What’s that one “bad movie” that you genuinely love?

We’ve all got a guilty pleasure film… what’s yours?
Educational_Branch_8@reddit
Starship Troopers
Grand-basis@reddit
Starship Troopers is incredible. It could be classed as rubbish if you don't get the satire.
Educational_Branch_8@reddit
Mate, no one watching that is missing the satire. IIRC some of the initial criticism was that the attempts to convey Heinlein’s message were too shallow and on the nose. Add that to the weird pacing, ludicrous casting/performances and camp script and yeah, it’s a bad film. But it’s a really entertaining bad film that at least tried to say something and it looks really cool.
Grand-basis@reddit
Some people literally don't see the satire so for them people it may be a bad film. Maybe ridiculously over the top but it's done with intention which I wouldn't categorise as a bad film...mate.
Ok_Concentrate3969@reddit
I was tempted to say another Paul Verhoeven film, Showgirls, but it’s not bad, it’s intentionally heightened and ST is the same. Realism is only one way to make a movie. There’s a lot of sharp satire in both films. And gratuitous boobs do not automatically a B-movie make.
PedanticRedhead@reddit
You're doing your part!
Alecmalloy@reddit
This isn't remotely a bad film?
cheflifecdf@reddit
It's not a bad film, won't hear a bad word about it!
kestrelita@reddit
Surely Starship Troopers 3 is the guilty pleasure? 1 is amazing, 2 is appalling and 3 is so bad it's good. I listen to 'it's a good day to die' more than I should.
sasnakes@reddit
I just said the same 🤣
phatbrasil@reddit
Starship Troopers is a masterpiece in satire. I really believe without starship troopers we wouldn't have films like wolf of wall Street

Love Actually is a comfort hug for me
Gold-Perception-8021@reddit
This is not a bad movie, it’s a Christmas classic
Holiday_Cat_7284@reddit
I was going to say this movie. Even though I adore it, it's bad in a lot of ways. Particularly the way women are treated and spoken about. But it does have a charm that stomps all over the icky bits. Probably down to some iconic actors rather than script.
Lily_pad_gargoyle@reddit
I think that’s because of the time it was written when people thought Martine mccutcheon was chubby. Same with Bridget Jones diary when she isn’t remotely big. Looks superb wearing the bunny outfits. I always thought the placard thing in love actually was creepy as well.
Ok_Concentrate3969@reddit
Ikr, standards of “fat” at that time were wild. How could anyone look at Martine McCutcheon - or Renee Zellweger as Bridgette Jones - and see anything other than perfection. And it’s healthy perfection. Glad that that part of the movie aged like a banana. Imagine if we still looked at women that way. Things haven’t got a lot better, but they are a little better and I genuinely think we can thank the Kardashians for that. I don’t watch their stuff, I don’t particularly like them, but thank you ladies for having a little junk in the trunk and being ok with it.
made-of-questions@reddit
I've been rewatchig with my spouse Love Actually every holiday season for many years, because at this point it's tradition. It's super interesting how our favourite relationships changed over time as we matured. At this point the only non-disfunctional one seems the Father -Son.
History_86@reddit
I love this film
chrisrazor@reddit
Had to scroll a long way to get to a film that truly is terrible.
Tattycakes@reddit
Such a good soundtrack too
TheKnightsTippler@reddit
I watched this for the first time last year. I felt it was a bit like a sketch show, hit and miss, but overall I enjoyed it.

Con Air

He said bad movies
Ok_Concentrate3969@reddit
Well yeah, it’s the greatest film ever made.
It's got everything, hasn't it? You know, you've got Malkovich for your acting chops, you got Nicky Cage for your action, Steve Buscemi for your comedy, John Cusack for the gays. It's like a smorgasbord.
chrisrazor@reddit
I haven't seen it but I've only heard good things about it.
kylehyde84@reddit
Ohhhh nothing makes me sadder....

RaspberryJammm@reddit
Phantom Menace is a great film, much better than any of the Star Wars sequels
CollectionStraight2@reddit
I like Phantom Menace too! Finally I've found someone who agrees
pajamakitten@reddit
I was eight when it came out and will defend it out of nostalgia. It also gave us The Saga Begins by Weird Al, so that alone helps to vindicate it.
chrisrazor@reddit
I'm in the camp that unironically thinks The Last Jedi is the best film out of the prequels and sequels, but Attack of the Clones is my guilty pleasure.
Cheese_Dinosaur@reddit
I agree. ☺️ I have a new found respect for the prequels…
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
Yeah im sick of the hate.
I LOVE JAJA and I'm not sorry about it.
beant64@reddit
I agree with episode 1 and 2 being trash, but Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars movie in general
ExoticMangoz@reddit
People with your opinion are the film equivalent of extreme politicians who try and shift the Overton window. You lure people in by conceding the first two films, and that somehow makes your liking the third seem more reasonable. I won’t fall for it!
beant64@reddit

ExoticMangoz@reddit

GoHomeCryWantToDie@reddit
It's over ExoticMangoz. Beant64 has the high ground.
liamrich93@reddit
The prequels had the best lightsaber fights and that kinda trumps anything bad
Dazz316@reddit
Sucker Punch. If my 13 year old self could make a movie, that'd be it. It's a trainwreck but it crashes in a fucking blaze of dumb action and sexy ladies.
itsfourinthemornin@reddit
Absolutely loved this movie and came to find out most people didn't, soundtrack definitely swayed me most of all and just thought it was really cool as a teen! I still do now tbh...

