Toxic Hell
BIRDsnoozer@reddit
I'm Canadian, and at that point in time Taco Bells were rare up here, but yea they looked like that here as well.
I loved it, and my friends and I used to try and drive there, eat, and get back to school on our lunch break. Many fond memories of stuffing tacos in my face in the car ride back.
Man, I miss the Santa Fe Gordita!

I was just telling my wife about the Demolition Man/Taco Bell cross promotion like an hour ago, and then this appears. This is about as close to a miracle as I’m gonna get in my life.

I wonder if the radical jump in rates of colon cancers can be correlated to "dollar menu" fast foods?
I know my butthole took a beating back then with those bean burritos and tiny paper bag of chips.
Jumpy-Actuator3340@reddit
I'm sure the PFAS in all the fast food wrappers/ papers ain't helping.
Left_Maize816@reddit
Maybe it was from all the kids sucking down packets of fire sauce.

I worked at taco bell when i was 18 to 19. They recently remodeled this gem, it looks sad in there now. It was a insane place to work at 1 in the morning.
S_A_R_K@reddit
Did you have people order a "sloppy goat dick" in the drive thru? My friend insisted that was a secret menu item for a bean burrito with green sauce
GenX50PlusF@reddit
I was surprised at how many people would order items with green sauce when I worked there at 16-17. But then again, I didn’t know green sauce instead of red sauce was an option until I got a job there. I miss how the menu used to be in the 80s. Sometimes I will still drive thru and get a Mexican pizza and/or Nachos Bell Grande but it’s not nearly as good or cheap as it was in the late 1900s.
lunapearl83@reddit
Not at all. I remember when we made them with green onions too. Mmmmmmm
GenX50PlusF@reddit
Oh yes! So much better back in the day with the green onions! Though I recall a customer being unhappy about me putting them on her nachos when she didn’t want them. These days, you might as well go to a real restaurant rather than fast food or just eat at home.
lunapearl83@reddit
You know that doesn’t ring a bell.
But this one time our manager got pulled through the drive thru window by his tie because a dude got mad at us for running out of chalupa bread.
apoplectic-confetti@reddit
I worked there in high school because of the teal/purple uniforms and the Musak was techno dance music. My priorities were straight back then.

Taco Bell
Cryptic1911@reddit
Ohhhhhhh the days of .59c tacos and they still made legit chili cheese burritos and meximelts. I miss the past :(
Go there now and the tortillas are all dry and cracked, you get like a salt bae sprinkling of meat and you'll walk out paying like $35 for 4 things
LambSmacker@reddit
A few years ago I was still ordering meximelts even though they arnt on the menu, and I’d get them. Not sure if that is still a thing. I’m going to try it now. Mmmmmmmm meximelt!!!!
Cryptic1911@reddit
they did bring them back for the 90's menu a while back, but they weren't the same since they weren't steaming them before rolling. You can cheat by ordering a rollup or a stacker and customizing to add/remove stuff like the beef / 3 cheese blend and pico
Linguistic1@reddit

Jack in the Box. Their tacos were deep fried with everything in the tortilla.
GenX50PlusF@reddit
Arby’s with their Horsey Sauce on the hot ham and cheese sandwiches they used to have were my jam when I was there in the early 90s instead of Taco Bell, lol. Either that or Arby’s roast beef sandwich with the onion bun, gooey cheese sauce, bbq sauce and Horsey Sauce. With some curly fries, FTW. It was another of my fast food favorites besides Taco Bell. Better than and preferable to McDonalds since I’ve never cared for beef patties/hamburgers. But Taco Bell (this picture, especially) and Arby’s bring back good memories of eating out in my early 20s. That and Wienerschnitzel.
valanlucansfw@reddit
Former Arby's employee here. The small buns are discontinued unfortunately and the slider buns are too small but...
Order a ham and swiss but tell them to substitue cheese sauce instead of the swiss, get a side cup of cheese sauce to put in the middle of the ham yourself, and you have a bigger version of the same thing.
GenX50PlusF@reddit
Their late 80s/early 90s rebrand from their brown, orange and gold aesthetic of the 60s-70s. When they remodeled the original mission style brick building to “modernize it” or sold the original building and relocated to a more standard commercial building that was not necessary all brick Spanish colonial style with a bell on top.
