Do you own and use an iron?

I know clothing fabrics have changed over time to wrinkle less, but I occasionally see fellow office workers wearing wrinkly clothes and it got me wondering. I remember my mom spending a lot of time ironing clothes when I was growing up.
I feel like I know more people with steamers than irons these days (I'm one of them myself).
MM_in_MN@reddit
Yes- but I sew.
When I need garments pressed properly, I just drop them at the dry cleaners. It’s rare I iron my own clothes, other than when I am making them. Yes, I know that doesn’t make any sense.
cindyb0202@reddit
I own and use one weekly.
Important_Canary6766@reddit
I still iron clothing when it really needs it.
milkandsugar@reddit
Both iron and steamer. I like natural fibers like cotton, linen, silk, etc. and those things wrinkle. Ironing is pretty easy and I'd rather do it than wear wrinkled clothes.
GardenWitchMom@reddit
We iron every week with laundry. I also have a steamer I use on fabrics that don't like heat.
I also iron my tablecloth for my dining room and the top edges of my sheets. A few of my kitchen tea towels get ironed if the hem starts to curl.
bugga2024@reddit
I have one that I maybe use once a year when there's a funeral or wedding that we need to attend. Other than that, my husband is blue collar and I'm a stay at home mom so we never need ironed clothing
sluttypidge@reddit
Yes. I sew so it's my best friend some days.
Prestigious-Web4824@reddit
Yes
fshannon3@reddit
We have an iron and use it on occasion. Not very much though.
Recently bought a steamer and have used the a few times in recent weeks. My wife has had some shirts that were wrinkled so she just takes the steamer to it and that'll get the wrinkles out.
Shoddy-Secretary-712@reddit
I own an iron. I mostly use it for my kids perler beads.
ReginaPhalange219@reddit
That's why I have one too. It's for crafts, not clothes.
Chuckitybye@reddit
Mine is for clothes!
That I'm making... so, yeah, crafts.
My boyfriend bought it for me when I started sewing, lol
ReginaPhalange219@reddit
They do come in handy for a hemline!
Chuckitybye@reddit
And crisp seams! I swear I spend more time ironing than sewing, but I do love my creations
Suppafly@reddit
My wife and kid often cut out the sewing part and just use the heat activated tape stuff for hems.
Push_the_button_Max@reddit
Ironing is the bane of our existence- when I was younger, I used to skip it…
Then…I saw someone create 2 identical shirts, and she made one without pressing in between steps, and one with.
The difference was horrifying! I press, now.
Chuckitybye@reddit
I know! Makes me mad that it works so well, lmfao
CaptainPunisher@reddit
That's pretty much the only time I iron anything. When I was teaching I might be running late and, rather than ironing, I'd just mist my shirt with some water from a spray bottle and put it in lightly damp. With my body heat, the shirt would look nice but the time I made it to school.
Push_the_button_Max@reddit
As it turns out, just misting/spraying any hanging shirt with water gets the horizontal wrinkles out.
I used to wear a lot of linen tunic shirts, that would wrinkle from wearing my seatbelt in my car.
I finally kept a small spray bottle of water in my car, and lightly sprayed the waist when I exited my car, and the wrinkles would be gone almost immediately.
timstiefler@reddit
lol, I'm really envious.
EyeH8EweTwo@reddit
This is so wrong... and iron should also be used for the occasional grilled cheese... not just crafts.
Apart_Insect_8859@reddit
My iron is for quilting.
I kind of don't give a crap if my clothes are wrinkled.
gonyere@reddit
Mine is for sewing. And I'm not sure the last time I sewed. At least 6-9+ years ago my

mvanpeur@reddit
That's exactly what I was going to say! I have used the iron of sewing probably in the last 5 years. I haven't ironed clothes to wear in at least a decade. But I use it for Perler beads all the time.

i love an iron
Suppafly@reddit
I own one. I mostly never use it. I don't think most people iron their clothing outside of special occasions. I suspect there are some families that are still weird about ironing everything, but that's mostly went away as stay at home housewives have went away.
hotpossum@reddit
I was just talking with someone about this. I don’t own an iron. If it can’t be de-wrinkled in the dryer, oh well. It drives my mom nuts.
Hot_Meringue_2827@reddit
No because I don't own fancy clothes. Haven't worn an office shirt since 2008
Bluemonogi@reddit
I own an iron but use it for craft projects rather than clothes. My household doesn’t really wear clothes that need ironing now.
ShesGotaChicken2Ride@reddit
I own an iron but I never use it because I have a steamer and I think it just works better and doesn’t damage the fabric.
OctoMatter@reddit
I own one and use it maybe twice a year
JoeMorgue@reddit
Nope. No iron, no ironing board, no fabric steamer. My dryer has a "steam dewrinkle" setting and if clothes don't come out of the dryer ready to wear, they don't go my normal rotation.
I have two suits, 3 dress shirts, 1 pair of khaki dress pants, and all the assorted accessories cleaned and pressed at the cleaners hanging up in my closet if needed. Everything else outside of a few rarely worn incidentals is wash and wear.
And I do not want to hear it. I was in the Navy for 20 years. I paid my fucking clothes dues. I dry cleaned and starched and pressed and military creased and spit shined and shaped hats and bloused boots. I've proven whatever "Show me you can maintain a hard to maintain wardrobe" character test there is, I'm done.
Push_the_button_Max@reddit
Our “steam touch-up” setting (de-wrinkle) on our dryer is a life saver, I LOVE it!
Of course, the guy installing our gas dryer 13 years ago was confused as hell- he did NOT want to add the water line to the dryer. I had to patiently coax him into it, finally by showing him the manual.
novkit@reddit
I still cannot believe they got rid of working whites and blues. While a pain, I loved my working uniforms. We were the best dressed branch of the military.
Now it's bland khakis.
JoeMorgue@reddit
It feels like I went through like 4000 different uniforms while I was in.
crinnaursa@reddit
Yes but not regularly most of my clothes are knits. I wouldn't however wear wrinkly clothes. My iron has a steam sitting and I use that for most minor wrinkles but anyone in the house is wearing That could be wrinkly I will be ironing it first.
torchwood1842@reddit
I have one, I know how to use it, and at this point, I only own/wear clothes that don’t have to be ironed. Life is too short to deal with that.
Impressive_Ad8715@reddit
I don’t use my 3 iron, but use 4-9 irons
SnooOranges6608@reddit
Yes. I sew and half of sewing is actually ironing! I also prefer natural fibers and i find a quick once over with an iron makes them look a lot better.
crypticcamelion@reddit
Yes it is. I can recommend that you buy a good professional iron build into a good board with air and everything. My wife is also sewing and we have waited way too many years before we bought the expensive professional board. It's 100% worth it. I'm the one doing the table cloth, and with that board it's actually a pleasure.
SnooOranges6608@reddit
I should do this, I've been using a cheap iron that's probably 10 years old and a cheap ironing board. I just tried to iron some antique sheets and it was killing me.
Push_the_button_Max@reddit
Ooh, I bought a “higher end” Rowena iron- it’s like butter, it irons so smoothly!
Consistent_Post_2558@reddit
Yep, same - I hardly ironed before I started sewing… but now I do it fairly often. If the iron is always out/set up anyways it doesn’t take much effort to neaten things up - though I prefer to avoid anything that is going to need serious, detailed regular ironing once completed.
jessipowers@reddit
It feels like 50% cutting, 40% ironing, 5% pinning, and 5% sewing, lol.
Chuckitybye@reddit
Half is generous... I swear it's more like 70%, with 20% cutting out the pattern, and 5% actually using the machine.
The other 5% is unpicking seams...

