What's the best UK gig or concert you have been to?

Mine i have 2.
I went with my grandad when I was 12 to see the Jackson 5 at the Apollo in Manchester, they was brilliant.
The joint best was when James backed up the happy Mondays at the Gmex. It was awesome aswell. Great memories.
Hrokin728@reddit
Taking my mum, a life long fan of Bruce Springsteen to finally see him live a few years ago. We were right at the front as he performed an impressive 3 hour set. Excellent and so worth it to experience it with my mum.
deny_evaade@reddit
I'm big into rock and metal but my wife really wanted to see Christina Aguilera live so I got tickets for her birthday and honestly... Best show I've ever been to. Other than that I saw system of a down in Donnington. I think it was their first show out of hiatus. That was a special experience.
BackHades@reddit
In my thirties but didn't start gigging until a few years ago. So probably Bad omens at ally pally followed by nothing more at Kentish town
hotdogswife@reddit
Muse @ Leeds Festival, 2011, playing the Origin of Symmetry album in full.
Elbow were on before them for the sunset slot and that was also a stunningly beautiful moment!
Gankridge@reddit
I just commented the same thing but Reading so cool to see other people still rate this so highly. For me it's never been topped as far as live performances go.
Unbelievable setlist and performance.
Tomkneale1243@reddit
I was there also. It was fantastic other than it was pissing it down with rain and freezing cold.
claridgeforking@reddit
Same, but Reading
Larrygengurch12@reddit
I was at this too. Think I was running between Less Than Jake and Muse
capcrunch217@reddit
Elbow are legit the best sounding band live that I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. Saw them perform at V Festival kids 2010s and they were pitch perfect to their studio recordings. Guy Garvey has a hell of a voice
Geryrude@reddit
What a combo!
wakeyste@reddit
LCD Soundsystem with Hot Chip at Magna. Went last minute on a spare ticket and it was fucking glorious
Prof_PW@reddit
My son gave me a treat, tickets to Rammstein in Cardiff 👍
Ok, my side of the bargain was driving from Wakefield, but I would have walked if need be 😁👍
Simbooptendo@reddit
I was there. Incredible show
SgtBukkakeMan@reddit
Mine might be seeing Rammstein in Berlin. Unreal atmosphere.
grishnackh@reddit
I saw them at Wacken festival, was absolutely fucking incredible.
ImABrickwallAMA@reddit
Did the same in 2019 for the tour of the ‘Untitled’ album. Awesome experience, was my third time seeing them, but ruined significantly by two middle-aged extremely drunk Germans who kept trying to start a fight with me and slapping me around the back of the head. Shame really but here we go!
Prof_PW@reddit
Absolutely every part of the day is a treasured memory. The sound was elemental. The base was so loud, the first beat of the drum turned my son's pint of cider into flat cider, you could see the gas leave it. The sound was as an entity in its own right.
Flinnyboi@reddit
Berlin isn't in the UK though :)
PaleozoicQueen@reddit
I was there too and then went home to see my boys take the stadium where I had sung for Wales so many times, I was so proud!
Sir_Phil_McKraken@reddit
The went to the Coventry one a few years ago. So good
MahatmaAndhi@reddit
I went to see them in Prague. I'm not even much of a fan. I just knew it would be an amazing show.
Wasn't disappointed.
caldawggy13@reddit
2013 download festival. Still the best gig I've ever seen.
Prof_PW@reddit
Or, it could be Jeff Wayne's War of The Worlds....
That was truly awesome. That was my treat to my son 😁👍
LawfulnessOk6949@reddit
More into my metal, saw crowbar in Newcastle who were amazing, great atmosphere, 10/10 band, and Hellripper in salt box, was brilliant, people jumping up on stage and diving into the crowd. Not everyone’s cup of tea but definitely some of the best performance I’ve been to so far
LuDdErS68@reddit
The Freddie Mercury Tribute concert.
sshiverandshake@reddit
Shit, the one David Bowie played? I would've drop kicked a pensioner to be there...
Chaffro@reddit
My favourite performance was of Mott The Hooples' 'All The Young Dudes', which was Roger Taylor on drums, Brian May on guitar, John Deacon on bass, Mick Ronson on guitar, David Bowie on saxophone, Joe Elliott and Phil Collen of Def Leppard on backing vocals and Ian Hunter on lead vocals. Such an insane line-up just for that one song alone.
sshiverandshake@reddit
I would've loved to have been there, I couldn't tell you the number of times I've watched clips of the Tribute Show on YouTube over the years!
LuDdErS68@reddit
Yep. And he did a duet with Annie Lennox.
Metallica were great, but I'm a huge fan anyway!
Chaffro@reddit
Yeah, probably my pick too. Even 30 years ago there were line-ups at that show you'd be unlikely to ever see again, let alone 30 years on where a lot of participants have passed.
LuDdErS68@reddit
It was quite a day. Everyone was so chilled and well behaved.
ThrobbingGristle@reddit
I still have my red scarf thing from that show. I was 10 meters from the stage, right in the middle. I was only a teen and went down on a bus with my girlfriend at the time. Amazing, really. Shame it had to happen.
death-in-tipton@reddit
I could have had tickets for that plus backstage passes. Father in law decided I didn’t want to go.
sshiverandshake@reddit
Why? Without a very good reason, that's almost unforgivable!
death-in-tipton@reddit
A friend of ours was a quite high up member of the queen fan club, she had 2 tickets but her bf wasn’t interested, she ask my father in law to ask me but he turned round and said I doubt I like to go. He’s my ex father in law now ( not for that reason though)
Simbooptendo@reddit
Rammstein at Cardiff Principality Stadium. I was near the front and the fire and heat was unreal. I was pelted in the face with foam from the penis cannon. It was awesome.
Gankridge@reddit
Muse at Reading in 2011, played the whole Origin of Symmetry album with the stage set up as the album cover. It was absolutely immense.
WritingSubstantial79@reddit
Impossible to pick just one as all so different.
Most unique: Live Aid Cliche choice but Oasis at Wembley last year Probably equal with Bruce Springsteen at Wembley 1985 or 2024
‘Big show’: ELO Wembley 1986 Pink Floyd Earls Court 1981
Before they were famous at the Forum in Tunbridge Wells: Adele Stereophonics Coldplay
Less energetic but excellent musicality: Glenn Hansard at London Palladium 2023 or Royal Festival Hall 2018 Everything but the Girl Moth Club London match 2026
Honourable mention for gigs at Newcastle City Hall circa 1980 by: The Jam The Ramones AC/DC Stiff little Fingers
elvisfan777@reddit
The final ever runrig concert at Stirling castle was amazing went with my brother and sister what an emotional night, thanks to sis who got the tickets
11theman@reddit
Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Boiler Shop in Newcastle. The hearing damage was genuinely worth it.
BigSkyFace@reddit
I've seen them a bunch of times now and couldn't narrow down a favourite gig. Incredible live band.
