Btw I don’t know Turkish election system, but for us the key was that the opposition leader knew Orbán and how the government worked because his wife was part of the government.

Also, because our current election system focuses on districts primarily for mandates, it was important that the opposition leader traveled personally to each small village and spoke to as many people as possible. Initially he didn’t have a huge budget, so he basically had a lorry, a flatbed truck, and he would hold speeches even for a few hundred people with a speaker and microphone. And sometimes you could ask questions, even if you were a supporter of the government. He also didn’t try to separate himself from the people, but talked to them directly. Of course this was also needed because most media was government influenced, especially those rural people had access to. So yeah the key is to visit rural people personally.