I own one, and it pretty much only gets pulled out before funerals or job interviews.
DaytimeDawg1951@reddit
Yes, to wax my skis.⛷️
Outlaw_Josie_Snails@reddit
Yes. An iron and a steam cleaner.
Ravenclaw79@reddit
I own one, but I mostly use it for Girl Scout badges. We don’t often wear formal stuff that needs to be ironed
MomRaccoon@reddit
I own an iron and a steamer. I also wear a lot of linen, but 95% of the time, I don't need either. I'm most likely to use either one when getting out my stored summer clothes.
Coidzor@reddit
Used to own one but we haven't used one in over a decade.
2PlasticLobsters@reddit
No, I only buy clothes that don't need ironing. Although there's one in our current furnished rental house. I plan to use it to apply some mending patches in the near future. Just as soon as I remember to buy a fire extinguisher.
nosidrah@reddit
I own one but the only time I use an iron is in a hotel room to get the wrinkles out of the clothes I packed.
Castronautik@reddit
I have one. I bought it in college where I had a portfolio class, and we had to dress up for a business interview, and were graded on appearance including if the clothes were ironed.
After that I've only used it a few times. When I need to go to something more formal, like a wedding, I might make sure the clothes are ironed.
But for day to day clothes and even work wear, I won't use it.
No_Button_1750@reddit
I’m ex-Army and my husband is still serving Army. We believe in irons and good quality ones. We were at a hotel in DC recently and they had an effing steamer as the alternative to just having an effing iron! A steamer does not do the same, or as good a quality job, as an iron.
People who don’t iron clothes that clearly need to be ironed should do better (I’ll take all the down votes and excuses for why people aren’t ironing) and they’re right up there with people who fail to get their children to brush their hair and wash their face before leaving the house in the morning. Have some standards people!!
Also I’m not actually anal about ironing despite my rant but if it should be ironed then at least try and get the wrinkles out.
Imaginary_Ladder_917@reddit
Yes, and yes, but I wait until I have a bunch to do
cmcrich@reddit
I own one, it’s probably 30 years old, I use it rarely. I have a steamer that I use more.
Entire_Dog_5874@reddit
Yes, and yes. I have a lot of natural fiber clothing like cotton and linen so I iron them regularly.
SaltMarshGoblin@reddit
I've been using the same iron since my mom bought it for me at a yard sale in the late 1980s. It's moved across the country with me! I don't use it often, but probably at least once a month.
Fickle-Range-8140@reddit
I own 2 and use them when a shitlrt I want to wear is particularly wrinkly.
I was getting ready for a funeral (20 years ago) and was looking through the cabinets. Someone asked what I was looking for and I told them. She looked at me so earnestly and said, "Oh, honey, [deceased] didn't iron." I laughed right out loud and said I knew that, but their spouse occasionally did, and the board is in this closet. We found the iron. It was barely young enough to have a plastic-covered cord (vs. cloth), and they were not that old. 😂
Responsible-Fun4303@reddit
Nope lol.
SabresBills69@reddit
I have an iron. I rarely use it. i have a small ironing board that is table top 2 ft long
LakashY@reddit
Own, yes. Use? Almost never. Mostly for iron-on patches and crafts. So almost never.
Amarastargazer@reddit
My iron is for quilting. It has ironed 0 clothes.
GypsySnowflake@reddit
Yes. I iron fairly regularly. Mostly some of my skirts and dresses and my fiancé’s dress shirts.
BearsLoveToulouse@reddit
I have one but rarely use it to iron clothes. I mostly use it for sewing.
That being said I’ve heard some friends complain how they still have laundry to iron so there are some Americans doing it- probably people who are very fashion forward
SkyerKayJay1958@reddit
I have one, but hate it. Will pull out the steamer for a batch or use the wrinkle release spray
Blutrumpeter@reddit
I have it and only use it for my fancier clothes so like once or twice a year. I usually just pop my clothes in the dryer with a wet cloth if I forget to fold them right away and they have wrinkles
kellyforeal@reddit
I had one at some point but now I just wear wrinkles unless my mom is offended and forces me to take it off.
tcrhs@reddit
I own one. I rarely use it. I throw clothes in the dryer to de-wrinkle or use wrinkle releaser.
Ayla1313@reddit
Yes, an a full sized ironing board and a tabletop size. I also own cotton ironing pads to protect certain fabrics from melting at low temp. I really only use it for the rare fancy outing now though.
Wadsworth_McStumpy@reddit
I am certain that an iron exists in my house. I haven't seen it for a couple of decades. I know where the ironing board is, though. It's in the basement, with stuff piled on top of it.
Alternative-Quit-161@reddit
Yes as with others, I sew. But I also have a fondness for cotton blouses, especially broad cloth button downs. I live putting on a crisp shirt and I dont mind ironing.
thatotterone@reddit
I used one for decades as a flight attendant. Then our last set of uniforms had a dress that didn't require ironing and I jumped on that so fast and never looked back. So..yes, I have one. Yes it is for close. No, I only very rarely use it. Last time was for a iron on patch on a backpack
Vesper2000@reddit
I own an iron but mostly use it for sewing. I prefer to steam my clothes for wearing.
CRO553R@reddit
I have 9. Which one I use depends on how far I need to hit the golf ball
Freypaints@reddit
Can’t see well without an iron. Use it for clothing, too.
Unique_Ad_3312@reddit
We have one and use it a handful of times a year, mainly for a dress shirt if my husband needs to dress up. Most things we throw in the dryer with a few ice cubes.
jawshoeaw@reddit
i had to think for a second what "an iron" meant! metal, golf club,... weird how it's fallen out of collective consciousness this much.
CalmRip@reddit
I sew. I'm also fond of natural fabrics like linen, wool, and cotton, as I find them more comfortable when the temperture goes out of "spring day" range.
Boy do I ever have an iron.
Last-Radish-9684@reddit
I own and use an iron. I use it for clothes I wear (I wear cottons, cotton/linen blends), when I am sewing (for seams/hems/interfacing etc.), and for crafts.
blumieplume@reddit
I wouldn’t want to ruin my clothes with an iron. I hang dry my clothes and smooth out the wrinkles while my clothes are still wet.
ScarletDarkstar@reddit
I own one, but I don't use it much. I have a steamer and it is much faster.
MangaMaven@reddit
I prefer to use a steamer to get wrinkles out of my clothes. I use the iron all the time for sewing.
KingOfTheFraggles@reddit
I iron a shirt 3 times a week for my husband. I also use it on all of my Christmas/Halloween table cloths and such.
Comfortable-Bike9080@reddit
yeah, everytime
d3ut1tta@reddit
Yes! We have a steamer, as well as iron + ironing board. We don't use them regularly, but have definitely busted out the steamer when we moved into our new place to steam out some of our curtains and bedding. I feel like iron moreover comes out when we need to dress formally, or one of our clothing items truly is being stubborn. We hang dry over half of our clothes, which significantly reduces the need for regular ironing.
yellowdaisycoffee@reddit
Yes, I do!
Crazycatlover@reddit
Dad used to iron while watching football. I made a conscious decision in my early teens to never purchase clothing that requires ironing.
TyraNotBanks5@reddit
I use an iron regularly. I also have a steamer but I’m bad at doing things apparently because it just didn’t work like my iron does.
Basic_Scale6330@reddit
Yep I own two clothes irons
TooManyDraculas@reddit
Yes but a wear a lot of linen in the summer. You can't steam your way out of wrinkles on that.
Also don't have a drier in my apartment. It's not worth the $2.50 to cheat.
gato-afortunado@reddit
Yes. I use it primarily when I’m sewing.
Pentagogo@reddit
Yes. My office is pretty formal and I wear a suit every day. I also sew, so I need it for pressing seams and such.
oliviamrow@reddit
Yes, but rarely. I avoid owning stuff that wrinkles easily, and the stuff that I do have that wrinkles easily tends to be for special occasions, so not often needed.
Altruistic_Error_832@reddit
I own one, but I haven't used it in at least a year.
WiseQuarter3250@reddit
I have one, I haven't used it in years. Usually, i buy fabrics that dont wrinkle or that I can hang up in the bathroom when I shower, so it steams it while I clean up.
Budsygus@reddit
I have an iron and a steamer. Most of my work shirts come out of the dryer completely wrinkle free, though. As long as I hang them up in a reasonable amount of time I don't ever need to iron them. If they're wrinkly, though, my dryer has a "Wrinkle Release" setting that sprays water and tumbles them in heat to get rid of wrinkles. It works really well for my shirts. But I remember my dad sending his shirts to be professionally laundered because my mom was sick of ironing five of his shirts every week, and so was he.
Belliott_Andy@reddit
I just use a cast iron skillet with a damp towel wrapped around it because it works just as well and I don't have to store an iron.
as1126@reddit
I have one and use it infrequently for dressy occasions when I wear a collared shirt and tie. Once. Year I also iron a big fancy holiday tablecloth.
ImLittleNana@reddit
I own two full sized iron, a mini or YTA el sized iron, and a steamer.
I don’t use any of them on clothing because I don’t wear the kind of clothing that needs ironing anymore.
I still have the hand me down ironing board I got when I was getting married. My grandmother didn’t know exactly how old it was, but she thought 10 or 15 years old.
That was in 1985 and I’ve replaced the cover once. It’s due replacing again but I’ve been using it a lot of my sewing projects. The attached electrical outlet is still functional too.
loveshercoffee@reddit
I own one! I use it when I'm sewing which is usually a couple times a year.
WahooLion@reddit
I like crisp clothes and I sometimes iron. Living in a humid climate, the big wrinkles fall out naturally, but the clothes are not crisp.
pikkdogs@reddit
Own one, always have.