levezvosskinnyfists7@reddit
Oh yeah, Godspeed are amazing live
kinginthenorth_gb@reddit
U2 at Roundhay Park, Leeds, August 1993. I was 18 and Achtung Baby had been on constant rotation for me since it had come out.
It was my first big gig.
The set design, the screens, the little skits and films, the calls to Sellafield etc - I've never seen anything like it. Outstanding.
wheeler1916@reddit
Me too. It was my first gig of any kind and since then I've probably been to 1000 more and none of them have ever topped it. Incredibly, the gig is on YouTube! https://youtu.be/uhsqOBwhfDw?si=xy2fWHGzhN7iwYNw
CrownCommando@reddit
Prince at the O2 or Pink Floyd Earl’s Court in 94 (even though Inwas pretty young).
Legitimate-Dream-111@reddit
I saw the Jacksons a few years back, it was my works 50th anniversary, everyone flown out to Denmark (Danish company) big party and the night ended with the Jacksons. Weird experience to be honest.
As for my best gig, it's tough. It's out of 3....
bring me the horizon at the Royal Albert hall, 2016. first and only metal/alternative band to play at that historical venue. Absolutely amazing.
Slipknot headlining download 2009, first headline for them, unforgettable show.
And electric callboy last year, London. maybe not as "grand" as the other 2 but they always put on an energetic show, great fun.
SelfSufficientHub@reddit
Watching the Prodigy at Glastonbury when they had just recorded the fat of the land.
There was a power cut at the start if their set and the audience didn’t know if it would go ahead so the anticipation mixed with relief when the power came on and a fat baseline dropped was euphoric.
Probably not hindered by being off my tits.
MAWPAB@reddit
Saw them that year with The Beatie Boys at Reading I think. Was amazing.
No_Wrap_9979@reddit
Mine was the Prodigy at Reading in the mid-90s. They are just the best live. Seeing them again in a couple of weeks.
deepspacepizzapi@reddit
Was this in ‘96 when RATM were meant to headline but instead played directly before them? Because that was the best one/two for bands I ever saw at Reading.
Traditional_Bee2164@reddit
I was also there, absolutely brilliant. Plus made it to the film tent for the last half of trainspotting
Ordinary_Drummer_956@reddit
I was also there from 94 to 2000.
Traditional_Bee2164@reddit
I have the advantage of a child who follows my tastes so got to introduce them to the joys of gigs and festivals. Last couple of gigs I went to were gifts from my step son and my youngest, life is good
TheClnl@reddit
Saw them tour FOTL, first song was Smack My Bitch Up with the video playing uncensored on massive screens. As a 17 year old it was the greatest thing I'd ever seen.
MSG1988@reddit
In my first year of going to gigs, I was a 17 year old that had a ticket to the now defunct V festival. First night was either Scissor sisters headlining main or Prodigy headlining second....all I remember is the sea of people bouncing, and I was a fan for life from that point!
Talking_Gibberish@reddit
The prodigy was my best as well, 2010 age 16 at V festival. The energy was off the charts from start to finish. Absolutely incredible!
Newhaven40@reddit
I was at that. It was really muddy!
SelfSufficientHub@reddit
Indeed it was.
I went to Glastonbury 3 times and every one was a mudfest
Garxgarb@reddit
Saw them at the Isle of White festival in 2006 and they were fucking mental then too. So good
ProD_GY@reddit
Wicked. They're mad aren't they. I saw them in 2017. Loved it. Am a huge fan of their first 3 albums
Humble_Position_4653@reddit
Strictly speaking not U.K. but saw Prodigy at Slane in 09 and in the greatest line up I've had the privilege to see at a festival they stole the show. Oasis, Kasabian and Glasvegas also played that day but Prodigy blew them all away, absolutely immense.
Clomojo87@reddit
Also prodigy but at Milton Keynes bowl in 2010 supported by pendulum and chase and status. God it was fucking mental & awesome
Devonmade@reddit
I was at that gig. Absolute phenomenal!
SnooMacarons9618@reddit
Was that the year Paul Kaye compèred for them? I remember Prodigy being not so good, and Paul Kaye being marvellous (including leading the crowd singing Yiddish songs).
SelfSufficientHub@reddit
I don’t think so, I’m talking about 1997 when they headlined the pyramid stage.
I could be wrong though- please refer to module 1 for coverage of “off my tits”.
cal90265@reddit
Led Zeppelin at the O2
Alarming-Check9188@reddit
Faith No More at Phoenix Festival 95 - my first festival, massive crowd and me and my best mate crowd surfed from way back, felt like we up there for about five minutes!
Or
Daft Punk Wireless 2007. Iconic set then went to Fabric afterwards and saw Terry Francis absolutely killing it (as always) in room 2.
So many other options could have made the list tbh!
CountTruffula@reddit
The strokes, everyone was so damn excited. I kept shouting at people "we're all about to see the fucking strooookes" and everyone shouted back
Absolutely fucking amazing
No_Store_5304@reddit
a-Ha, portsmouth guildhall 1986, and Chic ( as part of the Hampton Court Palace Festival ) can’t remember year
cari-strat@reddit
I saw A-Ha around the same time, I think in Birmingham, and they were fantastic.
louonreddit12@reddit
Oasis last year just because of the sheer atmosphere
KinnyWater@reddit
I seen Liam Gallagher in Glasto in 2019 and he was dog shit.
I went to Oasis in Manchester last year and it was one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed.
cari-strat@reddit
I saw Liam at Knebworth a few years ago. The entire memory of that night is overshadowed by the guy from Fat White Family rolling round in the dirt in front of the stage moaning, stark naked except for a pair of nude cycling shorts and a pound of butter. I found it fucking hysterical but I've never seen so many horrified people in my life.
Kasabian also played support and they were fucking amazing though.
thefogdog@reddit
Yeah Oasis last year for me too. Incredible show from both the band and the audience. Which one were you at?
louonreddit12@reddit
Wembley night one, was gutted tha I didn’t get to go to Heaton Park!
thefogdog@reddit
Ah nice, I was Wembley night 7 (or whichever was the last one).
Yeah we tried Heaton Park too but somehow my wife got the Wembley tickets via a fan resale.
paulaandjoe2015@reddit
Agreed. Oasis at Wembley last year were incredible. Don’t think a concert will ever beat it
KingKhram@reddit
Oh yeah, I saw them in Dublin, the whole set was amazing and the crowd were absolutely buzzing
Ambitious_Type3589@reddit
Manchester June 12th , over 30c all day. Biblical.
mpsamuels@reddit
I've got a few potentials I could choose from and it's hard to pick just one as a best, but Oasis at Wembley last year is definitely up there amongst the shortlist.
MysteriousSwitch232@reddit
I’m not really a fan but it was really nice to see how happy everyone was.
davebrooks0473@reddit
I was at the Wembley one, it was amazing
throwawaypopsticks@reddit
100%. I’ve never felt nostalgia like it. Incredible

