How many of you were tattooed as a minor and the artist never got your parent’s permission beforehand?

{{{Cries in butterfly tramp stamp}}}
everybodys_lost@reddit
At least yours is a butterfly LOL. Mine is some weird tribal art and it's also a little crooked 🥴
wtfworld22@reddit
Mine isn't a butterfly but I do have a tramp stamp and honestly I forget it's there 99% of the time
SSIOSSIOSSIO0@reddit
I got mine at 14. Its under my thumb so its very visible, however its just half a heart with the other ie being a S. My mom literally didnt even notice for like 2 years
username052624@reddit
I never did, but somehow chanced into knowing that there were sister tattoo shops across town from one another, where you could get a fake ID at one and then use it at the other one. I brought multiple friends to get tattoos and fake IDs because of this despite being actually terrified of getting one myself.
Notabagofdrugs@reddit
I did, went to NH and just lied. I was 17, and they just believed me.
Rahawk02@reddit
I was 15 I said mom can I get a tattoo she said ask your father. I said dad can I get a tattoo he said if you are dumb enough to ruin your body for the rest of your life sure go ahead.
Went with my Jewish friend and used his ID. His name was very Jewish sounding and my tattoo was a Notre Dame leprechaun because I thought I was Irish and found out recently I'm Scottish . The tattoo guy looked at my ID laughed and said get in the chair Mick-Stein
yayoffbalance@reddit
i mean, technically, the OG scots migrated from ireland in like the 400/500s or sometime around there, so if you are scottish, you could also be irish, depending on your full history. so you might not be wrong. but it's also cultural, so that's a thing. but geneologically speaking, you might be... just trying to silverline you... i guess? and that's honestly a funny story. tat guy sounds hilarious.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
The Romans were battling the Picts and building Hadrian's Wall well before 400CE. Which OG Scots are the OG?
yayoffbalance@reddit
oh, with out being a historian, and just making a bit of a joke, about the poster's tattoo regarding the scottish/irish bit. nothing too deep or serious here. i'm NOT a historian by any stretch, and was on a plane, so i couldn't get too technical or serious about any of it.

Just pierced, belly button. 16. Then I took my 15 year old friend to get hers done. The guy 100% knew we were underage.
Bonus: it was by an ex-con who owned his own shop and had an alligator as a pet in the waiting room.

I had to cringe as I scrolled past this one...because my house was the one you came over to for underage tattoos. My Moms, at the time, boyfriend was a decent prison artist, with his own setup, and tattoo'd my sister when she was in 5th grade. My 17th birthday party, like 10 friends and myself got tattoo'd in the basement. Did it make me cool? Absolutely. But as an adult I fucking cringe thinking about it!! Especially having kids of my own. I will say the only redeeming thing about it all, is that he had a clean by all standards setup, no shared or reused needles, and good quality ink.
AAmallard@reddit
1 belly button piercing at 15 and 3 tattoos by 17. Sorry mom.
12Whiskey@reddit
I got my belly pierced at 15 while on vacation at Myrtle Beach, I was vacationing with my friends family so my parents didn’t know. The guy at the shop used a piercing gun and put a stud in. Needless to say it got super infected and when I got home I had my grandma take it out because she wouldn’t tell my dad. The skin was so inflamed you couldn’t even see the stud and my grandma had to fish it out with pliers. Love you Mamaw ❤️
mcshartypants@reddit
👋👋👋👋
First tattoo just lied about are.
Second tattoo - friend's weird sketchy boyfriend in his basement with a child running around
12Whiskey@reddit
I had a similar experience. 15 years old, my best friend’s boyfriend did it with a needle and some ink. I totally hate it and it looks so trashy but I’ve never had the extra cash to get it removed. If you watch King of the Hill, Louann’s mom has the same tattoo in the same exact place. And she’s super trashy 😂 I cringe every time that episode is on.
abbydabbydo@reddit
Used my fancy new laser printer and holographic paper to make a student ID from Pioneer HS, had barcode and everything. Guy took it, I’m sure he didn’t believe it. Windows clip art flower between the shoulder blades.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Like... spanning that space, or just a little one located in that region?

My first tattoo was in a shop where they photocopied the counter girl's license instead of my id and told me not to say anything the cops came. I was like oh okay, no red flags here. About half way through my tattoo, the cops came with a mom who was furious because her under age daughter had been getting piercings at this shop using the same counter girl's id. The whole time this is going on, the guy kept on doing my tattoo while arguing with the mom and the cops. I ended up leaving when I saw the counter girl sneaking out the back and he took and extended break to scream at the cops that he was running a legitimate business.
absentlyric@reddit
The tattoo artist in our area was weird, he always made the boys get permission. But he never did it for all the underage girls.
No_Custard_6481@reddit
Just asked for a pack of smokes to prove I was 18. Had my friend buy them and got the tattoo. It sucked honestly but oh well. It was also expensive.

