Damn, the mirrors are everywhere
Unfair_Fisherman_605@reddit
Driver facing camera has to go bye bye.
driver004@reddit
I don’t get the side camera displays. Like I get the cameras for liability and evidence sake but why active live feed? I do like the idea of a decent camera setup to help backing in, anything to keep costs from damage down and things moving smoothly
Scurvy_Pete@reddit
Converting from mirrors to cameras like this was originally presented as a fuel-saving measure. The camera pods are less aerodynamically draggy than actual mirrors
driver004@reddit
I was more thinking of a ass camera not a certain to fail critical safety measure
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
Honestly I'm not too sure what the big bonus is supposed to be either. It's much easier to tell distance in the mirror compared to the cameras. I think they knew this because they have a feature that marks the end of your trailer with a red line and it included a yellow and green line so you can see when you're able to pass someone. But the clarity of the displays are impressive enough and the blind spot camera up top is very handy when doing backing in tight spaces.
driver004@reddit
Is that what that is up top, that’s what I’d be interested in.
I think you answered the question when you said green line means pass, they want to have a thing to avoid side swipes for insurance purposes. Which I mean, far as I know I’ve never side swiped someone but that is a consistent paranoia
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
Yea, you can zoom in and see the passenger side mirror. The camera is directly above it and functions much like those awkwardly placed mirrors some trucks have above the passenger windows.
But yea, i just haven't figured out if thats the main thought behind them or not. Ive never had trouble judging safe passing distance through mirrors, and if you forget to set that line before taking off you have to stop again to set it. If you're in a truck where the company decided to remove the mirrors after setting up cameras then it would be risky trying to pass at that point. I'm sure I'll get used to it but it's much harder to tell distance through those cameras without those lines there, though I've only been in it for a week at this point.
driver004@reddit
Whoah hold the fuck up haven’t seen that; removing mirrors? Like the left right bottom left right and weird antenna ones? (I’ve been doing this for years, dead honest I don’t know what the technical names for what I perceive to be the legally required mirrors, but I can point to them)
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
Plane and convex are the normal big ones on the doors, hood mirrors are.. well...hood mirrors. But yea, I've seen trucks with out the side mirrors, just the cameras. They still had hood mirrors though.
driver004@reddit
I hate that; cameras are more technologically complex than shiney film on back of glass, so are more likely to fail
FunGroundbreaking530@reddit
I think youre missing a tpms screen
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
It's included with the infotainment screen lol
FunGroundbreaking530@reddit
Damn it

What is that camera up in the middle of the windshield? And it looks like you got no radio at all?
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
The top middle screen is the blindspot camera. It functions the same as those awkwardly placed mirrors some trucks have over the passenger window. It does have a radio, its in the infotainment screen. It's like a touchscreen in most vehicles these days.
dawson203@reddit
Where is the cock?
keytiri@reddit
I had the digital dash, hated it, the only exception was the apple car play; the second screen takes up too much real estate and made it difficult to mount my devices.
SeaRow556@reddit
So i guess you dont night drive. That shit would drive me nuts
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
I'm daily but I start anywhere between 1 and 3 AM so a few hours of every day is at night.
ChiTruckDGAF@reddit
How's the brightness adjustment?
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
I actually don't even mess with it. It seems to adjust automatically because it's not nearly as blinding as the 24 cascadias cluster was at night. I had to turn it down at night and up during the day every day. I don't mess with this one.
alisher_r@reddit
5 screens and still no climate control in a $200K truck. KW and Volvos have had climate control for years—you just choose the temperature, and the rest is done automatically. On the Cascadia, you have to switch to heat and direct it toward your legs in the morning. In the afternoon, when it gets too hot in the cab, you realize you forgot to switch to AC. It would cost them $100–$200 to do that.
TruckinTuba@reddit
That looks awful