Google Bordello - Glasgow Academy, 2017
An absolute raft of good gigs from T in the Park...
The Prodigy, T in the Park 2010 Faithless , T in the Park 2010 Muse, T in the Park 2010 Primal Scream, T in the Park 2011 (Screamadelica in full) The Strokes, T in the Park 2011
Kasabian, Trnsmt 2017.
Weezer - Manchester Academy, 2016
The Offspring - Glasgow Academy,2016
Accomplished_Fix5702@reddit
The Who at The Valley, Charlton Athletic Football Ground. 1974.
Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Reilly ... Magical.
And Lou Reed. He did do some songs from Transformer, eg Walk on the Wild Side, but he didn't do Perfect Day, one of my favourite songs.
DesperateWorth7539@reddit
Bowie Manchester free trade hall 1973
caitxofxastora@reddit
Mine is between 3!
Rammstein in Coventry (2022), my sister and I asked if there was a way to upgrade to firezond from General Standing... The steward called over his supervisor and we were given firezone wristbands! Incredible night, got so close to the stage and Rammstein put on a phenomenal show
My Chemical Romance in Milton Keynes (2022)similar story to above. My partner and I had general standing tickets and, when doors opened, we bolted to the general standing barrier. We had a fantastic spot and he suddenly pulls me away because a steward is just giving out golden circle wristbands?? So we got in the gold circle!! I nearly cried, Placebo and Witch Fever supported and it was just an amazing night.
Deftones in Halifax (2025), my all time favourite band. Gorgeous day before the band came on in an open air venue. Opened with Be Quiet and Drive and as the song kicked in the heavens just opened. Biblical.

Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats will love with me forever. When they come back they are a must see.
Some may say surprisingly, James Blunt puts on an incredible show and clearly still loved what he does.
Major_Bag_8720@reddit
Either the Smashing Pumpkins at Brixton in 1993 or Kyuss at Astoria 2 in 1995.
niallmurphytdub@reddit
I had no idea Kyuss played in the UK. Nice.
heliskinki@reddit
I was going to say Smashing Pumpkins at Rock City, Nottingham- same tour (Siamese Dream)
heyyouupinthesky@reddit
That was with Verve supporting wasn't it? Almost went for Verve but wasn't a fan of the Pumpkins at the time... a few years later I realised how stupid I had been!
ThrobbingGristle@reddit
I saw The Verve supporting the Black Crowes in 1992. They were a different band back then to the one that broke through
heyyouupinthesky@reddit
Yeah I prefer the first two albums tbh, first heard All in the mind in 92 and loved them straight away, like you say, a very different band to the one that became popular.
heliskinki@reddit
I saw the Black Crowes supporting (!) Dogs D'amour at Rock City in 1990 - I don't think Shake Your Moneymaker had even come out in the UK at that point - my mate and I had got hold of an import copy. We were down the front giving it some for the whole set, while the rest of the venue were pretty non-plussed about these American upstarts. At the end of the set each member of the band came down the front and shook our hands, was magic.
heliskinki@reddit
Yeah that was the one. It's a special gig that - the only time the Pumpkins played the LP from start to finish, every track in order of the LP.
JackfruitPractical84@reddit
Plan B in 2013. Rudimental and Labrinth were the support acts. Plan B’s set was in two halves, so he went and got changed inbetween with a beat boxer to keep us entertained, really impressive. Only £35 too, even for then it was very good value.
AgileMathematician55@reddit
James Brown. Glasgow Carling (now O2) Academy. 2003.
jajwhite@reddit
The Go-Go's in Shepherds Bush in 1995. Belinda cut off her long red hair and punked up for it with a buzz cut and thigh length dress over black stockings. She looked great and they played some amazing stuff.
And probably Kate Bush in 2013 at Hammersmith. It wasn't a concert, more concept art.
Low_Entrepreneur2174@reddit
The Smiths at Salford University
Iron Maiden Powerslave tour at Hanley Victoria Hall
The Coral at Keele University

Sigur Ros with an orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall
ThrobbingGristle@reddit
Was that last year? If so, I was there and walked out at the interval as I thought it was excruciatingly dire! To each their own!
niallmurphytdub@reddit
It's funny you say this, I was looking for a comment along these lines. Having spoken to people who went, the second half was apparently phenomenal, leaps and bounds ahead of the first.

Envious. This dude isn't going to take anything from you.

Nauticus87@reddit
If the location had been extended to UK + Ireland they'd be close to my top 3. Saw them in Dublin in 2016. I wasn't expecting much for an outdoors gig but the sound was crystal clear and it was so beautiful sitting in the grass listening to their sound float all around me.
I wanted to see them live on this latest tour but tickets were far too expensive!
Livid_Distribution19@reddit
Tickets for Sigur Ros are never too expensive 👌🏻👌🏻
chemo92@reddit
Oh wow.
I saw them at sunset at Bestival years ago
They finished with Popplagið and I had massive whitey.
10/10.
levezvosskinnyfists7@reddit
They’ve ended with Popplagið every time I’ve seen them - if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, I suppose. I’m sure it gets louder and more intense every time!
chemo92@reddit
That song is a 12 minute crescendo.
I think it's what sent me over the edge.
Then Stevie wonder came on 15 minutes later and everything was okay.
levezvosskinnyfists7@reddit
They are amazing live! I’ve seen them in all sorts of iterations from a 3-piece to about 15 members and just absolutely epic every time.
Rohobok@reddit
I only know these guys from the creepy Instagram reels using their "Untitled 9" track
Fuzzy_Cake_5928@reddit
This, but also the first time I heard Popplagið live (either Brixton or Hammersmith). So beautiful it caused physical pain.
jolivague@reddit
Was that last year? I went to the same night if so, utterly magical.
Seen them 7 times previously and always dreamt that one day they would play with an orchestra at the Royal Albert. Dreams can occasionally come true.
Unlucky-Public-2947@reddit

I saw them in Manchester before and it was all seated. I’m not normally a fan of seated gigs but it works for some. Got lucky and was second row from the front and single handedly I’ve never experienced anything so powerful and moving. Incredible time.

Coldplay in the Principality Stadium.
I was in the crowd and the lights on everyone’s wrists, the confetti raining down on the crowd, the fireworks after, it was honestly SO magical. They had songs where they asked people not to use their phones and everyone was just in the moment.
And they’re like not even one of my favourite artists. I only went because my fiancé likes them but I was absolutely utterly blown away by the atmosphere.
Incredible.