Flimsy_Situation_506@reddit
I was 16. I told my parents I was going to the appointment they didn’t think I’d be successful. The tattooist asked me how old I was, I said 18 and he tattooed me.
lol .. my Dad was surprised but also intrigued with the entire healing process and never got upset.
Coitus_lnterruptus@reddit
I got a tattoo at a party when I was 15 by a guy that ended up being on America's Most Wanted.
lavasca@reddit
Storytime, please. What was he wanted for? BTW, yes, you definitely won the thread.
Coitus_lnterruptus@reddit
I grew up in a really small town. His dad was the county sheriff, and the son was a complete maniac. He was known for giving tattoos, selling drugs, and being crazy. He was suspected to have kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and fled the state. I don't know what ended up happening with that specific case. I know he was in and out of prison up until he died a few years ago.

I got my only tattoo (right hand) when I was 13 at some fuckass train station and cleaned it in a puddle on the way home.\ A needle with some poorly wrapped thread around it and ink from a tincture.\ "My crazy life" indeed.
I also wouldnt qualify the guy as an "artist".\ Just a classmate who copped some "contraband".
Bonus:\ At 15 (or 16?) I had two "friends" put out a cigarette in each of my shoulders.\ Best friends for life or some bullshit.
Oh and my main parent never brought up the tattoo.\ Fairly certain even to this day... no clue.
firewifegirlmom0124@reddit
I waited till I was 18 for the tattoo, but I do a few of my own piercings around 14. Belly button with an ice cube and a safety pin. Webbing between my thumb and forefinger with a piercing gun. Little things like that.
suddle@reddit
I didn’t get any tattoos underage, but I did have my nose pierced! I was too chicken to ever do piercings at home.
Back then, where I lived, there were no professional piercers. You had to go somewhere where someone had a piercing gun and was willing. My friend and I took the bus to a larger city an hour away, and had our noses pierced by a hairdresser who also did earrings. The gun hit the inside of my nose and started bleeding. I still have scar tissue in my nose 30+ years later.

I was friends with the kid who’s dad owned the local tattoo shop. I got a shitty arm tattoo at 16, another shitty one at 17. The most akward was probably him using stolen peircing kits to do piercings and I had him do my dick in our highschool bathroom
AppropriateDream2903@reddit
I was 15, my dad gave me the money for it, but I went in with a friend. I was not in America at the time, though.

Me, 15, sprawled out on a dining table as some tweaker tattooist inked me up with some unicorns on my shoulder blade.
Definitely no parental input.
Reading this thread: we were going through some shit at 15-17, wtf.

I got my first tattoo on my 18th birthday. My mom came and got her first and only tattoo at the same time. They won’t match, but it was a nice moment.

I got multiple tattoos, one of them very large, as well as bellybutton, nipple and genital piercings from our local tattoo artist before I was 18.
Lucky-Remote-5842@reddit
My brother got one when he was about 15, but to use the term "artist" would be a stretch. 🤣
m1ke_tyz0n@reddit
I've been inked up since 15.

👋. He asked if I was 18, I said yes, he stared at me for 5 seconds and asked "what do you want".
Fawners@reddit
Not me but my husband. Got at tattoo when he just turned 14. His mother was with him though and they did it at a friend's house, and the tattoo artist was drunk. I hate that tattoo. His mother also tried to get me to get my tongue pierced with her, and get me a tattoo, and I was 13 at the time.
My husband is working with a tattoo artist to finally have a cover up done on that tattoo.
Spare-Good-5372@reddit
I saw a girl in school getting a prison jab in the back of home room class once. Looked like absolute shit but she said she loved it. It was like a heart-shaped shotgun blast.
duitsallnightlong@reddit
Yes. I got one of my tattoos when I was 16 in my high-school cafeteria.
Silverback55@reddit
I was 16 and a dude offered to give me and my buddy tribal bands around our arms. I thought my mom was going to kill me and my dad because he wasn’t as furious as her. He just thought I was a dumbass.
That tattoo has since been covered up.
auramaelstrom@reddit
The place everyone went when I was a teen only asked for a letter from your "parent" consenting to the tattoo or piercing.
I had really nice handwriting so I think I wrote about a dozen permission letters for friends.
Aggressive-Green4592@reddit
Soooo.... My dad showed me how to do my very first tattoo and then I did a few of my own technically without permission.
Fabulous-South-9551@reddit
Not tattooed but pierced. My parents were in a different country so their permission was not possible at the moment
earmares@reddit
I got a tattoo at age 12 at a party. Pretty sure the artist didn't care about my parents' permission. 😅
Gorkymalorki@reddit
I was 16, my friends and I gave each other little tattoos using a sewing needle and some Indian Ink. Mine is a little stick figure. The one I gave to a friend was an Ahnk.
queenquirk@reddit
Technically, no. Not a tattoo.
But I got my tongue pierced without parental permission when I was 17. So that's very similar.
He wasn't the one who did the piercing, but right after I got the piercing I met someone who worked there and ended up pregnant by him a few weeks later.
As far as the piercing, it took about a week for my mom to even find out because apparently she was used to me not talking to her much at that point. I think she might have complained about the shop but I'm not sure if anything came of it.
GeetarEnthusiast85@reddit
Not me but my older sister. She had a friend who had a tattoo kit. Our parents wouldn't allow her to get tatted, she went behind their back and her friend did it.
The parental units were none too pleased when they found out.

