Wipers get stuck? I usually fix things on my own but I am not sure what is wrong with this and google is not helping.

When i turn my wipers on, they get stuck at the top and then I have to change the setting to get them to go back down. they do work if I turn them on the highest setting. but then one of them gets a loose bolt, and I have to get out and tighten it.

What year, what make, and model?
Do they work normally at the highest setting?
I wonder if your wiper motor is dying.
If the nut gets loose, you can get a nylon locking nut or use some thread locker

2004 jeep grand cherokee limited. They only work correctly at the highest speed setting.

But you also get some movement out of them on lower settings, but it gets stuck. It could be the motor is ready to die. It could also mean the wiring could have too much resistance somewhere down the line. Such as a ground wire.

The bolt shouldn’t just be backing off, it sounds like it’s losing tension but with it working on high it could also be an electrical/hardware issue. Replace the nut with some Loctite or something similar like Kamikazi mentioned and if that doesn’t work have the assembly replaced. Don’t sweat it, it’s normally pretty cheap and easy if you’re looking to do it yourself.