Colin Vearncombe previously known as Black (Wonderful Life) at The Stables, Wavendon.
450 seater auditorium. Tiny audience.
Colin came down off the stage, pulled up a stool and gathered everyone around him. Brilliant and intimate set.
He told the story of his major hit:-
"By the end of 1985 I had been in a couple of car crashes, my mother had a serious illness, I had been dropped by a record company, my first marriage went belly-up and I was homeless. Then I sat down and wrote this song called 'Wonderful Life'. I was being sarcastic."
Died after having a car accident at the age of 53.

Hanabie. in Birmingham last November
I used to go to gigs fairly often but always felt too anxious to really enjoy them properly and finally stopped going after I blew my hearing out for a week at a concert for a band I love (Alestorm) that wasn't actually that enjoyable because of how absurdly loud it was
After a few years and (I would like to think) a lot of personal growth I decided to give it another go on a whim with Hanabie.. I'd been planning to go to another concert the same week but it didn't work out so I spent the money I would have put towards that ticket on VIP for the Hanabie. concert, so it was my first time ever getting barrier, and that plus just how amazing of a show they put on in general and surprisingly great support act Lake Malice, just an all-around amazing show that has put me back onto concerts in general. Have Evanescence/Poppy and Spiritbox already lined up for later this year :)

I saw Ministry of Sound Classical at Liverpool Philharmonic. It was an orchestra playing 90’s dance hits and it was incredible.
Peanut0151@reddit
I saw Sun Ra in Edinburgh in 1990. I still can't believe it
RudeEntry8219@reddit
Interesting! Not the same vibe, but I saw Slim Gaillard the same year in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Peanut0151@reddit
Fabulous
RudeEntry8219@reddit
It was! I remember it: he was great fun in a very sparsely-attended event (it was a jazz festival, I believe, that was never repeated.) I see him sometimes on YouTube clips - the one where he plays the piano with the back of his hands, or in the amazing dance sequence in Hellzapoppin and I think, "I can't believe I saw that man in the flesh!"
TeHNeutral@reddit
Unreal, been meaning to listen to some of his works, what would you recommend?
Peanut0151@reddit
If you're not familiar, Jazz in Silhouette is a good introduction. My personal favourite album is Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy. You kind of find something new with every listen

The Pixies in Scarborough at The Futurist theatre, 1991. Only a couple of hundred people or so…

Unholy Alliance 2004 which was Slayer, Slipknot, Hatebreed and Mastodon at the CIA in Cardiff. Skived off school specially that Friday. Smoked soapbar and drank cider until the doors opened, it was a fucking great night.
Best recent gig was Sandwell District at Strange Brew in Bristol.
kerriwal108@reddit
My first gig at 14. Same tour but at the hammersmith appolo. Was amazing. I cpuldnt hear properly for like 3 days after
WhichStatistician810@reddit
I was at that one too. It was my first gig and I was absolutely overwhelmed before slipknot even came on stage. IIRC slipknot were a man down with Sid off for some emergency dental work or something
Larrygengurch12@reddit
Guy from college went to that tour from London. I think he broke his arm in the Slayer pit
Salgado14@reddit
The 2006 Unholy Alliance was my first show, think it was Slayer, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom and In Flames
redhotpunk@reddit
Yea it was. I was at the Birmingham gig. One of the heaviest shows I’ve seen
St2Crank@reddit
I went to that in Manchester. I was thinking about it recently, part of the reason it was probably so good was that Mastodon were the only band that got better from that point. Slipknot was the beginning of the downhill, same with Hatebreed and slayer were on a plateau for years.
Bounty_drillah@reddit
Yeah the response for Mastodon was lukewarm at the gig but I remember they played Iron Tusk and the mood changed.
I was never a big Slipknot fan but as for the rest, this was the peak of my teen metal years and everything I wanted out of a gig. Began to get into heavier stuff after that.
revolut1onname@reddit
I was at the Manchester show of that tour, amazing.

Free Muse gig at Horse Guards Parade to promote the World War Z film. Loved it.
sshiverandshake@reddit
Aw man, the three albums that followed Showbiz were great but (in my opinion) they went downhill really fast after BHAR, and now just feel incredibly one note.
I get that Matt Bellamy is obsessed with conspiracies but when that bleeds into everything, it gets monotonous and I personally start to question whether whoever's writing the songs is capable of anything else conceptually, other than copying and pasting the same tired old formula.
I genuinely don't have an axe to grind - Stockholm Syndrome might be one of my favourite songs - but I feel the same way about Taylor Swift perpetually rolling out the same worn out heartbreak / boyfriend dross. As much as it pains me to say it, I feel like Muse sort of became an alt rock Taylor Swift...
OK_LK@reddit
I absolutely loved the first three albums and saw them 15 or so times, then fell out of love with them from BHAR
I remember going to a gig and they only played 2 songs from the first 3 albums and that was it for me
I couldn't tell you the name of their later albums or songs

God what was Knebworth like? Led zeppelin are my favourite band ever and the only gig they've played when I've been born is celebration day 😂
J1nglejoints@reddit
It was the first really big event I'd been to, with a load of other bands on and a massive audience. So quite overwhelming. Zeppelin were fantastic, exactly as you'd expect them to be - Plant at the height of his flamboyance and Page weilding his Les Paul and playing it with a violin bow. Amazing to look back on.