teacupkiller@reddit
I own one, but I do not use it unless absolutely necessary, like for iron on patches. Otherwise just give me wrinkle free clothes and the dryer.
verminiusrex@reddit
I own one but rarely need to use it. Most of my shirts with collars are "wrinkle free" and don't need pressing. There are a few times I'll have to press something for a sewing project or a cotton shirt that demands extra attention.

babygotthefever@reddit
Same. I worked a food service job in college where they were picky about wrinkles so I learned the skill and learned to love the look and feel of pressed clothes.
Now it’s handy because I tend to prefer linen and natural fibers that wrinkle easily and my in-laws are also somewhat traditional, expecting everyone to look nice for big family gatherings.
Effective_Coach7334@reddit
in the rush of my morning routine, ironing my shirt right before I leave the house is my moment of zen.
PK808370@reddit
Oh wow. I’m happy to iron, but if burn the shirt if I needed to iron my daily wear.
Effective_Coach7334@reddit
ironing is ironing, why would you be more likely to burn it then?
PK808370@reddit
Because fuck having to iron as part of my daily.
Also, generally not a fan of a lifestyle requiring ironed clothes… more and more as I’ve got older.
Effective_Coach7334@reddit
I wish your replies made sense.
PK808370@reddit
Well. The first reply of mine had a couple autocorrect typos.
My point is, while I don’t mind doing ironing, I do mind having to wear clothes that require ironing. Once in a while it’s fine, but being forced (socially, business rules, whatever) to wear something specific, especially if it needs ironing, is not my idea of a good life.
Effective_Coach7334@reddit
That's all well and good, but it didn't answer my question you responded too, so it still makes no sense. But ok, it's not important.
PK808370@reddit
The burning is by choice: If I was forced to iron clothes daily, I’d burn them in protest.
RaspberryJam56@reddit
I only own one because I sew. But as I have started wearing more vintage and vintage-inspired clothes, I find that i actually do have to use it for them. I resent it every time though haha.
Karamist623@reddit

jessipowers@reddit
I do own an iron. I’ve never not owned an iron because I sew and quilt. I use it on any clothing that’s wrinkled and that I want to be not wrinkled. Most often it’s for dress pants and button up shirts. My sons both love getting fancy with a little button up every so often so I iron those for them like once a month when they’re in the mood to wear one.
feliniaCR@reddit
I think I still own an iron. But I haven’t used it for at least 7 years. And I haven’t no interest in ever using it again.
Serious-Mongoose-387@reddit
i have one but use it pretty infrequently. my mom was always ironing when i was a kid and taught me how to do it for when i had to dress nice.
my wife never learned how to iron and never does it. when she has something that needs to be ironed, i have to do it. luckily that’s even less frequently than my own needs.
erilaz7@reddit
I own an iron. I haven't used it in 40 years.
Outrageous_Garden586@reddit
It was a common thing growing up but it’s much rarer now since dress in offices has become far less formal in many workplaces.
Oldachrome1107@reddit
Just as an aside-the people the OP sees in wrinkly clothes may very well have started out with neatly pressed clothing but had to sit for a while.
I used to commute into Chicago from the suburbs every day, and usually took the train (a 45 minute ride). I’d dutifully iron my clothes before work, but by the time I got off the train I looked like I’d slept in them. Same thing of if I happened to drive in, everything would be wrinkled all to hell. Eventually I just gave up, because everything would look terrible by the time I actually made it to the office anyway.
TLDR: clothes that need ironing rarely actually look good after you’ve worn them for a couple hours
SassyGirl0202@reddit
Yes, I own an iron and a steamer.
baconstreet@reddit
Own one? Yes. Use it? Once or twice a year.
Less of an issue in the states, because most people use clothes dryers -- you take the clothes out immediately when done and fold/hang them.
For dress shirts, I get them dry cleaned and pressed.
pippintook24@reddit
I have one. I use it rarely, but I do use it.

