Serious Question Fellow Gen Xr’s

I personally think we have been through it ALL! We have seen more Good and Bad in our Lives and lived through it. I have to get all of your thoughts on something… I have quite a few relatives who are WOKE as they call it.
Well here’s my problem, the WORST one who’s in her early 20’s is constantly trying to tell me that I HAVE to change, adapt and use the terminology of today. And guess what I REFUSE! I’m sorry but when we were growing up we didn’t care what the person was, if they were cool they were COOL. We didn’t cry and try to hide every time someone didn’t like us or bullied us. We fought our battles and got through it. I raised my kids to be leaders not followers, and I’m 4 and 0 and that Thank God …. But some of these relatives I just can’t anymore! How do you all feel about this situation? This terminology they want us to use, the pronoun nonsense 🤦🏻♀️ I REFUSE to call myself Cis Woman LMFAO just because some people got bored during Covid and decided to push a new agenda on us.. I don’t care if you’re Gay or Transgender just don’t try to TELL ME what I must say and how I have to say it. Am I wrong? I really want to know how you all feel about this situation please..

It’s your choice. I don’t even know what that means cis or whatever but if that’s what they wanna call me- I’m not gonna refer to it myself. I’m just me but you do you & if that makes them happy OK

Cis- just means that you agree with the gender on your birth certificate; it's the opposite of trans-.

Cis means “cisgender” (the opposite of “transgender”), meaning that person identifies with the gender they were assigned (told they were, based on appearance) at birth.

Cisgender means a person’s gender identity corresponds to their biological sex assigned at birth. I can’t imagine why anyone would have a problem with this term unless they have a problem with transgender people.

Well the responses here have renewed a bit of my faith in my fellow aging folks. Seriously, the comments are mostly amazing. I don't know about anyone else, but it's good for me to be reminded that the "everyone's horrible" narrative doesn't reflect reality. Hopefully OP can have the same realization.

OP, no one is claiming that you have to call your self anything, just accept that other people clasify themselve differently. I am unabashedly an older, white, heterosexual male and also cis gendered which just means I identify as my biological sex, i.e. not transgendered. I don't walk around calling myself that, but it can help when participating in certain contextual events, like scientific discussions.
All terms like cisgender do is give a common framework of understanding so that people can have serious discussions about the topics that surround genders. Or, similarly, how mathematics terms shape those conversations. Without that framework talking about those subjects can be difficult.
All you've got to do is just accept people as they are, and empathize with their concerns. You don't have to change anything about yourself at all.

It doesn’t bother me to call people what they want me to call them. Just like if they have, you know, a name. It literally doesn’t change a thing about my life and it lets them know that I see them.

What so hard about respecting some one enough to call them whatever they choose? As for the cis woman thing, who said you have to go around saying well as a cis woman I yadda yadda! No one has ever asked me that or asked me to refer to myself as that. People post their pronouns in their bio because they choose to, no one is forcing you to do it. People are just asking that you respect them.

I’m in favor of using terminology that makes people feel respected and safe. As a college professor I spend my days with 17-25 year olds. A growing number of them identify as trans/non- binary. They don’t all have supportive parents. I don’t think they care if I use the term cis for myself or not as long as we have mutual respect.