🙋🏻♀️ South Padre Island in 2000, I was 16.
It has long since been removed 😭
up_scumbag@reddit
Not only did I find a shop that tattooed me at barely 17 without checking ID, I also told everyone I knew about it, which started a wave of tattoos at my HS and Youth Group!
At least one set of parents identified me as a bad influence. I didn't even drink! (It was way easier to get ditch weed)
M3L03Y@reddit
I did, the artist never asked. However, I definitely called and made sure my Mom was cool with it beforehand.
ailish@reddit
17, at a party. I got a dolphin on my chest. No regrets, still like it. It just needs a touch up.
mr_snartypants@reddit
My first tattoo was at age 17. I used my college ID card and there was zero questions from the artist/shop.
I proceeded to join the military about 6-8 months later. I had my back, shoulders, and chest fully covered along with a partial sleeve on one arm before I ever turned 19.
In retrospect the tattoos are terribly done. I wasted an awful lot of money and time and wish I had better ink to show for it. However, I do not regret them. I have said for the last couple decades that I would have them redone, but never got around to it.
ModernDayMusetta@reddit
I was 15 and I got a peace sign on my forearm because ny friend had made a tattoo gun out of a bic pen and some motor from a random electronic and we were bored in drama class.
It has now (thankfully) been covered.

yayoffbalance@reddit
not me, but friends did! i went with some of them when we were 16/17. They asked if our parents said it was okay. a resounding "yes" flew from our lips, even if we wren't getting the tat. it was great. artist was named spyder or something, downtown and a part sex shop part tat shop. those were the days. lol.
psyclopsus@reddit
Right here, first tattoo in a legit, licensed, small town shop at age 17 with no permission and no paperwork, just cash. He let me use the shop landline from the chair to call my manager at my restaurant job to let her know I would be a bit late because I was getting tattoooed. I was 4 months shy of 18 and kept it from my parents all summer until I turned 18 in the autumn. They were pissed and threatened to sue when I told them, but nothing happened
cashews_clay15@reddit
Oof, me. I got two when I was 15, one each bicep like a total idiot. And they were bad bad.
I kept my arms covered until I was 30 and finally got them covered.
realRavenbell@reddit
I got my tongue pierced at 17 because I was friends with the owner's kid. Didn't get the tattoo until I was 19.
jaydeke@reddit
Me. Cjrca 1998. Getting it removed now.
GaspSpit@reddit
At 14, I stole a bottle of calligraphy ink from art class because my friend told me that it was ideal for making your own tattoo. I used a sewing needle, sterilized with a lighter & rubbing alcohol and made my own tat on my big toe.
Every person I showed it off to said it looked like a sperm. 🙄 When I was 26, I got it covered up by an artist at a drag race. Now my black widow spider needs a touch up. She’s missing a leg.
Clover_overre@reddit
I was 16 thought I was invincible lol regret it now
sarithe@reddit
Got my first tattoo at 16 from an older friend that was apprenticing at a local tattoo shop. We did it at his house though because I was underage and couldn't do it at the shop without my mom being there to sign off for me. It's somehow not the worst tattoo I have on my body.
My mom wasn't pissed about the tattoo, she was pissed I didn't tell her about it until afterwards.
JPMoney81@reddit
Right here! Lost my mom at 14. Got her name in Japanese characters at 15 (as was the style at the time) without permission around my bicep.
My dad and I did NOT get along after my mom's passing. At one point we were arguing and he told me 'maybe if you were a better kid you wouldn't have stressed your mom into having cancer to begin with'. That bad.
He finally noticed it about a year later and just didn't say anything but I could tell it annoyed him.
A few months later we had a BBQ at our house on the lake and were having a sauna. One of his co workers was in the sauna with us and he thought he'd score a jab on me. 'Look at what idiot here did to his arm'
His co worker asked 'oh what does it mean?' And with the smuggest look I was able to say 'oh its a memory tattoo it says my mom's name'
Old man looked like he wanted to kill me.
We get along pretty decently now but those were some rough years.
xxxmalosoxxx@reddit
got my 1st tattoo at age 15. its on the back of my neck and i remember coming home with it and my mom thought it was a temp henna tattoo. after 2 weeks she finally got mad and said "omg thats real! how did u get that!!?!" lol. the artist never asked for ID and smoked a fat blunt before doin it. He said he did his best work high and after more than 20+ years it still looks clean.
