RustDesk appears to be down

Was banging my head against a wall and down detector confirmed it. First time I’ve seen their service go down in years.
bbmaster123@reddit
lemme vent for a sec here
NO WONDER I couldn't connect to and help my cousin 2 days ago, ffs
I was alerted to this just now when my other cousin (who is more tech savvy than the first cousin) tried to connect to his pc from his android and got the connection blocked message.
I don't mind setting up an account or my own relay FOR MYSELF but this is not a 1 step solution anymore. Now I have to tell someone to create an account? Now I need to have that person involved in the process? oh yea right like they're even going to know what an IP address even IS.
And now I can't see the discussion on github since it was deleted? https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/discussions/14796
with all due respect RustDesk team, I switched from Teamviewer to rustdesk for a free, easy and quick way to help my friends and family from whichever pc I am currently using. IMO, the security of my connection is MY prerogative, unless I just don't get it somehow. I'm not saying I'm entitled to a free service just because, however I believe I should be able to connect with a standard ID and PW as before, and if I want I can add additional security at my whim and discretion.
why, is the public server getting botted/attacked? Can we get a little more info or a statement of some kind? Was there one and I missed it?
honestly considering looking at alternatives now as I don't think I'll be able to get my server pc back up and running for a bit...possibly a month or 2 depending
if my line of thinking needs any correction, please go ahead, I am upset, but am still open to what you might have to say
Teeecom@reddit
were pretty much cooked. have to self host now
Senderanonym@reddit
Anyone else getting this today?
The connection is not allowed.
To help prevent scamming and potential botnet attacks, this public server currently requires users to log in before connecting.

Starting on 2026-04-27, the controlled device will also be required to log in, and both sides must be logged in as the same user.

RustDesk is designed as a self-hosted solution. This public server is provided for demo and testing purposes only — please do not use it for production or sensitive work.
Leading_Effective_89@reddit
yes, and it's impossible for me to reconfigure remote computer - and when I do I'm switching to Anydesk. Rustdesk gave no warnings so people could prepare, and has become unuseable.
fanatic26@reddit
The first thing I did when I built out RustDesk was spin up a VM to manage it myself. 2+ years without a hiccup
queenelizabeth_02@reddit
Hey guys can anyone help me.
I know the servers were down today, but now it shows as ready to connect. When I try to connect, I get “connection error: the connection is not allowed. Please click the link below to confirm you’re not a robot (link). If it does not work, check the following (link).”
I’ve verified successfully and it says “you can now return RustDesk client and retry your connection” but then when I go back on to connect it sends me back through the same verification loop. I’m using Safari, but I also tried with Chrome. I’ve read the discussion comments from the second link, and I do not have a VPN on either device.
I’m not THAT tech-savvy so any insights on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I’ve tried quitting the program, reset both devices too. PLEASE HELP or lmk if you’re also dealing with a similar issue so I know I’m not alone.
indochris609@reddit (OP)
Maybe try uninstalling it and installing it again on the host machine? My guess is it still glitchy from the previous issue though and time probably resolved it.

