How many of you were in this exact scene?

This was peak middle school for me.

This was peak middle school for me.
skinnyminnesota@reddit
That pile of Airwalks did NOT smell good...
PvtHudson093@reddit
I dont see how someone could sleep with the head right next to the pile of Airwalks
avindictiveprinter@reddit
With a towel for a blanket.
frecklemimus79@reddit
I once slept under the corner of the rug
zakupright@reddit
I used couch cushions for a blanket
silentknight111@reddit
Well, in my situation I had stayed wake playing games for like 30 hours before finally crashing.
Floundering_Dad_43@reddit
After the Mtn Dew wore off, you didn't care. I think I fell asleep ON a Stratego board once. With the pieces still on in
OtherAcctWasBanned11@reddit
Teenage boys can put up with a lot of stink.
JanthonyGo@reddit
Hahaha. Came here to say the exact same thing.
Over-Percentage-1929@reddit
I have questions about those two sleeping next to the shoes, like HOW? and WHY?.
onyxcaspian@reddit
Truth is they smell even worse so the olfactory overload takes care of it.
holy_butts@reddit
I had the vinyl Airwalks in ‘96 and they smelled absolutely horrendous. They looked cool as fuck though.
SlimyPurpleMeteor@reddit
Omg, I had a pair of Airwalk slip-ons in high school I ended up having to throw away because I could not get the funk out of it. All I’d have to do is slip my heel out during class to release a god-awful smell and have classmates asking who shit their pants 😆 🤢
IceSmiley@reddit
Mario looks too well rendered. Did they have N64 in 1996?
musashi-swanson@reddit
I was that kid using his t-shirt sleeves to stay warm on the floor
Juls_Santana@reddit
Reminds me of me and my HS friends when I had a sleepover soon after Mario 64 released.
Man we spent SO much time literally just playing with that menu screen and exploring the outer castle area.
Hootinger@reddit
Yep. Those are my shoes. They are even laced correctly (with the laces going straight across).
SaveusJebus@reddit
That poor friend that doesn't have a blanket.
Xjadebones@reddit
Better question: what were the movies and video games you had going in this scene? I’ll go first. Star Wars, species and the hobbit. And we were playing parapa the rapa and Spyro.
TiEmEnTi@reddit
Not nearly enough empty Coke cans, but otherwise accurate
lizziekap@reddit
God this used to be so normal.
latebloomer2015@reddit
I was a junior/senior in 1996…so nope. We were out at a party or out with our friends. My brother born in 1983 would’ve had this party. But my 1979 self was too busy for the video game. lol
KetaMina81@reddit
Not me…very jealous if you had this! My mother was very strict and didn’t let me have any friends, couldn’t even go ride my bike around with a school friend. I remember her mom coming to my apt and begging my mom like I’ll be riding with them! Nope.
thewalruscandyman@reddit
Not I.
I was meticulous about order and organization as a kid.
I'd freak out on friends who got my movies and games out of alphabetical order.
squish042@reddit
Oh man, sounds like my son. So…uhhh…how did you turn out?
thewalruscandyman@reddit
You might not like my answer, but pretty antisocial. Prefer being on my own in my own place. Not quite agoraphobic, but close. I can go out, and do, I'm just unhappy and uncomfortable to do so- like I have a ten day vacation with some of my favorite people coming up that I am dreading as much as I am looking forward to it.
LatinOso85@reddit
Your poor friends. Lol
thewalruscandyman@reddit
...yeahhhh...you're not wrong. 😅
Master_BROshiii@reddit
Missing about a dozen half drunk soda cans and a couple empty pizza boxes strewn about, but other than that it's spot on.
TheDukeofArgyll@reddit
That one asshole who always got the couch every single time.
squish042@reddit
That’s the kid that always got his hands in warm water while sleeping or the shaving cream with a feather trick.
bragsdale80@reddit
I’m literally in that exact scene! On the floor behind the couch.
esocharis@reddit
Would've been a few years earlier for me, I was a senior in HS in 96 and we weren't really doing sleepovers by then lol
Make this 92ish with Final Fantasy 2(4) or Street Fighter 2 on the SNES and you got it though lol
theRestisConfettii@reddit (OP)
Yoga Flame
VVrayth@reddit
NBA Jam and Street Fighter II Turbo, but otherwise checks out.