Soldier7sixx@reddit
I didn't know this was a bad movie until I started seeing videos on YouTube saying it was shit 😭
Kitschy_Lil_Tart@reddit
Calling them sexy ladies despite what the movie is about is wild XD I agree tho, the movie is an oversized the top drama fest but seeing it all happen from the perspective of gorgeous edgy women made me love it.
Dazz316@reddit
THey aren't particularly sexy when they're in the gowns and messed up vecause of what they've been through. But when they're in their fantasy world, sexy indeed.
Guinness710@reddit
Yeah but you know what they say....Grippy socks....grippy box.
I think I just threw up a bit saying that. I am so sorry.
nigesoft@reddit

presterjohn7171@reddit
I wanted to like that film on any level so bad but I lasted an hour. Snyder is a cinematographer not a director.
SpartanS034@reddit
Wanted, for similar reasons. It's hilarious and dumb but awesome.
pineapple_on_a_stick@reddit
My daughter saw the bunny mech suit on the cover and wanted to watch it, me being the irresponsible father to a then 5 year old let it happen. She loved the ninja girls beating up the zombies.
secretlowkeys@reddit
I loveee this movie so much
tobotic@reddit
This was going to be my nomination too.
pantyfire@reddit
This is my go to answer whenever this question comes up. That movie is a very guilty pleasure for me.
Alive_Ice7937@reddit
Zack Snyder somehow manages to make scantily clad models fighting clockwork nazis and zombie ninjas tedious as hell. I guess that's kind of an achievement.

Campy in a knowing way... intentionally campy. It's enjoyable to watch
laura_susan@reddit
Introduced this to my 11yr old daughter last week! It still holds up, but there’s a lot of disordered eating and eating disorder adjacent stuff that was very out of place in 2026. Had to explain to my daughter that the 90s and noughties were a wild time to come of age as a woman.

The Meg 2. It’s supposed to be bad as they made it as a parody to the first film as it got a lot of hate for being ridiculous so they lent into it. It’s just so funny and “bad” which makes it a great film!
Timcatgt@reddit
Mission Impossible 2 for its over the top action and Tom Cruise at his physical peak.

clockworkarmadillo@reddit
Practical Magic. It has major visual storytelling problems to the point where the plot is genuinely confusing in places, and parts feel very much written by a committee. But its atmosphere and texture are great, and I first saw it at the perfect age for it to become a perennial autumn comfort watch.
Alien_Youth@reddit
American Psycho 2.
It's bad. It should have never been named as a sequel to such a great film.
But I have a genuine fun time every time I watch it.

joshii87@reddit
Epic Movie has no redeeming features at all. It’s like the 2006 version of doomscrolling, just amateurish childish observations for 90 minutes.
horizon_hopper@reddit
I donno maybe cos I was a kid when I watched it but the ‘Headon’ skit still makes me snort

Cloryte@reddit
In Time. Full of plot holes, basic af storyline but I can rewatch anytime.

Orgazmo.
For the uninitiated, this is a story of a Mormon who becomes a pornstar to fund his dream wedding in the temple to the love of his life. Due to his religion, he can't actually perform in the porn, but he's provided with a stunt cock. For some reason he's also a black belt in karate.
10/10 watch, no notes.

Earth Girls Are Easy. A trashy sci-fi comedy musical that had the first major roles for Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum.
Uhura-hoop@reddit
And a young Jim Carey! Yes I loved this one, growing up. Jeff Goldblum as a hairy alien is such babe.
‘Cos I’m a sex pixie- is that ok?’ 🎵

yeah in that version it doesn't feel like a bad movie, as much as one that just suffered from bad timing - post-apocalypse stories weren't anywhere as popular in the 1990's as they were back in the 1980's

David Lynch's Dune, I thought this captured the universe of Herbert's books so imaginatively, from the Bene Gesserit to the Navigators in their various forms.
The new films are "better" in some ways, but I still prefer Lynch's world building, just a massive shame he wasn't allowed to complete it to his satisfaction.
HelikosOG@reddit
Lynch's Dune is a bit closer to the book and they nailed the aesthetic of Dune. I do like the film but if I had to say a bad word against it. It's so goofy.

