do you consider the Strokes a Gen X band?

I love the strokes, about as much as I love Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr, Nirvana, and a bunch of other to-tha-bone Gen X bands. Ennui, anxiety, detachment, they bring the goods and def pass the vibe test. My early 2000s experience was the apartment/hookup/druggie/mcjob mish mash and Is This It was the soundtrack. But then there's the keyboards and the sunglasses, eh.
So do you consider the Strokes to be a Gen X artifact?

Not at all, and I love them.
Even though they are the right age (technically 'Xennials'), I think they're a little too late (2001 release of the Modern Age) to be GenX.
Lucky enough to see them when they toured to support The Modern Age and Room on Fire. Great shows, great band, great time for retro rock.

I’d say both the Strokes and the Libertines are Millennial bands, with debut albums in the early ‘00s.

I’ve never thought of them as Gen X but I love them, too.
Have been a fan since that amazing first album.

I honestly don't pay attention to if a band is or not.

Nah, over the half the band is only 45 right now. They kick ass though.
