What’s your go-to “treat yourself” food?

Savoury would be a big Indian takeaway with a glass of red, sweet would be a hot chocolate fudge cake.. the ultimate comfort dessert in my opinion
Prestigious_Cycle@reddit
Mexican food. Specifically taco bell style food but made at home with better ingredients (I am from the US originally and the Taco Bells here suck. Most Mexican restaurants here also suck). Indian food is very gross to me but it's all people seem to eat here.
Pizza with red and green pepper with red onion and beef is also very nice.

special fried rice from my local with a bag of crispy spring rolls.

Savoury - Southern fried chicken (preferably from M&S), fries and loads of mayo
Sweet - Millionaire caramel shortbread
catfordbeerclub@reddit
Frozen Greg's sausage roll chips and beans. Delightful
DrZonino2022@reddit
Doesn’t it hurt your teeth?!
onmylunchbreak_@reddit
Suck on it like a meaty ice pop
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
Savoury It has to be some variant of fried chicken. My absolute favourite is if I go to a great length of making it myself. Boneless fried chicken thighs, very buttery mash potatoes and a really rich chicken gravy.
Sweet - if I make it myself it has to be a heavily caramelised piece of honey butter toast. First has it at the viral arome bakery in London however I doubled down on the honey butter crust and serve it with a spoon full of clotted cream and a nice mug of tea on the side.
This is the type of cooking that is so calorie rich and indulgent it makes eating out look like a healthy meal
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
Extra thick slice of the highest quality Japanese milk bread I can find, Demerara sugar, organic honey and salted softened butter made into a paste and spread on all sides of the toast. Baked in the oven and left to cool and harden with the clotted cream on top. Inside is fluffy outside is crunchy.
Gold-Creme-9597@reddit
God I need to make this.
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
Give it a go - it’s actually really easy - on the above example I put too much butter and honey. All you need is some thick sliced milk bread and a grease proof paper to bake it on
pastopesta@reddit
A massive bowl of pasta, with pesto, lots of cheddar, and Aunt May’s bajan hot sauce all over it. I can and do actually cook nice food all the time but this is my feral woman food
FaeWolf4@reddit
A cake slice or bun with thick frosting.
smithykate@reddit
Thai takeaway - Singapore chicken vermicelli, chicken spring rolls and sweet chili sauce 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
greenglossygalaxy@reddit
Usually, if it’s been that kind of day, my go to is dirty fries from M&S, a glass or two of Malbec and the Wagyu ribeye from Aldi (£10!).

revolut1onname@reddit
The Aldi banoffee cheesecake slices are amazing.
notspringsomnia@reddit
Sweet is the big cinammon buns from Waitrose with the icing on top, perfect guilty pleasure with a coffee!
Savour would also be a large Indian takeaway for me, or a Chinese takeaway.
Starboard_1982@reddit
When I was a hormonal teenager I used to make myself a bowl of smash and cover it in grated cheese. Obviously I then cried about being fat, and so ate more mash.
FairZucchini7814@reddit
Mr Mash (Smash is the devil), grated cheese - browned under the grill and baked beans.
madcaplaughed@reddit
sometimes when i’m home alone for dinner i have a big bowl of oven chips, covered in gravy, melted cheese and bits of bacon.
Least-Conference9547@reddit
Love chips and gravy!!!
halfdressednow@reddit
Which gravy? I feel like I’m on a never-ending hunt for one I can make at home that brings me anywhere near the levels of joy I get from a restaurant one
Amazing-Heron-105@reddit
Making a chicken gravy from scratch is lovely. Perhaps give that a go. Lots of recipes online.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
The get-ahead gravy I made before Christmas was a game changer. You roast off a whole pack of chicken wings and selected veg then simmer the whole lot down so not cheap but you get piles of delicious gravy out of it.
madcaplaughed@reddit
honestly, whatever’s in the cupboard. crappy instant gravy. most recently aldi’s “specially selected” chicken gravy.
Astronaut_Level@reddit
Mmm, I went to a place in Conwy that served roast dinner with gravy over chips. Deliciousness
ReaderMagnificat@reddit
That sounds absolutely dirty yet delicious.

YragNitram1956@reddit
This!
HoundParty3218@reddit
A local takeaway does the best lamb biryani I've ever tasted. I have it whenever I need a pick me up.
When I lived in London it would have been a ghee masala dosa or curried goat and dumplings.
Intruder313@reddit
Takeaway pizza once a week is my treat
Vast_Resolve_8354@reddit
Proper italian style pizza from the place by me. An old couple from Sicily run it and they always make a big fuss when we go - giving us free food and drinks while we wait.

Gin.
wicketybee@reddit
Depends on the meal and the context. I have different treat foods for different meals and for weekdays vs weekends. And don't get me started on snacks. I take treats very seriously clearly.
My most consistent treat lately would be a brownie from the Lidl bakery or a bag of Tesco salted popcorn.
OrganizationFun2140@reddit
Savoury: large rib eye steak with a large pile of rocket and a bottle of Malbec
Sweet: chocolate loaf cake with coffee ice cream (both homemade)
frenchois1@reddit
Tandoori Munchy box, extra cheese. Garlic sauce instead of kebab sauce. Don't bother with the salad big man.
ClockAccomplished381@reddit
Depends how we define treat yourself.
For comfort food it was historically a sausage roll and a bar of chocolate, when I was at uni this was known as my "usual" order from the corner shop.
If you mean stuff I wouldn't normally have or deem too expensive, I'd say Duck washed down with Pinot Noir. Sadly my two favourite meats, Duck and Lamb have both got expensive in recent years.
Fast food wise I always feel Five Guys is treating myself as it costs nearly double other burger chains.
Bullseyesuccess@reddit
Ribeye steak (medium rare) with thick-cut chips.
MrsMaplebeck@reddit
King prawns cooked with garlic, chilli, lemon and parsley, a slice of sourdough, and a couple of glasses of good white Rioja.
destria@reddit
Chicken shawarma rice box from my local Turkish.
I used to work by Green Lanes in London and was spoiled for choice in terms of kebabs, doner, shawarma etc. I've since moved but this rice box is the closest I've found.
Taylor_Kittenface@reddit
Is no one going to make a monk reference about treat night curry, egg fried rice with extra egg, chips etc ...

My husband doesn't like Chinese takeaway, so every now and then when he has a night out I treat myself to a sexy Chinese all to myself
Naive-Interaction567@reddit
Good quality garlic chicken kievs, thick bisto gravy, chips and broccoli.
abyssal-isopod86@reddit
Savory: Indian takeaway with all the extras and a can of cold 7UP.
Sweet: one of my own homemade warm fudgey Nutella brownies with a dollop of nicely chilled natural yoghurt with a hint of vanilla and a dusting of nutmeg.
Frick, my mouth is watering!

When I was little in the 70s, we would have tinned potatoes as a treat. Shared between 4 of us. 🤣 So a large tin of potatoes with mint sauce!

Mine’s a full cheat meal combo, like fried chicken with fries and a cold drink. Nothing fancy, just hits different when you actually need it.
emj90@reddit
When I was a nursing student in London the only thing that got me through was knowing I'd buy myself a Krispy Kreme donut on the way home. Actual comfort food/meal is pasta, tuna, broccoli and potatoes covered in mayo.