I saw this at the cinema, and later saw it again when visiting friends studying in France.
In French, no English subtitles. But my friends spoke French, and I had seen it before, so that was OK.
So we got to the part where Princess Aura is being tortured.
Kytus says something, and Aura screams; a friend turns to me and whispers that he didn't understand what they'd said.
I said "He said 'Bring me the bore worms' and she screamed 'No! Not the bore worms!'"
My friend said thanks, then a moment later... "Bore worms? What the f*** are bore worms?" 😄
For a whole second, my translation made sense to him. Then he realised he didn't understand my words, either.

I love them all. Got my partner to watch the first two and he said they were so slow and nothing happens so he doesn’t want to watch any more! Which is annoying because the last two are the most action and drama packed. Might have to exercise birthday rights to force him!

Ahhh yes, the film set in medieval Scotland, where the only Scottish actor in the cast plays an Egyptian wizard. And Queen does the soundtrack.

folklovermore_@reddit
Apparently they're remaking it but it's had various setbacks. I feel like this is trying to tell us something.
Gary_James_Official@reddit
Egyptian via Spain - and not even attempting to do either accent. Somewhere after The Man Who Would Be King it felt like Connery stopped giving a shit (which, given Zardoz... is understandable), but his complete lack of giving a performance only enhances everything he appeared in. Even through to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen he was watchable, despite zero effort being put into his roles.
Gary_James_Official@reddit
It's completely obvious to anyone with two functioning braincells that the script for the second film was a terrible idea, yet somehow - the sheer audacity of the direction, its music, all the cast bringing insane oddities of performance - means that I'm never going to get tired of sitting through it. There are multiple WTF moments, not least of which is the alien nonsense, adding up to an immensely entertaining mess.
The rest of the films are... not so good. But the first two? Peak 80s nonsense.

Timeline. So bad, so batshit, such a guilty pleasure.
It's got Billy Connolly playing an archaeology processor, and Paul Walker plays his son. Son visits father at summer dig, gets crush on other archaeologist on site, father tells son "son, if it's a choice between you and archaeology, you'll lose!". Then father gets trapped in medieval France so they all have to go rescue him. And Gerard Butler plays a Scottish guy so has his real accent for a change. It knows exactly how stupid it is and leans properly into it. Raul Julia steals the scene, sure, but I don't think a single person on screen is taking it remotely seriously. Possibly van Damme.
Unlike the equally bad but portentous and po-faced Mortal Kombat movie from around the same time.

I love bad films. Not everything has to be an artist masterpiece that I think deeply about for weeks. There is merit in something just being a bit of lighthearted fun aswell. I've been making my way through atrociously bad b-movies on Amazon prime and accidentally came across a film called Spaghetti Man. Swiss Army Man is also an unsung masterpiece.
CaptainMcClutch@reddit
The intro to him going to China is a title card that says China and zooming in on his face to him saying "China" which is really the only way to tell he isn't in the park from earlier or where they did the Vietnam flashback.

I guess Red Dawn. But I wouldn't actually consider it bad tbh. The premise is pretty insane but the visuals are really nice, they did a really good job with the locations. Acting is fun with a solid cast (Swayze, Sheen, Lea Thompson also in Back to the future, Jennifer Grey who was in Dirty Dancing with Swayze). Harry Dean Stanton and also Powers Booth is actually pretty great when he shows up.
The violence is pretty crazy at times and the political message is abit silly - I'm sure people say it's bad but I like it. The remake is an actual bad movie...

Stepbrothers. I laughed so hard on a flight to America watching this film that I was uncontrollable in my seat with tears streaming down my face and the entire row of strangers sitting with me ended up asking me what I was watching. In the end the whole row of people were watching it and everyone was laughing so much that we were attracting quite a lot of attention. Its so dumb but it was hilarious at the time. This was not long after it came out. The whole thing is just tongue in cheek and the actors themselves are obviously having a good time and trying not to laugh.

Alexander.
I honestly have no idea what Oliver Stone was thinking when he made this epic disaster. It's so comically (yet unintentionally) bad that it makes for glorious viewing, to savor every moment of atrocious acting, poor character casting and abysmal editing. The script is horrendous for such a fascinating historical subject material, and there's not a single character that emotionally engages the viewer. I mean, this is a film directed by Oliver Stone, with A-listers like Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Rosario Dawson and Val Kilmer, and yet it manages to suck so, so badly.
Colin Farrell's acting is so damn awful in this film. It's like he's auditioning to be a Craggy Island extra in Father Ted. What makes this film even more comical is how many "final cut" versions Oliver Stone has made to try and save face. Each director's cut gets progressively worse. And yet, the joke is seemingly on me, because I own every single version of this diabolical film on DVD, and derive an insane level of enjoyment from its mediocrity.

Cats. Saw it five times in cinema. It’s just the same as the musical with leotards swapped with CG costumes. The songs and music are just as good even if the plot makes no sense. There’s a reason it was the longest running West End musical.
