I’m trying to figure out what I have with this sailboat after buying out an entire estate sale.

Long story short…I bought out an entire estate sale for some other items and this sailboat was included. I’ve been trying to find out what exactly I have here. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

$5. US. Final offer!

Too rich for my blood, I'm out!
Glenbard@reddit
Give him the opportunity to revarnish the entire boat first before you make such a generous offer.
Pukit@reddit
Looks snazzy. Bet it’s fun!
kirbyban@reddit
That’s a Windmill.

Infinite-Land-232@reddit
Pomona Valley Sailing Association had a fleet of those in the 1970''s. Fun boat.
mootmutemoat@reddit
Does it have a sail? I have the sail for a 15 footer somewhere in my storage. Happy to leave it out for you if you are nearby.
tractorpatty@reddit
Yup that thing is cherry. Nice wood 🪵 👌
BassKitty305017@reddit
That’s not gonna make a sailor out of you. It’s going to turn you into a wood refinisher who gets out on the water three times a year.
Federal-Dingo-6033@reddit
Maybe someone's interpretation of a Sharpie.
Pretty and pretty hard to sell. I have given away two wood trailer sailors in the last couple of years.
RoyalRenn@reddit
purdy! If you aren't a sailor (yet), here's your chance to fall in love!
Comfortable-Ad8560@reddit
Looks very well cared for. I’m interested in buying it if you want to sell. Dm me
RCD33@reddit
As others have said, this is a windmill. A truly great boat: fast, super responsive, simple, and inexpensive. I highly recommend getting in touch with the class (or DM’ing me) for help with more information on this particular boat and assistance with selling it if that’s your move. Windmill Class
Good wooden windmills, if built to the legal minimum weight, are as fast and competitive as any new fiberglass boat due to their stiffness.
(Source: I sail one every weekend and have the class records dating back to Hull #1 sitting in my attic)
Theloneus-punk@reddit
If you tell us where this is, someone here that knows what they are doing might be willing to take it for a spin with you. Then you will know what you have and if you want to keep it
HeavyWithChild@reddit
Is the hull fiberglass?
gsasquatch@reddit
Realistically, a couple thou.
A nice boat, sure. But home built don't fetch much. Who knows what kind of condition it is actually in, like if it is functional, if it was actually well built.
Someone's saying it is a windmill, you might be well to get on the windmill facebook page, and ask the man that owns one.
There's a class association page. Classifieds on those pages are usually old, but here's one for $2000 http://windmillclass.myfleet.org/msgs/?f=2&m=19905#Message
Here's one for free: http://windmillclass.myfleet.org/msgs/?f=2&m=19787#Message
That said, for what it is, that one looks nice, and it looks like a better design than most boats of that ilk. It does look like it'd be fun to sail, a good balance of speed and comfort in a 15' boat.
overthehillhat@reddit
Looks like::