Emannuelle-in-space@reddit
For me it was bomberman that kept us up til sunrise
Impossible_Rain_3065@reddit
1080, Tony hawk, 007...
Dr-McLuvin@reddit
Diddy Kong racing
Tall-Introduction414@reddit
Yeah, this was more like 1992 for me.
LatinOso85@reddit
I remember trying to stay awake after everyone else fell asleep just to play video games uninterrupted
frecklemimus79@reddit
We had an Atari at home, so having unfettered access to an n64?! I was awake until someone’s dad went to work.
frecklemimus79@reddit
The kid with no blanket, that was me lol
whoisbill@reddit
So many Sundays spent exhausted from not actually sleeping over my friend's house haha.
Charger2950@reddit
There was rarely ever any sleep involved, aside from maybe 3-4 hours. It was always up until 3:30am-4am. Lol.
Careless-Ad-6328@reddit
This is why we always brought our own sleeping bags and pillows to sleepovers. You never knew what would/would not be provided (and honestly how many people have spare bedding for an extra 6 people?)
doloresgrrrl@reddit
I still have that futon.
_MadGasser@reddit
96 was my graduation year. That was not me.
slippedintherain@reddit
Ha ha me too - sometimes in this sub I’m reminded of the divide that still exists between those of us on the 1970s side of the Xennial span and those from the 1980s!
absentlyric@reddit
Its the worst about being from a transitional generation, because depending on the weather, you were either a Gen X or a Millennial, but not both.
smoot99@reddit
96 for me too but this would have been a little earlier
Some-Bullfrog-4768@reddit
Yeah a few years later and we were still tripping when we woke up.
_MadGasser@reddit
If we slept at all!
Some-Bullfrog-4768@reddit
Just laying there pretending to sleep, afraid that it will last forever, and bittersweet when it goes away.
Vaguely_vacant@reddit
Always one kid with a towel or something as a blanket
ImmaDrainOnSociety@reddit
"You left the TV on all night!? Do I look like I'm made of money, young man?"
DrippyTheSnailBoy@reddit
Nobody because it's AI dogshit.
pxFloof@reddit
Eh but stirs memories either way... but ya... its a bit... wonk
SpecialistDevice4115@reddit
Thank goodness I'm cutoff from this group as an 85 baby. Sleepovers sucked. Being 11 years old sucked. Other kids sucked. Now that I'm an adult all I do is tell people to fuck off and it's awesome.
pxFloof@reddit
I'm an 85 and I had loads of these... XD
JWWBurger@reddit
It was usually Goldeneye or one of the WWF wrestling games. Pizza and Mountain Dew were stables.
pxFloof@reddit
Omg I loved making horrible looking characters to fight as.
Ok-Training3941@reddit
This music plays in my dreams
TrapThem@reddit
Sick repost, OP.
P-Otto@reddit
Shirt sleeve as blanket floor as blanket
XyzzyPop@reddit
I remember that poster, because it was on door to the furnace room.
dbwedgie@reddit
Airwalks and Vans everywhere. I miss the 90s.
Spartan04@reddit
I was in high school in 96 so sleepovers didn't really happen anymore for me since they just didn't appeal to me or my friends anymore at that age.
When we were younger though we did have them and would set up sleeping bags in the living room. Best part was being able to stay up late and watch TV or play video games.
Fredwood@reddit
One year later and it would have been Goldeneye.
Traditional_Isopod80@reddit
I loved that game!
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
Yes. Most people I know did not N64 until they played Goldeneye.
Heavy_Pin7735@reddit
Love it!
smoot99@reddit
oh hell yes
AlissonHarlan@reddit
mario 64 was released in 1997. That's not 1996.
lothartheunkind@reddit
I was always the last one awake and having to find something to use a a makeshift blanket.
NurseCait@reddit
Yup! This looks VERY familiar. 😅
E-2theRescue@reddit
Yup.
There were 6 of us, and we were like The Sandlot, but with video games. We'd scrounge up some money, buy snacks at our favorite rental store (family owned and the owners were amazing), then head over to someone's house. Sometimes, it wasn't even a weekend. We all took the same bus, so there was no problem if it was a school day. Run back home, grab your school bag, then stay the night.
magomra@reddit
mario kart, goldeneye and magic the gathering games until the sun came up
SMUHypeMachine@reddit
Man it’s a shame kids nowadays rarely get stuff like this. In elementary school in the early to mid 90s basically every birthday party ended up as a sleepover and we’d stay up watching movies and playing Bloody Mary and such.