Terrorvision 15th anniversary tour 2010. The crowd were all 90s indie kids and the warm up DJ understood the assignment and a mass dancealong to Screamager by Therapy? happened. During the interval the support act performed Terrorvision songs that the band themselves didn't do.

Biffy Clyro … pretty much all of their gigs.
Didn’t know anything about them, but my girlfriend dragged me along to one of their gigs a few years ago and it was jaw dropping.

Watch the Throne (Jay Z and Kanye) at the o2 - production was great (2 giant LED plinths with both on top them), hit after hit after hit and the energy was infectious - they played N in Paris 8/9 times in a row and everyone was more hyped each time.

I love small venues with good, small bands, and a raw sound. The top two I've been to:
Electric Swing Circus - had people dancing, jumping, and great chemistry on stage.
Secondly, Lack of Afro - amazing set of musicians on stage, all stuck around to greet people who'd come out to see, but the music and energy was just completely unmatched
Low-Confidence-1401@reddit
My two favourite gigs I've been to were the Cat Empire in Birmingham, 2009, and Henge in Gloucester at the beginning of this month. Both gigs had the most friendly, happy atmosphere. Henge were incredible live - just a very fun act all round.

Cat Empire are always a good time! Saw them a few times in Bristol years ago and loved it every time!
UrsulaSpelunking@reddit
Hello fellow Henge lover! I've probably seen them live more than any other band. They're an essential force for good on this planet - and holy shit, they can really play too.
Low-Confidence-1401@reddit

I've not been to that many gigs considering I'm 58 and I love music. I've been to some phenomenal 'classical' concerts/recitals but that's not what we're here for.
I saw Gary Numan in 2024 and he was brilliant. The band was excellent and Gary himself seemed to love every minute of being onstage. I was supposed to see him again last year but I wasn't well.
Last October, I went to see Buzzcocks/The Stranglers. I've been a Buzzcocks fan since 1978 but they were dire. I was never a particular fan of The Stranglers but I fell in love with them that night. They were phenomenal. I was singing along to songs I didn't even know. Seeing them again later this year.

Metallica when they first toured the Black album, the energy was insane. Went as a spare ticket companion.

From a musical perspective, probably queens of the Stone Age. Seen them twice, and the performance was insane - better than the recordings for sure
RacerRovr@reddit
My favourite band, I’ve seen them 3 times now. Finsbury Park in 2018, Cardiff in 2023, and Royal Albert Hall on their catacombs tour last year. RAH gig was phenomenal, they were utterly brilliant, and the orchestra made it extra special. Plus Matt Berry making a surprise guest appearance on the organ at the end!
UrsulaSpelunking@reddit
Never seen them live - probably top of my remaining bucket list. Their Glastonbury set from a couple of years ago is the best live performance I've ever seen on TV!
caldawggy13@reddit
Saw them 2013 at download and was one of my most disappointing gigs I've ever attended. The lineup was weird, between motorhead and maiden, and the weather was awful.
Saw them headline sziget in Budapest the next year, and is probably top 3 all time. Holy fuck, the sunshine and headline spot really made the world of difference. Seen them since and always smashed it, but this one was special.
Max1357913@reddit
That’s interesting, I’m seeing them again this summer supporting System of a Down, so shall see how being support impacts the performance
I’ve seen them at their own show headlining, and headlining a festival currently
caldawggy13@reddit
Honestly I don't think it had anything to do with them, other than being sandwich between legends, and the crowd maybe not reacting the same as Motorhead and maiden. And the rain was absolutely side ways fucked during their set. Bad timing rather than bad performance I think.

Crowd was very WTF? Even throwing full cans of beer at them, bounced off the guitar. I - recent immigrant from Canada was so mortified for the performers. About 3 or 4 songs in they started singing a song - annoyingly I cannot remember what song - and the crowd went MENTAL. Lifted off my feet as the crowd surged forwards and back again, delerious. Toss up between the Rolling Stones supported by the Verve in 2018, or Paul McCartney in 2018. The energy the Rolling Stones had, it was incredible, and such a fun show. The Paul McCartney one had no support act, just Paul and his guitar or uke and backup musicians. It felt really intimate and he was wonderful.

Prince at the O2. We didn't have great seats (Prince himself labelled our section 'the freaks in the backyard'), but there was a part of the show when he was alone at a piano not too far away from us playing through a medley of his hits. It was like an out of body experience.

I have been to 2 amazing free concerts
Live 8 in Hyde park, nearly 12 hours of amazing music from some of the worlds biggest artists such as U2, Madonna, Paul McCartney.
Tickets were free for entering a text competition.
Madness in the centre of Oxford Street, they closed the street down and put a concert together for a few hundred people max, did over an hour set iirc
Tickets were free, they were won by entering a competition on Absolute radio when it launched.

Madness would be one of my runners up - Colosseum, Carlyon Bay (now demolished) 1980.