I use an iron in my workshop to heat/set wood banding (pre glued). My wife doesn't even know I have it. She never even asked about it in years.
witchy12@reddit
No. Using a handheld steamer is so much faster.
cjbanning@reddit
One of the reasons I use a laundry service is whenever I take my clothes out of the dryer and hang them up they're wrinkly but when the service delivers them on hangers they're not wrinkly.
But then no one's expecting a software programmer to dress as formally as I tend to do anyway, so it's not like a few wrinkles would be a problem anyway.
EmotionalCattle5@reddit
Own, yes. Use, very sparingly. I only bought it so I could do a sewing project that required ironing the fabric prior to cutting and sewing the material for obvious reasons. I do not iron any of my clothing.

Yes, but rarely now that most of my clothes are non wrinkle. Still use the iron for good dress shirts, on the rare occasion when I need to wear one.

I bought an iron 30 years ago when I moved out and use it to this day. Shirts and pants look better when they are ironed.

I iron all the time but mostly for sewing. I will occasionally iron a linen garment to wear or a dress shirt for my husband.
animepuppyluvr@reddit
I use it for really fancy clothes. I don't care about using it on my regular clothes. If I cared about my regular clothes, I'd soak it and put it in the dryer for a round and then hang/use it immediately. Pulling out the iron is a hassle and its in the way while it cools down. I'm too lazy lmao

penguinwasteland1414@reddit
Yes. I iron everything, even my pj's.
Ok-Concert-6475@reddit
Why iron your pj's?
penguinwasteland1414@reddit
Valid question. I love the way new pj's fit. When it comes to my spring summer pj's, I wear cotton and linen which can get really wrinkly in the dryer.
slackador@reddit
I have one probably, but I've literally never used it.
We do have a hand-held steamer though, which does more or less the same thing I need it for (wrinkles, not creases).
GreenBeanTM@reddit
Own one yes, it’s used pretty rarely, but also no one in my family works in an office so we own far less clothes that need to be ironed.
Physical-Incident553@reddit
Nope. Don’t have any clothes that require it. I’m female and don’t wear button front shirts. Even a lot of male friends have their dress shirts done at the cleaners so they don’t need to do any ironing.

I don t mind ironing. Grilled into us to go out put together and neat
SubieGal9@reddit
I haven't used our iron in over a decade, but my husband will sometimes iron his scrubs or dress pants.
I really should get a steamer because Downey wrinkle release doesn't get stubborn wrinkles out.
TPBlvr420@reddit
I’ve owned one for my entire life but have used it maybe twice in the past ten years.
ActuaLogic@reddit
Own? Yes. Use? Infrequently.
xnatlywouldx@reddit
Yeah. I live in a hot climate and wear a lot of linen in summer. I iron some linen items I wear to work about once a week on my time off.
reblynn2012@reddit
Yes. And it’s rarely used but yes.
Guardian-Boy@reddit
I'm in the military, I use it for my blues.
ljculver64@reddit
Not anymore. I use a steamer.
Impulse2915@reddit
A long time ago, I switched to a clothing steamer and never went back.
cb630@reddit
Yes, I own an iron. I use cloth napkins, and I iron those and the occasional shirts and other clothing. I also use them on my husband‘s handkerchiefs. They fit better in his pocket when they’re very flat.
DMCinDet@reddit
Steamer.
gman2391@reddit
I'm in my mid 30s and have never owned and iron. Clothing gets steamed at most. Ain't nobody got time for that
IntelligentValue276@reddit
I have one. I do not use it. If the wri kles wont come out by spri kling some.watwr on and yhrowing in the dryer then i just aint wearing it. Nobody has time for that bs.

Yes and yes
Stitch0195@reddit
Yes and yes. I use it on a weekly basis for dress clothes and/or quilting.

Own and use one for cotton shirts and khaki pants. Also for table cloths, napkins and handkerchiefs. I guess I’m a trad-husband. lol
Sans_Seriphim@reddit
I am pretty sure we still have our iron. Somewhere. Not that I cared even before work from home.
Gold_Telephone_7192@reddit

VaguelyFamiliarVoice@reddit
I have some really nice shirts from Charles Terwitt that are labeled “iron free” which is true, for the most part. But there are quite a few that aren’t and need an iron touch-up, if the dry clean starchiness gets bent.
juanzy@reddit
Brooks Brothers no iron shirts defy physics. Trywhitt is good, but BB is on another level
VaguelyFamiliarVoice@reddit
I will have to try them! Thanks!
juanzy@reddit
Used them as years for work shirts when I was in a couple of button-down level offices. They also can take being washed and machine dried for years, which I find is a tradeoff in some brands. Just retired some after about 8 years.
Ol_Man_J@reddit
I’ve given up on solid colors for work shirts (I travel a lot for work) because a darker pattern will hide a lot of wrinkles and even the coffee drops.
Vegetable-Star-5833@reddit
Own, yes. Use, no.
whatevendoidoyall@reddit
Yes. I don't like wrinkled clothes. Lately though I've just been spritzing my clothes with water and throwing them in the dryer for a bit to get the wrinkles out.
Ambitious-Elk5705@reddit
Own one, yes. I refused to iron my husband's shirts or pants, so if he wanted them ironed he had to do it. Which he did for a while but now he buys non wrinkle or throws things into the dryer again. The most my iron gets used for now is the rare sewing project.
Docautrisim2@reddit
I have one and use it semi regularly.
Accomplished_Mix7827@reddit
I have one, but I rarely use it
ScrimshawPie@reddit
Yea, my mom's voice lives in my head if i leave the house too wrinkly. But I also don't own a ton of shirts with that kind of fabric. When i do iron, once a quarter? I usually pull it out bc i like crisp pillowcases, and will begrudgingly iron the shirts too.
ushouldbe_working@reddit
I still own one. I used to use it for uniforms. Now I use it for iron-on wood edging.
Aztroa@reddit

phydaux4242@reddit
I honestly don’t know if I went looking for an iron in my house if I would find one.

