Do You Use Voice Notes?

I don’t ever use them, but people keep sending me voice notes. I can see where they make more sense sometimes, but also I don’t want to have to listen to them. If you send a voice note, you have lowered the chance of me responding by 50%.

Pertinence to GenX - Posts may be removed if they are not pertinent to Generation X in a specific way.
This includes non-specific ramblings, any sort of conspiracy theories that have nothing to do with GenX, or posts about people who happen to be GenX….and that’s it.
AI videos or articles MUST have the proper flair identifying the content as AI.
Just because an article or video mentions Generation X does not automatically make it pertinent. Moderators will make this determination at their discretion.

...are you talking about voicemail? Are are people emailing you wav files? If the latter, then maybe stop hanging around with psychopaths.

Not voice mail. People send audio recordings instead of text messages, but through other apps too.

If you don't want to listen... read the transcript. It's not that difficult.

I get them on TikTok. It doesn’t transcribe.
Ahkhira@reddit
Nope. That shit gets ignored. Use the actual phone if necessary.

My youngest child (32) uses Siri to send texts, but she doesn't say the punctuation, so it all comes in one big wall of text with no breaks. We can't really blame her, she has MS and sometimes, her eyes go wonky and she can't see her phone. She even has it set up to read her texts from us when her eyes go wonky. (she has an infusion treatment every six months and she says the week or so before the infusion, she gets that gaze nystagmus thing).

No. I don't even use voice messages.

I use audio to send a text - not sure if that is the same as a voice note - and I love it. Started just a few months ago after I was in an accident and had to limit my screen time. I will never be as fast on the onscreen keyboard as I was on my BlackBerry. Fuck I miss that phone.
Read recently that studies have show that a voice note creates my of a connection than a text. I am all about doing what works for you but the audio notes are great for me.

I've never used them, and I've never received them. I don't know how normal or abnormal that is.
Primary-Initiative52@reddit
I've started using voice instead of text due to the abrupt onset of rheumatoid arthritis. Texting is sometimes impossible.
RespondOpposite@reddit
I use voice memos for remembering what happened in meetings, not for other people.

No and no.
Ain't nobody got time for that. -Sweet Brown

😹😹😹
Bubbly_Following7930@reddit
No and no one sends them to me either. I'm unlikely to listen to them.
KindaKrayz222@reddit
I do if you need to hear my pain/excitement/anger/whatever feeling that's best heard instead of reading.

Nope, worse than voicemails.
StandByTheJAMs@reddit
I don’t, but I definitely tell Siri to remind me to call the vet in the morning.
No-Perspective872@reddit (OP)
That’s another thing I don’t use.
ToddBradley@reddit
What is a voice note? An audio recording in a text message? Or a voice message aka voicemail?
No-Perspective872@reddit (OP)
Just the fact that you had to ask makes me feel better! It’s just a recorded message. I keep getting them through TikTok.
ToddBradley@reddit
If you're in this sub, you're too old for TikTok. Cancel and accept middle age.
No-Perspective872@reddit (OP)
Oh no, I disagree- I love TikTok and now it has become an income stream for me!
ZetaWMo4@reddit
Yes, I have Gen Z daughters who enjoy sending and receiving them.
CJK_Murph@reddit
Only with my teen daughters. Because teens 🤷♀️
Just fyi, your phone will transcribe them to text so you don’t have to waste time listening
No-Perspective872@reddit (OP)
I don’t think TikTok does that, which is where I keep getting them.
Excellent_Budget9069@reddit
I don't send them. A friend of mine will send them to me when I am at work and I can't listen to them without getting out my earbuds and syncing them and that is a pain in the ass so I don't listen to them til I get home. She gets annoyed that it takes me that long to respond. Oh well.
chartreuse_avocado@reddit
I experience this more on WhatsApp with international friends. US friends seem to rarely do it.
No-Perspective872@reddit (OP)
I uninstalled my What’s App, so that takes care of that! 😹
flicmeister@reddit
i mostly respond with "I can't listen to this now, but I'll get to it, thanks!" and then i try to actually listen later.