I was a massive Rage Against The Machine fan in the 90's but never had the chance to see them live. Then they broke up. Fast forward to 2009 and via a social media campaign they broke the X Factor Christmas chart dominance to beat Joe McElderry to Number 1.
The following year they got back together for a string of dates and I flew from Manchester to Dublin for less than 24 hours just to catch them live. Such an awesome gig!
Kent_Doggy_Geezer@reddit
I have two. SummerXS on July 1st 1991, and Madonna’s Blonde Ambition on July 21st 1990. They both rocked.

A band I loathe - U2 along with Fire Engines at Valentinos, Edinburgh. (Just had my car impounded outside the site). A weird affair - Fire Engines doing their usual 15 minute set, a showing of National Lampoons Animal House and then U2 who were pretty impressive. Early days mind.

Pink Floyd at Live-8. Obviously an insane line up, but this was the highlight. Short set, but still. Incredible.
Best - Ozzy’s last gig. The lineup (if you’re into metal) will never be beaten, but the most insane bit was the atmosphere. There have been a ton, hard to narrow it down, but a top 3 at a thought could be:
I saw Porcupine Tree in 2010 during their touring of The Incident. It wasn't a great gig. Maybe because they knew they were going to split, maybe because I didn't like The Incident and how many songs they played off it.
But this Steven Wilson gig was something else. He was, in my opinion, at the height of his solo career. On top of that he played a bunch of Porcupine Tree songs. The whole gig was around 2.5-3 hours long, it was incredible.
I didn't care much for Jack Dalton, don't listen to them, but this was Caligula's Horse before they become known, their first gigs outside of Australia. They were raw and incredible, giving it their all.
Raketkanon, who I didn't know, tore up the stage in an incredible set that I still remember to this day.
Shining were at the height of their Blackjazz era, with a frontman who effortlessly switched between guitar, singing, and saxophone solos. The whole gig start to finish was endless energy, I left buzzing.
Two prog giants in one gig, both playing full sets, was unreal. Opeth were touring off the back of Watershed, an incredible album, and Dream Theater were still going strong even if their albums were a little samey at this point.
I knew nothing about Big Elf but thought they did a great set. Unexpect were chaotic, but I expected that (it was not unexpected). Wasn't sure how their music would translate to live and, well, it didn't. They needed a much better setup. Still, it was a band who only ever did 3 gigs total in the UK so I'm happy I got to see them.
In fairness, I love this gig for a second reason, and that's for what it brought about. This tour was called Progressive Nation, organised by Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater's drummer). They did a few incredible lineup tours in 2008/09 before deciding to do what was my favourite music event anywhere in the world: Progressive Nation at Sea 2014. It almost ruined festivals for me because I can never find a lineup again as good where I liked nearly all the bands.

Il Divo in 2006 at the NEC. Really on point, performed beautifully, atmosphere was great. Was a really poignant concert to me as I was going through a hard time, and it lifted me out of a funk.

Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park in 2012, won VIP tickets in a prize draw and was treated with a near-3-hour set that only ended because they switched the power off during his second encore after he breached curfew, having already brought on Paul McCartney for his first encore.
Babymetal at Sonisphere Festival in 2014, playing to a crowd of indifferent and skeptical metalheads and using their 30-minute set to bust down the door and prove they aren't just a gimmick.
Zeal and Ardor at The Fleece in Bristol back in 2018 were awesome, a band that sounds like nothing else I've ever heard. One of those experiences that completely shifts your perception of what music can be.

U2 supported by the killers and starsailor, in Cardiff. Was a bright sunny day, so was a bit disappointed that the roof was closed, until the light shows started.
RubyLemon24@reddit
George Michael in around 1988 just after he split from Wham (Andrew Ridgely made a guest appearance) and Michael Kiwanuka at the Royal Albert Hall (perfect accoustics).
SirGranular@reddit
Bruce Springsteen at the NEC Birmingham, i believe that was May 1999.....I thought it was a bit earlier.... what a gig. Non stop from start to finish. The full E Street lineup. We were 4 or 8 rows from the front.
Enough-Ad3818@reddit
The Wonder Years, Stylus Leeds, in 2022.
Incredible live band.

This is a hard one! U2 In Cardiff, oasis at knebworth, Damien rice in Birmingham before people knew him much and , R.E.M to name a few!
kingoffuckery@reddit
The police at Manchester, i bought the tickets off ebay and the gig got postponed for almost 18 months but the seller told me the tickets were still valid. I sat there the opening song with tears in my eyes thinking I would never see them play live but there i was.
Value for money was probably the pussycat dolls, the supporting act was neyo and some woman called lady gaga. I had no idea who she was so I asked my niece who informed me she was currently number 1 with poker face
haggis_catcher-@reddit
Coldplay at hampden was amazing
tsdesigns@reddit
Honestly, probably something small scale at king tuts in Glasgow - maybe Hundred reasons + Ruben, or maybe Frank Turner.
Metric was a phenomenal gig too, although the Glasgow garage wasn't the best venue for it.
sconebore@reddit
As a teenager in the 90s, I went to some great gigs - REM, Radiohead, Suede, Pulp, so many more...... just a brilliant time for live music, what a vibe!
Recently - Orbit Culture, such a tight band live! Phenomenal live performance.
mikebirty@reddit
I don't really do music so probably not the best person to answer this. I do go to gigs with friends now and again when they have spare tickets when someone pulls out but don't really care for the music.
And then I went to see Green Day two years ago. WOW. That was a good night, they were fantastic.
unalivexmastree@reddit
Faithless supported by Groove Armarda at the UEA in Norwich. Late 90s or early 2000s.
caldawggy13@reddit
Not the best, but for something slightly different, one of the most fun gigs I've ever been to, especially in the last 10 years, a band called Thumpasaurus. Tiny venue, mental ADHD disco spacey vibes, entire crowd was locked in from top to bottom just throwing shapes.
PretendPop8930@reddit
Pearl Jam Cardiff 2000.
Blur Glastonbury 2009.
Both are the only times that I've cried with happiness at concerts.