mburucuja@reddit
I iron a few times a year max when I leave nice clothes in the dryer too long and they get wrinkly.
shadowmib@reddit
Yes, I do. Although a lot of clothes I own don't need ironing.
Responsible_Side8131@reddit
I iron every day, but I can’t tell you when I last ironed an article of clothing! I make quilts, I iron my quilting projects after every seam I sew. But clothes? Never.
MaddyKet@reddit
I am pretty sure there is an iron in the house. But has it been used in like a decade? No
gadget850@reddit
I have an iron and a press that I use on occasion.
Ok_Helicopter2305@reddit
I have a steamer/ iron combo. It works wonders
justonemom14@reddit
Yes. It was bought in 1996, and it still works, even though it broke a little one time and I used JB Weld on it. My husband has one of those jobs where they still want employees in person, dress shirt and tie. Dry cleaning is over $3 a shirt (last time I checked...probably even more now) and that's just too much for our budget. I also have had occasion to iron some formal wear for funerals and such.
Zillajami-Fnaffan2@reddit
We own one, but dont use it
jessper17@reddit
We have an iron. I don’t use it as I purposely don’t buy clothes that require ironing. I think we got one for a craft project otherwise we wouldn’t have one.
androidbear04@reddit
Yes and only when I need to. I can get an ironed looking finish on a lot of clothes by scraping them with water, smoothing or stretching out the wrinkles, and leaving to hang dry. My linen looks far better when I do this than when I iron it.
I always use it when sewing, though.
yurinator71@reddit
I own two. Only ever used one. It is from the 1920s and I use it to melt wax onto my skis.
ShortRasp@reddit
I iron my clothes every time they're wrinkly.
imzadi111@reddit
I just ironed clothes and pillowcases a few days ago.
babyidahopotato@reddit
Yes, I have an iron and I used it a few times a year since I WFH now but when I worked in an office I used it a few times a week to press my pants and my collared shirts.
dobbydisneyfan@reddit
No, I don’t own one but I would use my mother’s if needed.
chile-pica@reddit
I pretty much only use a steamer.
East_Vivian@reddit
Yes I have one. I don’t have many clothes that require ironing though. I use it mostly for cloth napkins. We use cloth napkins at home to be less wasteful, and some of the napkins need to be ironed. I also have a set of linen pillowcases that need to be ironed. But still it’s not something I do very often, maybe a couple times a month and it doesn’t take long.
Oh, I do sew occasionally and I use it when I’m sewing to press hems and flatten seams and such.
FancyPickle37@reddit
I’ve never owned an iron or had a need for one. Most of my clothes aren’t the type that wrinkle, and if they do I just pop them in the dryer.
russki516@reddit
Nope
FataMorganaForReal@reddit

Having to drag out the steamer for the odd one-off sweater or dress just makes me irritated.
xxxjessicann00xxx@reddit

AlarmedWillow4515@reddit
No. I buy non-wrinkle clothes when possible and I use Downy Wrinkle Relaxer spray when needed
wolfysworld@reddit
My ex got the iron in the divorce.
SpeakerCareless@reddit
I have one but use it way more for sewing than pressing clothes. Mainly I avoid buying clothes that require ironing and my husband takes his work shirts to the cleaners who starch and press them.
silliestboots@reddit
Own, yes. Use, extremely rarely.
kbmoregirl@reddit
I have a steamer. It's a lot easier to use and less likely to accidentally mess up my clothes.

PlanMagnet38@reddit
I own one. It’s for quilting and other crafts.
handcraftedcandy@reddit
I do once in a while, if I don't get my clothes out of the dryer right away to fold them before they get wrinkly. I'll use it if I need a fresh pressed outfit before a formal event too. I don't use it very regularly.
AlarmingSlothHerder@reddit
Yeah, I have a bunch of linen shirts. Those guys wrinkle like a mofo when you wash them. I have a special linen wash for the washer for them and a special light starch linen spray for the iron. It's a whole thing.
spring13@reddit
I own an iron and a small handheld steamer. My husband uses the steamer somewhat regularly (he wears button down shorts pretty much every day). We're careful with laundry to avoid ironing as much as possible but I do feel like it's important to have and know how to use.

Pitiable-Crescendo@reddit
I do own one, though it hasn't worked in years
AirlineSevere7456@reddit
I have an iron and will iron a shirt to go out in. But I only iron when I need to. and usually one item
OneNerdyLesbian@reddit
I'm pretty sure we still own one, but it's been so long since I used it that I'd have to go into the laundry room and confirm it's still there.
My first job after college was pretty strict with their dress code, so I did actually iron my clothes while I worked there. These days, it's not as much of a worry and I also prioritize buying clothes that don't wrinkle as easily.
Kingsolomanhere@reddit
Yes, my wife has a permanent ironing board set up in the basement near her sewing machine. It's her hobby to repair our clothes and relatives clothes; it reminds her of making clothes with her mom when she was young growing up on the farm
kieka408@reddit
I have one and use it on occasion if something needs it. I do want a steamer though. Just haven’t been motivated enough to get it yet.
eeff484@reddit
I just started ironing my clothes after taking a break for 20 years and wow it’s makes such a difference. Even if it’s jeans and tshirt I feel so much better
PlanningMyEscape@reddit
I own and use my iron frequently. Also have a steamer. The problem is that people don't really know how to use or care for their clothing anymore. You're lucky to find folks who separate their whites and darks when doing laundry. Clothes have become cheap and disposable so if something is ruined in the wash, you can just replace it.
I've been trying more to buy better clothes that'll hold up longer. Sometimes, that's finding vintage or newer natural fibers. Then I take good care of them. I don't wash every item after just one wear, hang them right back up in the closet, look at the care tags to make sure I'm washing them correctly, pretreat stains, ironing or steaming out wrinkles, etc.
The goal is for my Clothes to last a long time and look good at the same time.
davidm2232@reddit
I don't have a use for one. I take my clothes out of the dryer while still hot and fold/hang them. No wrinkles
Agreeable_Skill_1599@reddit
Yes, I own 1. I think I've used it maybe 3 times in the last 8 years. It comes in handy to make a crease when I have to sew a hem or something similar.
Financial_Test_6391@reddit
Yes - I don't care for wrinkle free clothes. The treatment they give them is noticeable to me and gives them a sheen that I don't like. I've also found that they wear faster at creases, such as around the collar, so I only buy 100% cotton "must iron" items.
Efficient-Panic3506@reddit
I technically own one… but I couldn’t tell you where it is right now 😅
I switched to a steamer a few years ago and never looked back. It’s just faster and way less effort, especially for everyday clothes. If something’s really wrinkled I’ll either steam it or just toss it in the dryer for 10 minutes and call it a day.
I feel like irons are now mostly for very specific situations—like crisp dress shirts, suits, or if you’re sewing. Otherwise “good enough” has kind of won lol.
AndyTheEngr@reddit
I have one. I think I used it once this year. Maybe a couple of times last year. Most of my clothes look okay if hung up while still hot from the dryer.
jafnharri@reddit
Yes own and yes use, but not often. Most of my clothes don't need an iron. But I have a few pieces of linen that do.