I love that this still isn't working
voron0x@reddit
I guess it's time to host myself
bbqwatermelon@reddit
I felt the heavy sigh with this one
No-Dependent2324@reddit
Are you guys on the East Coast, same issue for me, im in NYC, its been down since 8am
Snoo-96652@reddit
It' been down at least an hour here in the Bronx
No-Dependent2324@reddit
It's up
Snoo-96652@reddit
That's good. Although I literally just finished setting up a relay server so I could remote into my other boxes. I'd been meaning to since the last time there was an outage.
Beneficial_Income_16@reddit
it try to connect to the server
No-Dependent2324@reddit
Rustdesk is up
ITBadBoy@reddit
That's why I host my own relay server
Imaginary-Toe9157@reddit
Yep, I think it's like $8/mo for a digital ocean droplet with backup. Plus it's more secure!
ITBadBoy@reddit
Mine has run for... 5 years now. No outages, except for of course my own server maintenance.
The security is a bonus. no brainer for me; The added setup to provision clients is minor
yc47yc47@reddit
seems back to normal.
Hairy-Ad5594@reddit
yes me too. It's working now,
robseplex@reddit
It's down. Nearly formatted a VM thinking it was corrupted.
indochris609@reddit (OP)
I was already ripping cables out lol
robseplex@reddit
It's still down, right?
indochris609@reddit (OP)
It is for me yes.
nyichiban1@reddit
https://rustdesk.github.io/uptime/
shows up but I'm pretty sure it's down.
indochris609@reddit (OP)
Looks like they finally acknowledged it about 45 minutes ago.
TAL_047@reddit
Ironically, also a good way to find out that their own monitor doesnt work lol
SeaweedOther453@reddit
Here in Germany it seems to be back up and running and working as usually.
Far_Persimmon_4633@reddit
Any idea of how long this will be down??
Mother-Effective-816@reddit
mine also down, from South Africa
xBlackZero@reddit
Question, with Tailscale do I still depend on RustDesk network?
Practical-Knee-2488@reddit
I guess no. RustDesk can connect directly through the Tailscale IP
Leadership_Exciting@reddit
Ugh same , i wish i have Oracle or AWS account to set my own server on free tier
tequila_triceps@reddit
down for me too
any subsitute method for this
I need to a connect on the same local network
minimum_thought_8976@reddit
Just figured this out. Go to Security > Enable direct IP access. Just use that default port 21118 (you have to enter it in and apply.)
Do this for both computers I think.
Then on the receiving computer you need to get your ip address (google it). Then, instead of the ID rust gives you, enter that IP address to connect and press connect. Still need to enter a password but then you are connected.
Probably much fater this way glad I found this.
I'll look into setting this up for when I'm away from home too, I guess that is not too difficult either but I think I'll have to access router settings.
polite_alpha@reddit
on the same network you can just type in the ip adress in the rustdesk connection window.
shanshimbo@reddit
u can setup ur own relay server i think
Comfortable-Pizza382@reddit
switching to anydesk...
Tiger-Trick@reddit
The price of AnyDesk is so high that it's ridiculous for someone buying it for a home lab.
SeaweedOther453@reddit
I wouldn't switch but id still consider having a backup incase something like this happens again. Or just host my own server
ProvidedCone@reddit
What a great post. Thanks OP. Saved me a lot of clicking
Elwazeery@reddit
Yes its down for like 6h, but locally still working with the local ip
Highly_spiritual365@reddit
here i was thinking something had happened to my remote PC had to drive an hour and troubleshoot
Anyone with a way forward and how to get help
Dizzy_Promotion_4772@reddit
same here. Drove out to remote computer, lugging monitor, keyboard etc, and was going to set up Anydesk instead, but decided why not just sit there and operate the remote computer myself, on the spot. Happened on the day I could collect better data than any of the previous 2 months!
Difficult-Owl7552@reddit
Fun_Experience2344@reddit
its down for me too..
Fun_Experience2344@reddit
lol
Lights_Cam_Action99@reddit
Been pulling my hair out all morning, flushed DNS and everything, reinstalled on both devices. Crazy
VanCityLing@reddit
they even have it in their email messages going to users right now. Lord knows why they havent updated their UPTIME SITE -.-
i shouldnt have to depend on DownDetector to be able to give me the most up to date info on a software if they are already aware of the issue. wasted an hour of my time this morning. -,- Irritating.
EffortBest5737@reddit
houston, we have a downtime
Dizzy_Algae_8727@reddit
When will it come back up? It's still down...
marcu-runtime@reddit
Was trying to access important machines for work, still has an outage. Went on premise, updated everything thinking there were problems with versions, restarted everything thinking it was client side but apparently not...
Sleepnotdeading@reddit
Weirdly it seems version specific. I can connect to one machine running RustDesk version 1.4.3, but not the ones running version 1.4.5
Thin_Lawfulness8640@reddit
Down for me too (Brazil)

Same! I couldn't figure out how I was online with everything else but RD kept saying no connection and stupid brave AI kept telling me it's showing up just fine. Thankfully downdector knew better. Stupid AI in the brave browser is clueless.
