What’s the least fuel efficient vehicle you ever had?

We had a 65 IH R220 as a farm truck. Had a hall Scott big 6, it got maybe 1-3 mpg.

My 72 Mustang with a 351C got 9mpg city , and maybe 17mpg on the highway.
My dad's 78 Dodge pickup truck (former highway department) with a 318 got about 8 city / 10 highway.

AMG Mercedes GLC 63S One that I had the ECU modded

I had a 69 Coupe deVille convertible w/ 472. Pretty sure the speedometer and fuel gauge were mechanically linked..it was funny, it would literally show it empty sometimes and then when I let off the gas it would settle back to the normal level.

My old explorer averaged 12 mpg with how I drove it, I needed to slow down when I was a kid

1992 Ford F150 2wd reg cab 302 5mpg It was the worst vehicle ever. Drove it off the lot new and at the first light both front springs collapsed Over the next 12 months it needed Transmission 2 starters Flywheel Drive shaft Rear differential 2 computers 4 stereos And a dashboard after one of the stereo caught fire and melted it. All while returning 5 MPG, fill both tanks and you could drive almost 200 miles.
When I complained about it they claimed the bug deflector was the reason for the poor fuel mileage.

1970 Torino Cobra. Averaged about 10 mpg.

2001 Chevrolet suburban with the 5.3L. I once estimated the fuel mileage based on the consumption vs the odometer to be about 8mpg. But damn if that car wasn’t unstoppable though. Had 250,000 miles on it when it was traded in and other than regular oil changes and a couple sets of brakes nothing else was ever really done to it. On the converse the most fuel efficient vehicle I’ve driven was a 2001 VW Jetta with a 1.9L diesel. That car had a lot of issues, like a hemorrhagic oil leak from the turbo and a bad battery, to the point that it was untrustworthy to drive more than a few miles to the store but it was still getting 40+mpg at 200,000 miles.
kfriesen@reddit
1979 Cadillac fleetwood broughm with a big block. It got 6 mpg city and highway. I spent as much time at the gas station as I did in class during high school.

Had a '77 MC. 350 with a 4bbl carb. 8 to 12 mpg. On the bright side, gas was $1.40 and I was making $4 per hour.

Meanwhile the first car I rode in/ spent most of my first \~6 years in, was a 350 powered first gen monte that regularly knocked down 20-22 on long highway trips. :)

1999 Holiday Rambler 36 foot Class A motor home with a Ford Triton V10. On good days I got 6-8 mpg but most of the time it was 4 mpg.

1969 Chevrolet C-10 truck. 283 ci V8, built to 300 HP. Got 9 mpg when you weren't having any fun. I probably averaged about 6 mpg.

My current daily is a 2016 frontier pro4x, and I get around 14.5 with mostly red light to red light driving. It's close between that and the 1990 Ford Ranger 4x4 with the 2.9 v6. The ranger was probably worse with my driving, but it was my first vehicle and had to be ran near WOT to get to highway speeds ... it eventually got there

75 Ford Torino wagon. Brought it used three years old, heavy snow started the day after we bought it and filled the tank. Weather cleared on the weekend headed out on a short trip and remember freaking out on wife "where did you drive this car?"
Turns out it was getting three miles to a gallon. Never got over eight and I'm positive the odometer had been rolled back by about 100K. Worst mileage and biggest piece of shit I've owned.
Tanglefoot11@reddit
An old 1968 mini with a 1300cc (77.8cubic inch) engine!
Had the small 5.5 gal (UK) tank & I would do 100 miles between filling up and very empty....
At best I was getting 20mpg uk (16.5 mpg US).
Shocking for a car with such a tiny engine lol, but it did go like stink & my foot was made of something heavier than lead ;þ
DonkeyImpossible316@reddit
2000 Porsche 911. Wasn't THAT bad but I drove it with a heavy foot (couldn't help it). My current 911 Turbo isn't much better as it has the same issue (me), and its tuned. Its for speed not efficiency.

1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport with a 351 Cleveland, fast as hell from gas station to gas station. Got 10 mpg up hill or down hill didn’t matter the conditions you got 10 mpg but to be fair it wasn’t exactly stock either

1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon. Had a 400 c.i engine and air conditioning. Seated 7 comfortably and could carry a 16' aluminum canoe and all of my camping gear. All of the rear seats folded down and a 6' tall person could sleep comfortably in the back. I loved that car. Went to lots of concerts with a car load of friends. It had a great map light for twisting up a joint without distracting the driver.
If I could buy anything I wanted, I would buy a fully restored 1972 Vista Cruiser. Thank God gas was only $0.39 cents a gallon!

1982 Dodge Ram, 360 cubic inches of gas guzzling power. About 4 mpg.

I got about the same with a 79 Chevy Blazer K5 with a 350 V8, full time 4wd, and a lead foot. My 06 Civic Si gets about 20 mpg stock due to the same right foot issues. Once I boost and tune it, all bets are off.
djaca70@reddit
How are you getting that low mpg with your Suby?
militaryintelligence@reddit
It's the WRX STI and has a pretty serious tune on it, I think. I bought it this way. I've had it 3 years and have only put an alternator on it. Other than the MPG it's been awesome.
rezwrrd@reddit
Mine's got some engine sensor issues and gets 17-18 (was originally 26). I could see a slightly more serious issue dropping it further.
deadbandit19@reddit

1970 GTO, 400 & 4-speed. Yardage, not mileage. Tach needle went one way, gas gauge went the other way just as fast. Also, my 2012 Nissan Titan 4x4 gets 12mpg. With today's prices, the Titan hurts!
GAS2HI@reddit
Gen 1 Honda Insight 2000, had over 210k on it and had a Lifetime mpg of 59.7 and once went from Metro Detroit to Atlanta on 1 tank of gas, 73.3 on that tank.. A very special car.

1972 Pontiac Catalina. As best as I could guess it got less than 10 mpg around town. Not a problem for most cars but the gas gauge didn’t work.
I ran out of gas on Lower Broadway in Nashville and it took four beefy men just to push it out of the main traffic lane.

I had a Chevy K2500 that basically didn’t have rings anymore. Gas mileage on the highway was single digits.
Worse, it burned just about as much oil as it did gas. I’d buy whatever the cheapest oil I could find a couple cases at a time and would have to stop every half hour or so on the highway to add a couple quarts. I’d also use it to “recycle” all of my and my friends’ used oil from oil changes. At one point the bed was about half full of empty oil quarts.
I bought it crazy cheap to do “truck stuff” around town every once in a while. But my daily-driver broke down and I drove it as my daily for a little bit.
Eventually a friend’s car broke down and he borrowed it for a while so he could shop for a replacement. He called me one night and told me I was bankrupting him.
Oh to be young and broke again!

460 in an f250. It’s just thirsty for fuel all the time, whether you want to drive like an old man, absolutely haul ass empty and drive way too fast or pull 10k lbs down the highway it barely changes. I mainly drive highway and this truck will burn 130L in 600km whether it’s loaded or not. This is on 3.55 gears as well, 4.10 might be slightly worse but I doubt it, it makes peak torque at 2200rpm which is 100km/hr in overdrive with 4.10 gears. I sit at 1700ish with 3.55 gears and I’d really only benefit from flat land, not mountain highways.