justlkin@reddit
Same. I have a steamer now that I prefer to use on the rare occasions when I do need to get wrinkles out of clothing. But I tend to buy clothing that doesn't get wrinkles if it's hung up properly right out of the dryer.
Burninator85@reddit

I think I just saw ours out in the garage. Apparently it never made it into the house after the move 5 years ago.
schonleben@reddit
That's me as well. I definitely own one, but I moved around 2 years ago and... I think it's still in a box somewhere. Couldn't tell you where.
I typically just hang whatever it is up in the bathroom while I take a hot, steamy shower.
steampunkpiratesboat@reddit
Yes I used to own 2 but one fell of the shelf cracked me over the head and exploded on the floor
I make my own clothes and quilt so I use it quite regularly
Annhl8rX@reddit
I think we have one somewhere, but ai’m not entirely sure. I’m not going to wear anything on a day-to-day basis that requires ironing. If I can’t just take it out of the dryer and wear it, I don’t want it.
I do have to wear suits a few times a year for work. That’s infrequent enough, though, that I just take all that stuff for dry cleaning.
The only times I’ve used an iron in the last 10 years or so were in hotel rooms when a dress shirt got wrinkled during travel.
Knox_the_Boxer@reddit
No. I use a fabric steamer if I need wrinkles out. I have a heat press for crafting.
OriginalCause@reddit
Yes, its almost 35 years old and still stinks of Niagara spray starch and Brasso from when I had to iron my JR/ROTC uniform in highschool and college.
...that was also one the last times I ironed anything. The wife needed an iron a few years back and I found mine packed away, opened up the box and was assaulted by scent memory.
IP_Janet_GalaxyGirl@reddit

I own an iron. I hate ironing, so I don’t iron my clothes. I’m insane about taking my laundry out and putting it away promptly to avoid wrinkles. I have a system. I also have the steam setting on the dryer if the system is broken.
I use my iron to iron fabric when I’m sewing. It’s the only time I use it really. I don’t even have a full size ironing board, just a lap board that I made specifically for ironing fabric pieces while I’m in bed 😂
Unhappy-Fox1017@reddit
We do not own an iron. We have two different styles of steamers though. I remember my mom ironing our clothes as kids and when I was in the military I had to iron my uniforms all the time. Not sure what or when that changed, but we’ve been using a steamer for years now.

I have an iron but I really only use it for craft stuff--ironing seams when I'm sewing, iron-on patches, etc. I occasionally iron costumes that can't go in the dryer. I don't buy any regular clothing that would need ironing because I don't have the time or energy for that.

I own one. I know how to use it. Since Covid and the Blessed Advent of Work-From-Home, I rarely use it. Praise be.
Honestly I'm more likely to toss a garment into the dryer with a damp washcloth to steam things than use an iron these days, partly bc I don't have a proper ironing board that's freestanding. I keep meaning to get a travel steamer but there are always more important things that have come first.

phouchg0@reddit
I bought an iron when I got divorced 17 years ago. I tried ironing a couple of times, found that not only am terrible at it, I had had no interest in getting any better. I started taking my shirts to the cleaners where they are laundered, pressed, hung up and wrapped in plastic. You drop em off, you pick em up, its the only way to live. I have not touched that iron in ages and I am not exactly sure where it is at the moment
OkPerformance2221@reddit
I iron routinely.
XandyDory@reddit
2, a regular and a crafting. I rarely use the regular one since most of my clothes rarely wrinkle. It's for the few that actually do that I rarely wear.
Now the crafting one, it gets used a lot.

CampariandFernet@reddit
Yep, I bought a really nice one that basically makes it a one and done - smooths the fabric in the first try, and I don’t have to repeat sections. Now, I iron everything versus before when I’d just go with wrinkles because it took more effort.
kmckenzie256@reddit
I have an iron, but I probably haven’t used it in at least 15 years. If I need to get wrinkles out of something, I just throw it in the dryer for a few minutes.

Mac-Elvie@reddit
I use my iron maybe 4 or 5 times a year, when I am going to an event or a work meeting or on a date that requires some dressiness but not a full formal suit. If I have to wear a suit I get it dry cleaned and pressed (and that’s like once or twice a year) otherwise it’s just wash and wear and I don’t care if I’m a bit wrinkled.
Mac-Elvie@reddit
I should add that I’m in my 50s so I’m past the point where I need to impress people with a professional wardrobe. And I’m still one of the more formal people in my office. Some of the Wayward Youth in my company roll in wearing gym clothes or pajamas.

thatguywithatoaster@reddit

Pbferg@reddit
I have a steamer and an iron. I use the steamer more, but some things get so wrinkled that I just can’t get them out with anything other than an iron. Also, I mainly work from home but occasionally need to dress professionally for work and I like my shirts to be very pressed and smooth, and the iron is much better for that. Honestly it really doesn’t take much longer to iron a shirt than it does to steam it and you get a better result.
issiautng@reddit
Yes, absolutely. I mostly use it for pressing seams when quilting. I also have a steamer. I'll use either of those on actual clothes maybe once a year.
bh0@reddit
Yes but rarely use it. Pretty much just for the rare dress shirt.
lonelygayPhD@reddit
Yes! I have a Westinghouse from the 1960s that I love (heavy, shiny steel), and I use my grandmother's wooden ironing board from the 1940s.
Heeler_Haven@reddit
Yes, but it's mostly used as part of my sewing process. Nobody in the house has an office job or uniform where we need to be smartly turned out any more, so we rarely need to press anything for appearance sake.
duke_igthorns_bulge@reddit
Yes and yes. Only when it is visibly wrinkled though. Wearing slacks and a shirt and tie with wrinkles would make me feel awkward all day.
ITrCool@reddit
Yeah but I hardly have reasons to use it as I do t dress up in finer clothing that much. I work from home so casual clothing is the norm for me, and if I ever do go to church or an event where nicer dress is appropriate, most of my clothing is hung up, not folded in a dresser drawer so I hardly need to iron anything.
StatementEcstatic751@reddit

There is a single shirt that just will not come out unwrinkled. Have tried putting in through the wrinkle out cycle even when fresh from the warm dryer and steaming it which takes forever due to the way this thing wrinkles.
My choices, iron or dry cleaning.
It is a shirt that looks really good on my husband, so we deal with the old fashioned ironing.