I deadass thought this was an American Truck Simulator PC set up…
1Stack_Mack@reddit
What is your opinion on those inboard "mirror" cameras?
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
They're alright. It's hard to tell distance in them compared to mirrors, but they have an "end of trailer" feature that when set, will mark where your trailer ends on the display so you can better tell when someone is too close for you to merge over or whatever. They're also able to turn so you can keep track of your trailer when backing.
1Stack_Mack@reddit
I'm skeptical, but curious how they work as you're driving. This tech is getting crazy
tekkskenkur44@reddit
they are just like normal mirrors, when you reverse they'll follow the end of the trailer, which you can turn off so they'll act as a normal mirror.
Best thing about them is if its raining/snowing you'll always have a clean "mirror" and when an asshole with his high beams is behind you, you won't be blinded. Also work well in night time.
1Stack_Mack@reddit
How much of a learning curve is there?
DanEpiCa@reddit
I wonder where the limits to that function are, I'm pulling double 53ft in Canada, I'd be curious if that system would properly mark the end of the second trailer.
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
In that case I imagine they'd extend the arms that the cameras are mounted on for better visibility. The line markers travel pretty far back but at some point I feel like it wouldn't be too reliable.
DanEpiCa@reddit
I'd expect the same yeah, maybe one day I'll know.
Niko120@reddit
All those cameras and screens and still nobody has anything showing what’s behind the trailer where we couldn’t already see with our mirrors. I realize it would take the trailers to be set up with the same equipment matching the truck but come on, it can’t be that hard
Comfortable-Fan5919@reddit
Good job , clean dash and floor mat. Some people have way to much loose crap on the dash
Independent-Fun8926@reddit
All those screens and not a single one has Riley Reid’s greatest hits
Comfortable-Fan5919@reddit
Do you like your in cab mirrors? And how do you deal with all that stuff lit up at night going down the road? At 64 the bright lights suck at night
vfittipaldi@reddit
How is the new Cascadia? The dash looks great. How are the electronic brake valves?
Monksdrunk@reddit
we are currently wrestling with the EBS at my shop. Newer KW. It's crazy. No help online. we're just a small shop. Wabco software has been meh. screaming EBS dash warning over something small like a steering wheel sensor
1Stack_Mack@reddit
Am I old? Electronic brake valves? The camera mirrors on this original post were enough for me to feel old, but electronic valves? Enlighten me. I drive company HateShakers© so I'm out of the loop
vfittipaldi@reddit
I could be wrong, i have never driven a truck with them but you have what looks like those new Yellow and Red buttons for the brakes instead of the old kind where you have to pull it and push it hard.
1Stack_Mack@reddit
I just googled and read an article about it. Basically, air lines are out of the dash and just replaced with paddles. Interesting, but there's a weird satisfaction to having to push and pull those knobs. I guess I'm just old, that's why I still like the manuals I guess
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
They're fine. Easier to use, haven't really noticed any difference except I don't occasionally have one bounce back at sonic speeds to smash my finger.

I miss the freightliner angle. And the wide cab, actually. Been in a Pete a bit over a year now and it's nice to drive but feels like I'm sitting in an old pickup or something
Savagemocha@reddit
You driving a metro bus? Lmao
DanEpiCa@reddit
That's great, did they fix their God awful suspension yet?
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
I tell you what, it's better than the 24 that I was in, but it will still fuck you up.
DanEpiCa@reddit
That's not nothing at least. If it wasn't for the ride I think the Cascadia would be an all around pretty good truck. I even think the interior is quite decent and well built, but you can have all the build quality you want, when it gets beaten up all day everyday things will start to fall apart...
My Cascadia is a November 2023 and on its third DEF tank because they cracked... My buddies back in Germany are completely flabbergasted when I tell them all about American trucks.
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
Yea man they're rough. When i was doing OTR the last truck I was in was a 25 Volvo VNL 860 and it rode sooooo much better than these daily cabs.
DanEpiCa@reddit
I've yet to try out an american Volvo. The European ones are quite alright. But as far as I can tell all conventionals have their cabs mounted to the frame in the front and only the back is air suspended so even though there are differences in between them, they all probably will ride worse then all European cabovers since they all have airbags for the cab on all 4 corners. It's a shame really, because with the longer wheelbase conventionals could ride so much better.
R34CTz@reddit (OP)
I didn't know that. Surely that isn't an effort to control manufacturing costs lol
DanEpiCa@reddit
Nah, can't be. Also can't be too complicated to figure out how to detach the hood from the rest of the cab movement-wise, lol. I'd already be happy if they'd start to mount the freaking seatbelts into the seat instead of the cab so I don't get strangled constantly. Small things, big differences...
Spare-Good-5372@reddit
That is way too many fucking screens god damn
