I still have a soft spot for the MP5SD.

Blood diamond/Blackhawk down Gordon carbines are stunning looks exactly like something a black ops mercenary unit would run

AKMSU, some guy probably built it in a shed in the Khaybar Pass but it’s still neat.

I see your AKMSU, and I raise you my choice, the OTs-12.

Yes, the Ots-12 is a cool gun. Isn’t it basically a AKS-74U rechambered in 9x39?

Ive never heard of that till now and I’m questioning why i like it so much

The AKMSU, or in Russian Автомат Калашникова Mодернизированный Складной Укороченный (pronounced Avtomat Kalashnikova Modernizirovanny Skladnoy Ukorochenniy). Which means Shortened Modernized Kalashnikov Automatic Rifle with Folding Stock is derived from the AKM, it was originally described as a prototype of Soviet origin that presumed it was built in either 1959 or 1975 (the specific date is actually unknown). It is a gas operated, rotating bolt carbine that uses 30-round box magazines from the AKM, I assume it can also use 40-RPK box magazines or any AKM compatible magazine. It has a Norinco Type 56-1 receiver, a 1977 AKM trunnion, a custom muzzle brake that is required for the carbine to function and an expansion chamber for the gun to properly cycle. The muzzle brake also has a bunch of grooves machined into it for better heat dispersion and the handguard is also custom. It was first put into the British Ministry of Defense Pattern Room in June 1986, then in September 2005 the Pattern Room closed and the whole collection of stuff there went to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, England. Where the AKMSU has been ever since. Really cool history in my opinion.

One thing I love about the AKMSU is its mystique, as a gun that it took people a bit to figure out, and theories flew. Definitely a cool little carbine.

WG-TX@reddit

You forget the panic and chaos lol. People freaked calling it a Russian prototype and stuff. Rather funny.

Yeah really interesting stuff how it floated through different publications with a number of theories tacked on. As an AK lover Khyber stuff in general is just whacky cool to me.

Negative-Focus-1273@reddit

If .30 carbine weren't like $1.25/round I would be using my carbine as my home defense rifle again. I've got a light on it and it's so handy and portable. 30 carbine is better than the 5.45 in my AK74 in terms of mitigating risk of over penetration, and the carbine doesn't have the "scary black gun" trope to it either. Really a wonderful firearm. Gorgeous wood, nice sights, ability to mount a bayonet, 18 inch barrel in a small package, idk what else you could ask for

Peak aesthetic for SMG? ZK-383 9mm and Beretta M38 and Erma Vollmer MP and MP-34 (ö) and SIG MKMO and Husqvarna m/37-39 Suomi and UD 42 9mm are the nicest looking SMGs ever built. My tastes run a bit diesel-punk, so I like things like the Owen, PPS-43, and the CZ 247...

What I love about the MAT49 is it seemed to push the limits at the time to make an SMG as smol and compact as possible. It really does have a cool, minimalist look, and I think the sights are cool as hell.

*Vz 61 intensifies*
View on Reddit #8381056

GreenMan165@reddit

Yeah for 49 as far as a purpose built SMG goes that is, kind of ignoring the M712 for example as well, machine pistols going forward would definitely push that boundary even further. The Skorpion is a great example of how small one can go
View on Reddit #8392564

Sachiel05@reddit

I think that it is the smallest we can get that is still somewhat practical, also .32 helps a lot
View on Reddit #8392655

GreenMan165@reddit

Agreed, when you're talking a little SMG/Machine Pistol with its own little fold out stock is it pretty small. .32 definitely helps in that equation for sure
View on Reddit #8392744

Sachiel05@reddit

Yeah, I mean Pistols that are somewhat carabinized are a thing, but I believe that the Vz is a far superior design that what the P320 with a stock and the other pistol carbine I can't remember do, or even the soviet Stetchin, perhaps the PP-2000 is as practical but iirc the vz is still smaller

I wanna build one but I know literally nothing about them. Plus the cant of the Glock ones look off
View on Reddit #8364391

Key-Lifeguard7678@reddit

For converting a standard AR-15 into one, you’ll need a 9mm upper (or at least barrel and bolt), a magazine adapter block, and a 9mm buffer. Ideally, stainless steel trigger group pins would be useful. This works with Colt 9mm SMG mags but most 9mm AR-15s that use Glock mags have a special lower. Other options for other magazines do exist, but are less common. For pistol calibers other than 9mm and .45 ACP, they will use almost exclusively Glock mags. There’s Endomags out there, though the less said about them the better. The two main options are, Colt 9mm and Glock pistol mags. The Colt-style mags (based on Uzi mags) will replicate all standard functions, will lock open on empty mags and uses standard AR-15 magazine catch, but Glock mags are cheaper and more available. What you consider more important is up to you. Most “AR-9” work on straight blowback, so you need a new, heavy buffer and spring. It’s a mixed bag of parts out there as bolts for Colt 9mm magazines may not work with Glock lowers and vice versa.

I’m going to be a little abstract and say I have a soft spot for guns like the Rhuzi, the Cobra, the Star Z-63, the PM-63C etc. which is funny because they cross the barrier between SMG and carbine a bit, I just like that slightly ugly “machine shop” look to them
