous band.
Do you remember the time?
Mikeytee1000@reddit
Stone Roses, Stone Roses
pamplemouse5@reddit
PJ Harvey, Rid Of Me The National, High Violet.
Mikeytee1000@reddit
Plus one for High Violet
muppetmat13@reddit
Probably an MP3 CD I made of every Reel Big Fish album. It was my in car CD for literally about 18 months...🤣
Enough-Ad3818@reddit
Realising you could fit so many more mp3s onto a large capacity CD, was a truly pivotal moment for the youth of the 00s.
I don't think I had a single official album in my car, but possibly 50 burnt CDs.
Enough-Ad3818@reddit
"Suburbia I've Given You Everything" by The Wonder Years, or maybe "The Greatest Generation" by the same band.
Weirdly, my favourite track from them is 'Low Tide', which isn't on either of those albums.
Outside of that, perhaps "I Am The Movie" by Motion City Soundtrack.
UnderstandingFar6589@reddit
That’s awful news- I’m sorry.
In terms of CDs- re-load and S&M by Metallica even though they’re probably not the most loved by others. On the more mellow side ‘the earth is not a cold dead place’ by explosions in the sky
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Cheers. Ight take a listen to them two.
Willing-Rest-758@reddit
Substance is only 2CDs. Where you getting the extra two discs from? 🤔
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Sorry already answered this. The original has 2 but the rerelease has 4 my mistake
AlarmingLook2441@reddit
Depeche Mode - 101.
Mother_Ad7869@reddit
The best live album ever 📣😀😀
AlarmingLook2441@reddit
Agree, best enjoyed at night, in a VW Golf GTI, on a motorway.
Duckboythe5th@reddit
At the moment? Black Samson the bastard swordsman, Wu-tang Clan
mad-un@reddit
Probably The Best of The Beatles
BlackJackKetchum@reddit
My tastes have ebbed and flowed since I bought my first album circa 1980, but John Cooper Clarke’s ‘Snap, Crackle [&] Bop’ has never been out of rotation. I can recite ‘Beasley Street’ flawlessly.
docju@reddit
Tie between American Idiot (Green Day) and Document (REM)
kestrelita@reddit
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. I basically wore it out.
Dannypan@reddit
Will you be seeing them this summer?
kestrelita@reddit
I got overexcited last year, and saw them in Toronto instead of waiting for a European tour to be announced like a sensible human being...
AClockworkLaurenge@reddit
That's one MCR gig, yes. But what about second MCR gig?
kestrelita@reddit
Couldn't get tickets 😭
intenseskill@reddit
My daughter went to see them in Manchester a few years ago and got me a baseball cap which I put in washer and warped it :(
kestrelita@reddit
Oh no!!
theegrimrobe@reddit
kind of blue by miles davis or songs of love and hate by leonard cohen ... im not sure which is more but those are the 2 most i think
sniffing_dog@reddit
Well last year my most played single on Spotify was Ride by Lana Del Rey. Most played album was The Soft Machine Vol 1. Physically, I've got Doolittle by Pixies on tape, vinyl and on Spotify, and I'd say, since 1990, it's become the album I'm still fascinated with.
yiddoboy@reddit
Bat Out Of Hell .. Meatloaf. Played that thing to death when I first bought it, and regularly since. Closely followed by Brothers in Arms, Dire Straits.....Invisible Touch by Genesis and Hounds of Love by Kate Bush.
Wheresmymindoffto@reddit
The cult - love. Saw them live in 88 and still listen to this fantastic àlbum. Then it would be the Smiths- rank. Then Tool - laterulas
kackers643259@reddit
Probably Songs For The Deaf or The Downward Spiral
bahumat42@reddit
Linkin park - Meteora
For physical cd listens anyway. I stopped buying phsyical albums a few years after that so it didn't have a lot of competition.
For digital or track I have no idea.
Various-Flower510@reddit
I dont listen to CDs but id have to say the album i tend to listen to most would be James Blunt Back To Bedlam🤣 which is a lil embarrassing to admit lol
Organic-Objective552@reddit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6s2OouzFKs
DiegoJusticia@reddit
Nope - putting aside the 'it's trendy to snark at JB" trope, it's a great album.
Morganx27@reddit
To be fair, it was trendy about 20 years ago. If anything, it's now painfully passé to snark at James Blunt. It's trendy now to pretty much forget he existed, which I did until right now. I imagine that regardless of whether people snark at him, forget him or praise him, he still sleeps on a big pile of money every night from his "You're Beautiful" royalties.
idcalvin@reddit
I used to be dismissive, when he first appeared. But he's very self deprecating and funny, so I've grown to like him more than the music.
Various-Flower510@reddit
Love this thank u lol team JB🥲
Tom_FooIery@reddit
He’s not my cup of tea, but he’s very, very good at what he does.
Rossco1874@reddit
Post your comment onto his twitter & accept your fate of being abused by the man himself.
Various-Flower510@reddit
I dont use twitter🤣😭
hartlandking@reddit
Given you an upvote because of how embarrassing that confession is
Various-Flower510@reddit
Gonna try defend myself and say my music taste is all over the place and my playlist is full of all sorts but that full album is defo on there and i rarely skip a James Blunt song when it comes on🤣
fruitcakefriday@reddit
Probably either Panopticon or In The Absence of Truth by ISIS (No, not that ISIS). Or ÆNIMA by Tool.
ProfPMJ-123@reddit
I'll ignore the fact I've not played a CD in 15 years, having switched to Spotify a long time ago, but my most listened to album across my life will either be Wish You Were Here or Brothers In Arms.
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Sorry I'm a dinosaur lol.
Dnny10bns@reddit
I've only recently discovered Spotify too. I'm late 40s so I'm stuck in my ways. Got vinyl, CDs, cassettes, MP3s, etc. Highly recommend Spotify if you like music. It's free to use, you just can't cycle through tunes and you eventually run out of being able to select the track you want. But it's great if you just want to build a playlist. Been using it a lot since the new year. They're always doing deals too. Think my most recent was £0 for 3 months.
MoonShineWashingLine@reddit
I still have around 250 CD's and have a CD player in my car. I shall never part with them.
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
I don't blame you. I remember when they first come out, I was amazed.
mjratchada@reddit
Not heard any stockbroker rock in a while
Jolly_Report4@reddit
Dark side of the moon
bopeepsheep@reddit
Divine Comedy, Promenade, or The Stone Roses, The Stone Roses. Probably tied.
Dnny10bns@reddit
Can't go wrong with the smiths. Most of their albums are good. My favourite era for music is probably late 70s, early 80s. So anything around then.
hoganpaul@reddit
It will be one of these:
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Peter Gabriel - Secret World Live
Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Searching For the Young Soul Rebels
But as I don't count them I couldn't tell you which.
RiotSloth@reddit
Excellent taste, Sir.
Educational_Camp_602@reddit
I listen to Band On The Run a lot. I understand that Wings are not to everyone’s taste.
RiotSloth@reddit
Bloody brilliant album!
K0monazmuk@reddit
LTJ Bukem - Logical Progression, played weekly for the past 30 years.
RiotSloth@reddit
Oh man, how many nights have I spent with eyes like pool balls listening to that and Goldie's Timeless? Too many to count!
spoo4brains@reddit
Big up da junglist massive!
spoo4brains@reddit
Big up da junglist massive!
RiotSloth@reddit
Chill Out - KLF. Took the CD with me all over the world, to Uni, played and played and played.
Waftycrank69@reddit
Well it used to be the first 4 albums by The Wonder Stuff - I used to play them regularly and depending on which one I'd left nearby was the one I played.
However, I now think they've been overtaken by Fleetwood Mac 25 years: The Chain.
intenseskill@reddit
Maybe pure garage 4 or an eminem album back in the day
Don187@reddit
Gang Starr - moment of truth and MF DOOM - Doomsday (the only CDs in my car atm)
Toffee963@reddit
ABBA Gold
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Great choice
SunDriedFart@reddit
either Blink 182 - Enema of the State or Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
Morganx27@reddit
Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is my favourite album title of all time. I've never listened to the album, I don't know for certain that I've ever listened to a Blink 182 album, but sometimes I remember that phrase and laugh to myself.
klymers@reddit
As someone who does love CDs, I thought about this for a while, mentally going through my collection. And then I realised it was obvious and I was daft to consider anything else.
American Idiot by Green Day. Wore my CD out and had to buy a new one. Still kept the original one just for the memory of how much I love that album and how much it changed my life.
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)

