Its an awful idea in general because you get warm beer 4 times as fast from your body temp.
Joe01091981@reddit
Good times!!! I remember doing this and a buddy of mine wore a diaper.
FastWalkingShortGuy@reddit
I used to do it with Steel Reserve 211 in college.
Or so I'm told. I don't really remember.
Fuckin_Hipster@reddit
80oz of 5.5% is not remotely similar to 192oz of 5%
SubBass49Tees@reddit
Doing that with 211 is a recipe for a TERRIBLE night...and a terrible next day.
Deathgripsugar@reddit
Better that than the steel reserve getting warm.

We preferred Olde English for the 40-hands of Fridays, but often settled for St. Ides.
C-Redd-it@reddit
😆 steel reserve?!?.... Oh man, that shit was great, IF you were looking to get drunk AND nauseated fast. Often being late to gatherings I'd have to play "catch up". Two tallboys of SR (on an empty stomach) would get me there, three would get me sick.
TheFuckingHippoGuy@reddit
Wear a kilt
FungiStudent@reddit
Its 6.6 beers in an hour. A 40oz is 3.3 12oz beers. But yeah it would get you drunk fast.
FastWalkingShortGuy@reddit
Steely is about twice the alcohol content of commercial ale.
jockfist5000@reddit
80/12 is 6.666667 so it’s a bit over a six pack, not over a case.
FastWalkingShortGuy@reddit
Steely is 8% ABV, so it's about 10 regular beers.
See, I can't do math anymore. That's what 40 Hands did.
lakatos_intolerant@reddit
Absolutely this. Did it once with one of my best friends. Never again.

jadedlens00@reddit
Did anybody else ever try “jangling?” It’s where you drink the 40 down to the top of the label and add grape or orange soda to fill it back up. (And then repeat as many times as you want or need.) It was.::. not the worst.
Temporary-Jump-2403@reddit
Yep orange juice. NGL I really enjoyed that.
sunstruck7@reddit (OP)
Yea. With OJ we called that a brass monkey. We def did it
thirtyaught6@reddit
Ah, puke-soaked and terrible hangover high school memories. Mickey's, OE, Little Kings, Cobra, and super cheap stuff that the label fell off. Good times.
Anyone else make Brass Monkeys or Beermosas with these? Drink the beer down so the cone was empty and fill that part back up with OJ or Sunny D. I just got a weird craving for pizza rolls and bagel bites.

uncle_monty@reddit
Malt liquor was never a thing in the UK. I've never tried it, but in my head it's similar to Special Brew, which I only ever drank if there was absolutely nothing else.
Cider was our go to cheep booze when I was growing up. Merrydown was a staple for bottled cider, or rough cider like Cheddar Valley or Black Rat. Even a bit of White Lightning now and again if you wanted to get arseholed quickly, but that stuff isn't much better than Special Brew.
Mr_SunnyBones@reddit
Yeah trying to think of an Irish/UK equivalent and the closest is either Carlsberg export cans or a big bottle of Lindon Village or Old English ( cider) ..or maybe buckfast . 4oz is about 2 pints roughly so its a weird size.

WorriedMarch4398@reddit

professorpicklechips@reddit
By the time you got the bottom they were warm af. After a NOZ balloon and 3 64s that was a great night after a football game in hs
Kahnza@reddit
That's why I would only drink half, then put it in the freezer while I drink half of another one from the fridge. 😎
instant_ramen_chef@reddit
Damn.. no. Thank God. 14yo me was barely making it through 3 grenades.
1denirok5@reddit
Those were so.e crazy times. We would get bottles of everclear as well and make jungle juice.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit
Jungle juice was for the flyer parties. It had everything in it. Plus a jug of red punch mix.
iheardthemetalclank@reddit
Ah, good ol’ jungle juice. In college we had an annual winter formal. People got dressed up and went to a sort of dance but there was always a lot of pre-gaming. The real party was in the dorms.
My best friend and I stole a recycling bin and lined it with a (clean) garbage bag and made some insanely strong juice and invited everyone we knew into his very small dorm room to drink. There were no frat houses with common areas or anything.
Post-formal, we returned to his room and there was still a ton of jungle juice there that couldn’t go to waste. We may have played GameCube. I don’t know. I passed out on his floor in a shirt and tie and can still feel the carpet imprint on my face.
1denirok5@reddit
Good ole days
Rdubya291@reddit

ArtDecoModerne@reddit
There’s definitely a hierarchy to it. Mickeys are only to be consumed in grenade form.

My dive bar carriers the grenades, though they're usually called "big mouths" around here.
They aren't very popular - I've maybe sold 5 in the year I've worked there - but we do restock them every so often.
necronomitodd@reddit
Ahhhhh, back when I had a 40, and a pocket to put it in.
chawrawbeef@reddit
Don’t think I ever had a Mickey’s, but we drank plenty of Olde E and St. Ides. Also Hurricane, which I haven’t seen anyone mention here yet.
RobMcGroarty@reddit
Hurricanes were the choice for a chill weeknight. The corner store had them 3 for $5 back then.
St. Ides were for weekend blackouts.
hamburgler26@reddit
We used to make beer bongs for these out of plastic tubing from Home Depot that attached to the mouth and let you really slam them. Terrible decision every time.
Fillmore80@reddit
Wasn't he just bitching for them to unblock the straight? Is this twilight zone?

MichaelFusion44@reddit

grunkle_dan78@reddit

Dog_Baseball@reddit
Yes! Big-mouth caps!
GreenHairyMartian@reddit
Man, those big mouth cans were awesome.
We used to go off-roading and camping in the Mojave desert, and we would take those suckers, drink the beer, fill them with gasoline, put the Caps back on, and then put them in the hot side of a nice bonfire. Gasoline would heat up enough to the point where it would start boiling and increasing pressure inside the bottle, but nothing would happen until enough pressure built up to blow the cap off the bottle. And when that happened, the pressurized gasoline would instantly vaporize and shoot a fireball about 30 ft into the air. A homemade BLEVE (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion).
Good times. Only had to drive someone to the hospital once. And they healed just fine!
Dog_Baseball@reddit

I've always been curious about malt liquor, but have only heard bad things.
sunstruck7@reddit (OP)
Original marketing of malt liquor in the 1950s-1960s aimed at a middle-class audience, promoting it as a sophisticated, high-ABV alternative to beer, often branded with WASPy names like "Country Club". Early campaigns used themes of "champagne on a beer budget" (e.g., Champale) to suggest luxury.
Sempophai@reddit
The only option I've seen anywhere in Australia is nearly 30 bucks for one 40 ounce bottle, which I suspect is a bit pricey.

NC, we loved those grenades here. We were forty connoisseurs around 97/98. We got in good with a gas station guy who loved us for buying cases of 40s at a time for parties He let us order from a vendor catalog or some shit, so we got exotic with it Double Malt Colt 45 was absolute ass tasting but would literally try and kill you with one bottle. I think, but am not certain, Double Malt was a rebrand of a legendary Power Master version of Colt 45. It was banned immediately after release, so I heard. Maybe it was just weak enough to pass the poison test, idk. Now,the Interwebs actually kind of backs it up, or is repeating the same lie about Power Master. Either way, we had a 40 Olympics in 98, King Cobra won gold, naturally. Mickeys just made everybody jump.
