My wife and I were there. It was loud but I’m here to tell you, being in our sixties we have been to far louder outdoor shows (like The Who, Sabbath and like hard rock/metal bands).
I think the article is dead on regarding stage positioning and low cloud cover carrying the sound. Hopefully organizers can find a solution by next year
RealDonn11@reddit
Solution? Amplifiers have volume controls.
RandleMcMurphy1962@reddit
It is one option, but live performances of certain genres of music are meant to be at 11, been that way for years. So, while they may turn it down a hair, I wouldn’t hold my breath it will be by much.
Futurllama29@reddit
Who did you see? I’m so disappointed that I had to work.. I was really looking forward to seeing LYNY.. his album is bonkers..
RandleMcMurphy1962@reddit
When we got there, Angry Baby was spinning. Then Lazewo —> Lilly Palmer —> Sofi Tukker —> Fisher
StationFair5095@reddit
who remembers TEXXAS JAMM in the 80s? Seemed loud for the time. Says old-timer, shaking fist at sky.
shaun3000@reddit
I wonder how the neighbors around Fair Park feel when there are concerts at the Starplex. Or during the month-long fair. Or the multitudes of other events. Oh, right, no one cares about poor people. But, as you know, we can’t bother the richer, whiter neighbors to the north.
0masterdebater0@reddit
Yeah it’s not like Fair Park has been there hosting the state far since since the 1930s they probably didn’t know what they were getting into…
It almost like if you live next to a fair ground you should expect to hear the fair… but if you live 5 miles away you shouldn’t hear the fair…
andreaxtina@reddit
I’m glad I’m not the only one that still calls it Starplex
shaun3000@reddit
I mean, why would you call it anything else? 😉
OddS0cks@reddit
No this was especially loud, I live in Santa Monica across 30 from fair park and you can sometimes here the concerts slightly which is fine , but this was next level and travelled way further than usual
electricgotswitched@reddit
Or it's just news because has was traveling 6 miles away and was highly unusual
dickhall65@reddit
Having known people who live near Fair Park, a decent number would let people park in their yards for a fee, and could make a few hundred bucks a night if their yard was large enough
GoGoSoLo@reddit
Haha yeah they really do clean up out there. It was like $30-50 a pop to get a nearby spot in peoples yards or lots last year at the fair, and they pack them in.
ThisIsNotMyBurner@reddit
Bingo
Historical_Chip_2706@reddit
Narcs - who cares. People are outside having fun versus the BS that’s going on each day. I was in the range to hear - we’ll all forget about it in a few days.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
I agree !!! Upvote!
It’s so many things wrong in our city and country folks enjoying music for 2 days and ppl are legit miserable about it. So sad that they so miserable.
RandleMcMurphy1962@reddit
Um, you do realize this was an EDM festival, right?
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
Who cares what kind of festival it is. I don’t like EDM music but I’m not complaining bc others do- it’s music bringing folks together
I live a mile from lots 9/10 I didn’t hear anything and even if I did I live a mile from it - it’s fine
Again FIFA is coming here Fan Festival at fair park it’s about to be way louder than an EDM concert it’s for 5 weeks
RandleMcMurphy1962@reddit
My point is that it was not country music as you implied. That is important in this context. Most of the complaints were about the ‘thumping’ which directly correlates to the enhanced bass that EDM emphasizes.
Totally agree about FIFA coming to town. This little festival will pale to the disruptions that will cause.
xanoran84@reddit
FYI it's confusing because of lack of punctuation/formatting, but he didn't say it's country music. He said "so many things wrong in our city and country [ , ] folks enjoying music for 2 days and ppl are legit miserable about it"
RandleMcMurphy1962@reddit
Thank you for clearing that up. Now it makes sense.
Historical_Chip_2706@reddit
EDM > Bro Country
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
So it’s just the bass - I didn’t hear it I can walk to Fair Park
themilkyone@reddit
I live 3 miles north of Fair Park and holy shit you could hear it day and night from that far away
noncongruent@reddit
It's weird that there's a whole neighborhood between Lakewood and Fair Park, and nobody there apparently heard anything.
Defiant_Abalone7160@reddit
Wife and I live in said neighborhood and we heard not a thing, I even took the dog on a later night walk after seeing Reddit posts from Friday night into Saturday mornings just to see if I could hear the bass and nothing.
We’re probably all so accustomed to the noise of fair park, Baylor and everything else at this point it’s just white noise to us now.
noncongruent@reddit
I wonder what the acoustics were such that the sound skipped you guys and landed north of you?
AbueloOdin@reddit
Probably the same thing that happens at lakes. Hot air trapping and redirecting the air downward.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
Lmao maybe this is me I live in Bertrand a mile from it - I didn’t hear nothing lmao 🤣
crooke86@reddit
I was at the Music Hall for another show on Friday night and drove home through East Dallas. You couldn't even hear much from the other side of the Cotton Bowl, let alone seven miles away.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
When I drove home Saturday I passed by fair park to head home I didn’t hear nothing and it was still cars parked there bc I got home around 10-1030pm
RealDonn11@reddit
Or nobody reported on their concerns.
North-Finding-3542@reddit
I think there are less Karens over there.