I saw her in Brixton 2017? She sucked that night I can’t lie 😭, also nearly got crushed, bound to happen but 2 people got crushed in Brixton academy a couple years back, sad
Dannypan@reddit
She's never been strong live from what I've seen. Much more of a studio artist than a live performer.
BoysenberryTiny8138@reddit
She sounded like a frog, I thought she was ill, turns out from other gigs, she just sucks live lol
Dannypan@reddit
If I still had CDs it'd be Black Holes and Revelations by Muse. My favourite album of all time.
AutisticElephant1999@reddit
Probably the Dubliners CD my parents have had for as long as I can remember, but I have not been counting

Yes, first time I heard "Pouring water on a drowning man", I dropped my glass of scotch in shock. Then badgered the DJ in telling me WTF are you playing. What a trajic life he lead for such an outstanding voice.

Most played is probably Champion Sounds by DJ Skully, I was on the 4th one when I finally lost all ability to play a CD.
It's the most played physical CD because it's not been uploaded by anyone that I've been able to find. Last time I checked there was one copy left on discogs.
After that probably Live at the Social - Chemical Brothers.

A 4 CD set of Substance from 30 years ago you say??
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Sorry the original has 2 but the rerelease I bought had 4. You are correct.
catmatix@reddit
Was gonna ask you if you were a reanimated Tony Wilson and start offering you hard cash!
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Haha. I did meet Mr Wilson a few times though as for my sins I worked on the doors at the Hacienda, only for a few months. But he was a good bloke.
catmatix@reddit
Ace! I think I got as far as exchanging glances with him as he was crossing Piccadilly back in the late 90s. I did randomly meet Alan Erasmus 2 years back as I was passing Factory HQ on Palatine road. He was really cool, chatted for 5 mins and asked me 'Is that Chris Lowe on your t-shirt?'
3lbFlax@reddit
In terms of the original question mine is probably The Velvet Underground and Nico, because that was the first CD I ever bought and I hit it pretty hard.
In terms of recommendations here I have a fantastic 5 CD set of Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five that I’d recommend to anyone, bursting with creativity, craftsmanship and bonhomie. If I had to be hunkered down with any one item in my collection, I think it’d be that. It’s on Spotify under the full group name as individual albums (disc A to disc E), but just play Jordan at random for much the same effect.
I hope you get plenty of winning suggestions and I wish you well.
Pentax25@reddit
I only own two CDs. High School Musical, and a free one I got with Nintendo magazine years ago of the Super Smash Bros Melee concert.