MydniteSon@reddit
I remember, senior year of HS, we all crashed at my friend's house one night. We were up till about 6am playing D&D. Must have been 10 of us passed out on the living room floor. I remember looking up as out friends father was gingerly stepping over our bodies, around 7:30am. He just looked at me, shook his head and said, "Its like Jonestown...the day after."
Silly_Lavishness7715@reddit
Ha! My Dad except he said " what is this, an opium den?"
whiterock73@reddit
Take it back to 86. We’d still be out running the streets
Silly_Lavishness7715@reddit
Keg in the dunes
DPTDubbs@reddit
Maybe a few years earlier with some wicked games of ping pong and time on the hot tub. Besides, Mario 64 wasn’t multiplayer.
LassieDear@reddit
My college dorm room sleepovers t the time looked like this but with many more people
flyzapper@reddit
The late night Mario Kart battles were EPIC.
Texas_Kimchi@reddit
YUP! We were computer geeks though and played Papyrus Indycar Racing and other LAN games. Me and my friends didn't have a lot of money so we would go dumpster diving at Electronics stores and then go to Radio Shack to find stuff to fix stuff we found. We then resold it to the same computer stores we dumpster dove from. We spend all our money on computers and skateboards. All 4 of us are in IT currently too.
ThatEvanFowler@reddit
Just add an overflowing ashtray to the table and yeah.
AlchemistMustang@reddit
You don't even know what sleeping between a dresser and bed feels like with Twisted Metal still on and plates of chips and cheese
Different-Local4284@reddit
So whack. A stack of games everyone has beaten. Nothing on tv because appointment television. Can’t be loud cause parents are asleep. Also waiting around for parents to pick up the kids and no one knows how long it will take for them show up. Lets not forget. Lets not forget grainy vhs tapes, played on a dirty vcr, of movies that were absolutely terrible when they were new. Breakfast in the morning would be cheap cinnamon rolls that smell and taste of melted plastic.
I would trade all the friends and sleepovers to enjoy the modern era
Bradtothebone79@reddit
Show those LAN party pictures again. THAT was a good time!
Ckn-bns-jns@reddit
These days if I go to bed past 10pm I feel worse the next day than I did after the all nighter sleepovers back then.
wasianDilf@reddit
Some are freezing
Impressive_Bat3090@reddit
This is why our backs hurt but damn it was fun
Shoulda_Ben_Aborted@reddit
We had no worries
viridiansoul@reddit
Unfortunately I grew up in a cult, so I didn't get to do sleepovers.
HeightExtra320@reddit
That game was just something else 🥹
DonCavalio@reddit
Only a lucky few
schindigrosa@reddit
Ain't sleeping for shit and it doesn't matter.
JediNeo101@reddit
Shoes in the house, TV left on a static image?? That would be that last sleepover i would ever have.
bendybiznatch@reddit
Poor kid had to go grab a towel for a blanket. Good times. LOL
Starship1617@reddit
No cell phones. No social media. Just the moments. I really miss those days man.
bassman314@reddit
I can smell this picture.
Dirty feet, teenage boy, Cheetos (despite not Cheetos being eaten), and an attempt to cover it up with Lysol spray.
Charming-Insurance@reddit
I just had my great niece and nephew and sister for a sleep over. This was my front room this morning. 😍🥹
lasims79@reddit
You can have a blanket OR a pillow, but not both. Classic
Kalel42@reddit
We were more Genesis then PlayStation, but otherwise exactly right.
Adamcolter80@reddit
That's a Nintendo N64
Helix_Hematite@reddit
dude this just unlocked memories I didn't know I had
Ok_Consequence7829@reddit
Stomachs full of rice krispy treats and tang
chud_wik@reddit
The fucking BEST TIMES EVER
CunnyMaggots@reddit
I had a trundle under my bed so we'd just pull it out and pop it up and put it side by side my regular bed and have 3 or 4 of us asleep all over the two of them.
2PM2@reddit
Many and more.