2023, Wembley OVO Arena for Lordi, Baby Metal and Sabaton
2022, Wembley Arena for Weezer, Fall Out Boy and Green Day
All of them were phenomenal, amazing music, incredible theatrics and great energy in the crowds at each one!
tx1998@reddit
Probably a tad cliche but Oasis at Wembley last year. Absolutely brought the house down and hadn’t lost any of their energy in almost 20 years being apart. I’ve been to a few gigs similar but I think the hype combined with the actual atmosphere really clinched it for me.
ArcTan_Pete@reddit
back in the day, there used to be an Easter country music festival at wembley.
One memorable year, I saw Billy Joe Spears, Crystal Gayle, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Don Williams, Emmylou Harris and others.... for those who are not familiar with country music, these are some of the great names of country and this was in their heyday
YoNoHuckleberryDude@reddit
P!nk on the 'Summer Carnival' tour in 2023. What a show.
Cherryade123@reddit
Recently - Squeeze were supporting Madness at the Brighton Centre and I’d always been a fan. They were brilliant. I know I shouldn’t say it but I thought they’d be old!
Unexpected - one of my ex bosses bought his daughter some One Direction tickets when they were in their peak of fame but she didn’t want to go, so I bought them off him and took my daughter to see them at Wembley Stadium with 5 seconds of summer supporting. They were both absolutely spot on and it was the first time I’d been to Wembley. The screaming though! My ears were ringing

Red Hot Chili Peppers at City of Manchester Stadium (now the Etihad). They were supported by Chicks on Speed (shite) and James Brown (awesome).
Leeds Festival 2004 was pretty good too, Green Day, Placebo, Dropkick Murphys, Supergrass, think a largely unknown Arctic Monkeys were on a smaller stage that weekend too.
capcrunch217@reddit
Linkin Park at the O2 Arena in November 2014. Last show of the tour, got impromptu last minute tickets and met a few friends after uni - we all ended up on the barrier. They pulled fans onto the stage whilst playing their last song Bleed It Out and I was one of the lucky ones. Got to head bang with Chester and got a drum stick from Rob. I’ve seen hundreds of gigs, but nothing comes close to that. The the view of all those fans was unreal.

My first ever experience of live music (not with parents) was Knebworth 1996. I was 17 and it was amazing as you’d expect. The queues for everything were massive though. Music was amazing.
But the best ever live music was seeing The Egg at about 3am in the Rabbit Hole at Glastonbury in 2016.

Prodigy, Battersea Power Station. I was off my head and it was a legendary banger.
BingeLurker@reddit
Oasis at Wembley last year. Fluked tickets in the pre-sale they had the Friday before everyone was having issues with Ticketmaster.
Honestly I haven’t done anything like it. Got into the front standing area (no idea how, just got lucky) and everyone just seemed so amazed they got there that it was a proper friendly atmosphere, none of the trouble I’d been a little worried about.
The band were on top form, setlist was chosen well, and Little By Little was the unexpected star of the show - moment of my life having the crowd all singing along.
WHEN they do more shows, I’d highly recommend if you can get tickets.

I've seen Muse in their prime, a very pissed-off Nine Inch Nails, and Rammstein on a tour that was both their greatest hits in a musical sense *and* in terms of pyrotechnics.
I'd say my favourites were both fairly recent: Clutch at The Roundhouse in December and Cardiacs at Electric Brixton last month.
TrialsandFibulations@reddit
Overall, Rammstein in Cardiff
Musically, Nine Inch Nails in Manchester

Enter Shikari at the Barrowlands around 2019, or Kneecap at the Barrowlands in 2025. Both phenomenal atmospheres, with a brilliant sense of community and togetherness in the crowd.

One of my most favourite gigs was seeing Jamie Lenman in Belfast in 2019. My girlfriend and I hadn't been dating long and it was our first gig date night together. The mix of his solo stuff with old tracks from Reuben was such a blast.

Best gig I've been to was AFI in Manchester at the height of Sing the Sorrow fame but it was still at Academy (forgot which one). Small and personal. Brilliant audience. When I went on my arse in the mosh pit I was picked up immediately by a dozen people asking if I was ok. AFI fans are cool.