Ok_Dog_748@reddit
Yes and I use it all the time. But I also use it for sewing and quilting so double purpose.
MotorTeacher1512@reddit
Yes, I own an iron and a steamer. And wrinkly clothes make me wonder if I’m alone in the ironing club 😂
jwpete27@reddit
I have two, and a steamer. I sew though...
notthelettuce@reddit
I have both an iron and a steamer. 9/10 I am using my hair straightener to flatten collars and hems because I am running late for work.
QuietObserver75@reddit
I don't own one. Any shirts that need to be ironed I bring to the cleaners to be laundered and pressed.
captainstormy@reddit
I'm 42, I don't currently or have ever owned an iron. Like the OP said, most fabrics don't need it. If you hang or fold up stuff fairly quickly when they are done in the dryer it's fine. If it is a little wrinkled just put it back in the dryer with a wet rag for like 5 minutes.
My suit is the only thing I own that needs ironed and I dry clean it and have it ironed every time I wear it (which is pretty much just weddings and funerals.
Sledgehammer925@reddit
I have one but only use it to iron my curtains as they come out of the washer.
AdinaBennu@reddit
I Have an iron and an ironing board, but the only time and reason I do have them is for sewing. Honestly if my clothes wrinkle I spray with a bit of water or take out of the dryer early and hang them up and give a few tugs on the material to smooth it out and let finish air drying. Give your pants a tug buddy.
TotallyTilly@reddit
Yes and yes.
Ok_Professional_4499@reddit
I have an iron, I do not use it.
I used to iron everyday when in high school 🤣
Traditional_Trust418@reddit
No and no
Wonderful_Shower_793@reddit
I have one in a closet. I almost never use it.
vaspost@reddit
I have several mens shirts that always need ironing. I have a steamer but it doesn't seem to do as well.
I should probably just get rid of those shirts and get higher quality ones but I also find ironing oddly satisfying.
blanknullvoidzero@reddit
I'm 35 and I have never ironed or steamed a single piece of clothing (or had someone else do it for me).
Kittalia@reddit
I use mine mostly for sewing. Occasionally I'll quickly run it over a hem or something though.
Foxy_locksy1704@reddit
I have one and there are certain clothing items I use it on, but it’s my professional clothing like slacks with a crease and blazers that need to look perfect or collared shirts that wrinkle easily.
ElectricMayhem06@reddit
I own one. I have used it probably 4 times, mostly for heat pressing patches/Cricut designs.
I've definitely used irons in hotels before a wedding or a business meeting much more often.
neonpineapples@reddit
Yes. I use it once every few months.
Soundwave-1976@reddit
I own one, maybe use it once a year at the holidays for the fancy party, other than that I am a jeans an T kind of guy.
Elrohwen@reddit
Own one. My husband occasionally irons the collars on his work shirts if they go wonky in the wash. I iron my cross stitch and embroidery projects. That’s pretty much it.
belacanehh@reddit
I have one from the 80s..
It is only uses for melty bead art.
SpeechMuted@reddit
I have both. Honestly, my iron spends most of its time hanging on the back of a door, along with the ironing board. I think you have 3 factors: the invention of handheld steamers, wrinkle-free fabrics, and a general loosening of expectations of business dress.
OrneTTeSax@reddit
Yes, use it frequently. I’m not super OCD or anything, but I can’t stand wrinkles. I don’t even think other people’s clothes look that bad with mild wrinkles, but drives me nuts if I have just one bad crease.
CaptainAwesome06@reddit
Yes and yes.
However, I WFH now so I use it a lot less often. My dryer has a wrinkle-free setting so I'll use that first. For very wrinkled clothes I use a steamer, which works great. I probably use my iron for even tougher wrinkles twice per year. That's for the shirts that fell off a hanger and got lost in the back of the closet.
dangleicious13@reddit
I do not have one that I am aware of.
Ok-Equivalent-5131@reddit
I own an iron. I only really use it for special occasions when I’m wearing a suit. I’ll sometimes hang stuff in the bathroom while I shower to get wrinkles out.
I don’t work in a public facing role and generally wear t shirts though. So i definitely don’t iron clothes for work.
Plato198_9@reddit
I own and have used an Iron, but more often use a dryer trick
ChainWise6768@reddit
I have an iron but usually use a steamer
EvaisAchu@reddit
I have a travel one that is still in the original packaging from when I bought it 5 years ago.
I just use my steamer for most things.
Exploringtogether23@reddit
Own one. Use once a year if that.
fuzzyizmit@reddit
Own, yes. Use, yes... but only on sewing and quilting projects. After that, I don't have time nor do I care enough about my clothing 'presentation' to press that shit.
novagirl0972@reddit
Yes but I use it for crafting more than clothing presentation
Obtuse-Angel@reddit
I have one somewhere. I don’t use it. I have a small, handheld steamer I use when needed.
mamaMoonlight21@reddit
No
ChickenNugs4Hugs@reddit
I’ve never owned one or even seen one in person.
Difficult_Ladder369@reddit
Yes and no
FlippingPossum@reddit
Yes. I use it mainly for quilting. I work in a church office and mainly dress casual.
Asiawashere13@reddit
I live with my parents, they have iron and a steamer.
I don't use it.
Unless I need to wear a dress or something, clothes usually come out of the dryer without wrinkles unless you leave them sitting there for days
I don't care about wrinkles
poisonedkiwi@reddit
We don't have an iron, but we have one of those fold-down ironing tables that was built into our wall. It's actually pretty nifty, we do plan on buying an iron in the future. We're a blue collar family so we don't really have clothes that need to be ironed on a regular basis.
BelleMakaiHawaii@reddit
No
AilanthusHydra@reddit
I own one. I rarely use it. I should use it, however.
I don't have an ironing board and this does tend to make it more challenging.
reverievt@reddit
I only use it when I’m sewing something, like hemming some pants.
alvysinger0412@reddit
I have never ironed or steamed my clothes. If they're nice enough I hang them up and that seems fine.
El_Culero_Magnifico@reddit
Yes, but it does not get a lot of use.
affectionateanarchy8@reddit
Yes I have one of those heavy ones with the fat metal base because no other iron feels real to me
Stickyfynger@reddit
Clothes iron, ironing board a d a clothes steamer.
Tight_Steak_232@reddit
Yes, and rarely, but yes.
alwaysboopthesnoot@reddit
I have a handheld steamer and an iron but rarely use either one.
TsundereLoliDragon@reddit
Yes, and sometimes. But I wear a t-shirt 99% of the time so it's mostly not needed.
Awdayshus@reddit
I don't use one. I'm not sure whether I own one or not. My wife and I have moved 4 times in 18 years, and I know the iron has been something we considered not bringing in at least one of those moves. But I genuinely don't remember if we kept it or not.
dumbsugarplumb@reddit
I own one that I mostly use for crafting (like perler beads or cricut stuff) but I’ve used it on clothes a couple times in the like 9 years I’ve owned it. For the most part if I have something wrinkled I just throw it in the dryer for like 10 minutes
plutoniumwhisky@reddit
Yes I do, and I hate my iron. The water reservoir is designed poorly so that if I move the iron, water splashes out.
OkTransportation6580@reddit
No? Maybe? I feel like I have one but idk where it is.
jigokubi@reddit
I own one but use it only rarely.
I'm planning on making some clothes for around the house, so I'll definitely use it for that.
SalishSeaSweetie@reddit
I have an iron that I almost never use. And I have a steamer I use occasionally.
WildlifePolicyChick@reddit
I do have an iron, and I very rarely need to use it.
IHaveBoxerDogs@reddit
We own one, but I've never looked back once I bought a steamer.
wiarumas@reddit
I own one and used to use it all the time, back when I went into an office with business formal dress code.
I am full time remote now and haven't used it since.
Free_Divide195@reddit
Yes, but I use the steamer far more often. It's far less likely to damage my clothes if I'm in a rush, and takes a few seconds to set up versus getting out the board and setting up the tank, etc.
ProfessionalCat7640@reddit
Yep, sure do.
Duplica123@reddit
I use an iron to put my kid's girl scout badges on. For anything else I use the wrinkle release spray starch.
manhattanabe@reddit
Yes. I use it when I wash my own shirts.
ReginaPhalange219@reddit
Yes and yes, but not for clothes. We use it more for arts and craft projects. Can't remember the last time I ironed a shirt.
FivebyFive@reddit
I own one, but do everything in my power to avoid clothes that require ironing.
One-Hand-Rending@reddit
I iron clothing all the time. Especially mens shirts.