DefectorChris@reddit
Judging by this one photo I’d say what you’ve got there is a beaut.
MilesBeforeSmiles@reddit
Yup, authenticated and certified beaut.
iheartrms@reddit
That right there is a registered beaut-ician.
Agent_Orange81@reddit
That little boat would beaut-ify any dock
ulysseswest@reddit
Countless hours work and fun
pab_guy@reddit
If you don’t really want a hobby boat, sell it to someone who cares while the brightwork is still pristine. This will require some maintenance if you actually use it.
TheJimmyCramer@reddit (OP)
Ok thank you! I’d love to have a hobby boat but right now might not be the best time for me to spend the time on it.
Bigfops@reddit
A couple more shots including the stern might help ID it. I would also look through the rest of the estate sale items to see if there are sails. Most likely they would have been stored inside somewhere. If that boat came out of that storage locker then they may be in the boat. Looks like she wasn't stored outside so that's your best bet. Hard to tell you what it's worth but as others have noted it is in extremely good shape and comes with a working, in-shape trailer so worth a few grand at least.
zob_mtk@reddit
To add to this, if you do find a sail it should have a logo near the top which would be the class symbol.
nacraisa_tree@reddit
Windmill 100%
nacraisa_tree@reddit
What info do you want (I have a little bit of time racing them
AvadaKedavra24@reddit
The only info I have for you is that I would give you more for it than anyone else in this thread has offered yet
TheJimmyCramer@reddit (OP)
Haha thank you! Not sure if I’m selling it yet but what would a fair offer be?
Big-Yogurtcloset2731@reddit
No one can estimate a fair offer from this pic. It could well be zero, or it could be 1000 bucks. Depends on the state of the trailer and boat.
slipperyslope69@reddit
If it were in South Africa it resembles a Flying Dutchman.
Capital-Landscape492@reddit
I see ASA 101 in TI your future.
Panem-et-circenses25@reddit
Wow that looks beautiful
Switch-in-MD@reddit
Recommend get info and sell it.
She’s a beauty, but will require time and leaning to maintain that wood. If you tried to clean up and keep, or sell as pristine, it may steal your soul, 10 hours at a time.
If you wanna learn to sail find something you can beat up and are willing to throw away.
TheJimmyCramer@reddit (OP)
Ok thank you! What would you estimate the value at?
Switch-in-MD@reddit
No idea. Value is based on your location, or how far you want to transport it, how much you’re gonna put into it money in time, and of course what make it is. I don’t know anything about that style of boat.
Broken_Timepiece@reddit
This may be a one of a kind. Do you know how to sail? If not, just get a local guy off Market place or craigslist to show you on this boat. He'll probably be super stoked
NaiveChoiceMaker@reddit
It’s a lot of work to rig a boat you’ve never seen correctly.
Real-Artichoke-1780@reddit
You need the right person. Annapolis/Easton shore area, I got someone.
ulysseswest@reddit
Makes even more sense
Huckleberry181@reddit
There's a Thistle sailboat for sale near me that looks very similar to that.
spingdingdowning@reddit
This looks like the boat that my parents had and raced while I was growing up, a Thistle. It was ~17’ long and a wooden monohull like this, including the mast & boom. Their’s was built in the 50’s and I even have the architectural drawings framed in my home office. The only identifying mark was on the mainsail, a picture of a Thistle flower. Good luck!
Avalon-Residant@reddit
looks like a Thistle...two person racing dinghy.
maybe
1959Mason@reddit
I wish when people ask questions about boats like these they would give the dimensions of the boat - length and beam at a minimum. And show us the sail - most classes of sailboat have an emblem on the sail that would help identify it. A general geographic area would be helpful, too. This is a Sharpie for sure but that’s all I can tell from this one photo.
wrongwayup@reddit
Well this is unexpected. Looks in great shape. Do you know who the previous owner was? There is obviously a lot of work that's gone into this boat. see if you can find out who he sailed with.
tx_trawler_trash@reddit
Perhaps a sharpie, oldschool oyster boats, theyre super fun
drillbit7@reddit
I have no idea either, but I like the care and attention to detail in the double-sided, padded mast crutches.
Telekomiker69@reddit
Two options: Sail or sale!
Pretend_College_8446@reddit
maybe unfold the sail and see if there's a type logo on it
That-Makes-Sense@reddit
Looks like it was taken care of. Have fun!
LookAtMaxwell@reddit
It's beautiful.
Angry_Sparrow@reddit
Where are you? If you’re near any wooden boat building schools, they may know the history of her.
Muted-Return-827@reddit
Maybe a mobjack? Never seen one with wood decks though
so-we-beat-on@reddit
It looks like it might be a customized Goat Island Skiff?. Good boat if so.
coldafsteel@reddit
You have a cool boat that you now have to learn to sail is what you have 🤣
Looks like it could be a one off or a kit. Dig around in the hull and try to find a data plate.
crashorbit@reddit
Looks like she was well loved. A fun little day boat. Probably hand built. More pictures including any identifying words. plaques or signage you might notice. I suspect she is an home built boat.
frak357@reddit
Looks like you have an excellent weekend coming up.. Just need to figure out how everything get set up and hope it floats! 🤣🤣
Wolfwere88@reddit
Could use a few more pics