Josephk_5690@reddit
If the cloud cover is low and continuous you can hear the sound for miles. I heard the Stones, from the Starplex, in Plano some years back.
yarmulke@reddit
People buying property next to an event space and then getting upset when an event occurs
Level-Level-8604@reddit
Rephrase this to buying property 7 miles away from fair park and having the sound so loud that it was as if our neighbors were having a party in their backyard.
MemoryOfRagnarok@reddit
Go move to the suburbs
xanoran84@reddit
That is the suburbs dude...
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
lol you clearly don’t know what the suburbs are lol 😂
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
It’s NOT.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
Move to the suburbs or to a rural area that more than 7 miles away you live in THE CITY
Level-Level-8604@reddit
I spent 10 years living in much larger and louder cities than Dallas (NY, London, Seoul) before settling here 12 years ago. I know what "A CITY" is. A city is not a skull rattling EDM concert 7 miles from my house. What a truly strange response.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
It’s not a strange response 3-7 miles is not far away from fair park at all - Lakewood is just so insulated they wanna complain about everything in their neighborhood. That’s it. Again I live a mile away and I didn’t hear anything and idc for EDM but I also am not complaining about folks having fun for 2 days at a music festival
Level-Level-8604@reddit
I am happy for you that you didn't hear anything - it was very annoying! I also don't live in Lakewood. I am not sure why you keep saying that.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
Yeah but I can hear bands in the neighborhood playing, and I’ve heard concerts before and the fair traffic, OU vs TX, PV vs Grambling etc it just doesn’t bother me is what I’m saying I knew what moving back to the area came with
Same as when I stayed near entertainment district by ATT Stadium. Lakewood is 10 min from fair park if that my son dentist is over there so it’s just weird to think it’s full insulated to hear city noise…
ReefLedger@reddit
Found the Nimby
Level-Level-8604@reddit
Lol - you're just using words you don't understand now.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
So why move near one 6-7 miles away from one ? What will you do when FIFA come ? Bc it’s 5 weeks fan festival at fair park
Don’t start complaining about the influx of ppl in the are and overflow 6-7 miles away
Yall organized to get Airbnb out of the residential areas so it won’t be airbnbs in the area so that should be good but they expecting 35,000 ppl PER DAY the entire time even when it’s no matches at the ATT Stadium
Level-Level-8604@reddit
Ma'am, this is a Wendy's.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
Yep! Upvote!!!
NIMBYs are 1/4 of the reason the housing shortages occur in this country
North-Finding-3542@reddit
Karens crying over a mild music festival.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
I agree it’s weird af they live in the city and complaining about city things
Up vote!!!
This like me living near a train then start complaining about the train sounds like smh
tunnelingpulsar@reddit
I live up by LL Hotchkiss Elementary. We could hear it all night. We just got home from the hospital with a newborn. It didn’t bother the baby but it was pretty annoying when the time we did have to sleep was disturbed by deep thumping sounds.
Even if it was just weather and stage positioning, stuff like that is what gets whole communities pissed off at venues. It’d suck to see a bunch of communities lobbying for some sort of reactionary law.
We managed to sleep but I can imagine it was much worse father south of us.
PocketGddess@reddit
Part of the issue is that area and Lakewood, White Rock, etc. are miles away from the venue. If I lived near Fair Park, Deep Ellum, lower Greenville or other areas with lots of events and concerts I would expect to hear them and plan accordingly. This was out of the blue and literally house shaking in its intensity, and went in for hours.
Miserable-Mall-2647@reddit
You should expect it period living in the CITY they are 6 miles from Fair Park
What will they do during FIFA Fan Festival for 5 weeks
They just wanna complain about something. It’s 2 days out of 365 they don’t even have a ton of concerts at the pavilion stadium
calf2005@reddit
I’m wondering if it was not Fair Park, but the new venue that opened up that night close by- Longhorn something- an out door venue. It was their first concert the night everyone is complaining about.
Account-Outside@reddit
We are in Lake highlands and we heard it. That’s a long ways from Fair Park. I was wandering around my alley last night at 11 trying to pinpoint it. I thought it was someone with an insane car stereo in the next neighborhood over.
MemoryOfRagnarok@reddit
It was the low clouds. Anytime this happens the sound bounces off clouds and travels much further.
Triplettoddlerstired@reddit
I lived in Vermont while in high school and I’m so glad I got out of there otherwise I would have just worked as a liftie (ski lift operator) smoked weed and listened to the grateful dead forever, this is not the case for everyone but it is not an uncommon path either
drooply@reddit
I came To Read And Make sure Everyone in Dallas Heard it. Apple space Bar is a joke.
sivadneb@reddit
THAT'S what I was hearing? I'm near Lakewood and could hear the bass inside my home
Stonecoldfreak1@reddit
Oh fuck off

Timia Cobb of The Dallas Morning News writes:
A Dallas City Council member faults weather and stage positioning for the loud music that came from a weekend Fair Park festival and was heard for miles away, prompting several complaints from people in the area.
The Breakaway Music Festival rattled residents in East Dallas and Lakewood Friday and Saturday, according to a statement from District 7 City Council Member Adam Bazaldua.
Bazaldua said in the statement that he has been in contact with the city's park and recreation department to address the concerns.
