This is getting almost no attention in the US. I follow national and world news pretty closely and with all of the other world distractions, I heard nothing about what's going on in Ireland until this weekend.

I suspect most Americans have no idea how bad this is already affecting other countries. This and the news of four day work weeks and driving bans surprised me as we've only noticed gas prices and some other stuff go up a bit, but still manageable.
We are distanced from the chaos in our government is causing which is making it a lot easier for them to continue to get away with it.

4 day work week?

Honestly, i live in the UK and only feel like I've heard about them because im chronically online.

Ireland is tiny, and these protests are the "standard, healthy" way our democracy breaks. I'll start worrying if people stop protesting, because that'll mean they no longer buy into the system as it stands.

England is planning some. https://www.reddit.com/r/yorkshire/comments/1sl9r7u/fyi_regarding_some_already_planned_fuel_protests/

Convinced there’s bad online actors stirring up Ireland’s fuel protests. You’ve people blocking refineries from delivering fuel - how will that help supply or cost crisis?
Impossible_Range6953@reddit
They are protesting higher costs. Same thing happened in Pakistan, Haiti, Norway, India etc...
Professional-Art8449@reddit
So this protest is because they closed a refinery? Who's organizing the protest, the workers? A political group?
ThaOppanHaimar@reddit
One of the leaders was someone that said some nasty things about Greta
Maybe this helps. I only vaguely remember the information. Apparently the person is pretty bad from what I remember.

Its due to fuel prices. The protest seems largely grassroots, if for no other reason than incompetent leadership.
Butterscotch6310@reddit
The protests were by farmers and hauliers because of the price of diesel. In Ireland there is a 50% tax on fuel. Most of the protests were pushed by certain political groups and was not supported by most of the population.

Maybe attacking the C-130 made a bit of sense after all. Ain’t the first time either.

So I was wrong the country nearly went to hell in a hand basket as a lot of petrol stations ran out of fuel.
The police had to brake up the protests at key points with help from the army to move tractors and trucks.
We still have slow moving protests disrupting motorways.