I have one and I use it, but pretty sure I'm never ironed clothes with it. Mostly I use it to iron out my backdrops I use when taking product photos for Etsy.
Fantastic-Pop-9122@reddit
Yes and i use it daily.
errorsniper@reddit
I have an Ironman in runecape
Astronaut6735@reddit
I own an iron and ironing board. I used it quite a bit when I was younger, when I wore slacks and dress shirts to work. I've only used it a couple of times in the past 10 years.
fatapolloissexy@reddit
I have two irons and two ironing board.
One set for clothes. One set is with my sewing machine. Because sewing is like 60% ironing.
haightor@reddit
Yes but I only use it for special occasions.
WhichWitch9402@reddit
I have two irons, but I almost never use it to iron clothes. I sew and do machine embroidery and craft. I need iron for that - setting seams, disinter sing, heat transfer vinyl.
heyItsDubbleA@reddit
Have one, use it seldom. Mostly date nights when I need a button down
SuperPomegranate7933@reddit
Yes & no. It's a basic thing my husband insists we need & not once in the 11 years we've lived together has either one of us even opened the box.
ConsiderationFluid48@reddit
yes, and i use it multiple times a week
WithASackOfAlmonds@reddit
that's what the dryer is for
GetOffMyLawn1729@reddit
Yes, but I use it very rarely, mainly on linen shirts. My wife uses it a little more frequently.
Usual-Ad6290@reddit
Yes I iron my clothes every work day.
distrucktocon@reddit
Yes. And rarely. Tumble dry setting on the dryer knocks the wrinkles outta most things.
Ineffable7980x@reddit
Yes, I have an iron and an ironing board. I don't use it that frequently, but I do use it on occaision
Self-Comprehensive@reddit
No if my clothes are wrinkled I just toss them in the dryer for half an hour.
Justmakethemoney@reddit
I own one. Last time I used it was to press a cross stitch before framing.
I can't remember the last time I ironed my clothes.
Flimsy_Equal8841@reddit
I own one. I know how to use it. I just don't remember where I put it.
Special-Reindeer-178@reddit
Nope.
ImGoingToSayOneThing@reddit
Iron and steamer.
Irritable_Curmudgeon@reddit
Of course. And a garment steamer (which I honestly use more frequently)
No excuse to go to work (or school) a wrinkly mess
Dr_Watson349@reddit
I got an excuse.
I don’t want to iron or steam my clothes.
rainy-brain@reddit
I have an iron but I don't use it often. I mainly use it when I'm sewing something and need to make sure the fabric is flat. Many newer fabrics will practically melt or discolor if ironed so I think it has lost some usefulness? Steamers seem a little more versatile.
rawbface@reddit
Yes, I own one. I brought it with me when I moved into my house 6 years ago.
I have not used it once in those 6 years. There's really nothing that needs ironing. I have used a hotel iron a few times, but maybe I'm just bad at folding clothes.
PossumJenkinsSoles@reddit
Own neither an iron nor a steamer. At this point my wardrobe is made up of mostly thrifted pieces at the end of their lives anyway or t shirts. I think being taken care properly would send them into some sort of shock.
MountainTomato9292@reddit
My husband has and uses one. I haven’t ironed anything in years, probably decades. I just throw it in the dryer with a wet hand towel and steam it that way. I do have an actual steamer for dresses, but I wear them so rarely that that’s more of a special occasion thing.
PBRStreetgang1979@reddit
Yes. My wardrobe is mostly natural fibers so a steam iron (and a portable steamer for travel) is essential.
Perdendosi@reddit
Own? Yes.
Use? Rarely
Most fabrics are noniron.
I send my dress shirts out for shirt laundry. (Otherwise id have to iron a lot.)
machagogo@reddit
Yes. And a steamer, Prefer that when needed.
Ill_Pressure3893@reddit
I own and use an iron.
blondie956@reddit
Yes. Ironing is my zen.
SinisterSnoot@reddit
Yes
G00dSh0tJans0n@reddit
I did, but didn't use it for a couple years and ended up getting rid of it. I have to wear a suit for work for a couple days in a row each month so I just have my suit and some dress shirts dry cleaned and pressed. For regular work week stuff I just wear those wrinkle free khakis and dress shirts - Izod or Dockers or whatever kind.
Patrizio_Argento@reddit
Yes have one, use it occasionally
Background-Head-5541@reddit
I have many tools that are made if iron but I don't use them on my clothes. I just hang dry my shirts to keep the wrinkle free.
snmnky9490@reddit
I own one but have no idea where. I think every time I've used an iron in the past decade has been at a hotel
Warm_Objective4162@reddit
Yes - I’m a man and have to iron my dress shirts every morning.
My wife though only has a handful of things that need to be ironed, not ironically mostly dress shirts.
SusanLFlores@reddit
Yes. I see, so I need an iron.
vanchica@reddit
No, and I don't buy cotton or linen shirts or blouses, or dresses, anymore
cntodd@reddit
Yes, I use it often.
zylpher@reddit
I use it about every 3 or 4 years when I have to dress in more than jeans and a T-shirt.
usefulchickadee@reddit
Yes
o93mink@reddit
Yes and yes, though I’m more likely to just send dress shirts and slacks to the dry cleaners and let them deal with it
