Where do we stand on the electrical car parking spaces in car parks?

ESH. Its for charging electric cars. If neither of you are charging, neither should be parked there.

As an EV owner without a home charger, I rely on those. Doing that can cause a huge amount of trouble for people in my situation, especially if charge is running low there's no others in range.

I don't disagree but in my defence, I live in a small coastal town up north and EV cars aren't really a thing, I think I've seen them being used a handful of times since I've lived here

I popped into a motorway service station last week. Of the 8 EV spaces, 2 were occupied by non EV cars because they were thr nearest free spaces to the front door.

Parking in an EV space and hooking up to the charger when you otherwise weren’t planning to is a morally grey area (as it could inconvenience someone who does need the charger). But what you both did is just straight up wrong.

More importantly though, if it's just at the back of the car park with the rest, it's not an issue.

They're disabled people, not incapable. They're walking/scooting around Tesco, an extra 20-30 meters isn't changing much.

20 or 30 meters can be a lot for a disabled person. When my central vertigo is bad it can take me 10 minutes to go the 10m to the nearest bathroom. Obviously I'm not going to tesco in that condition I am just trying to highlight disability can be more challenging than people realise.

Check the restrictions if there are any where you go, but my preferred supermarket has "Electric Vehicles Only" painted on the floor and a parking restriction sign which google found offensive enough to blur underneath one of the bigger flag signs that say the spaces were for charging. If the parking sign says for charging only, then that's the only thing that is acceptable.

As u/ashyjay says though, they're crap chargers so I don't bother using them - I barely got back enough charge to cover what I'd used driving there last time. I do park in other bays though, because someone might need them.

I think you're definitely in the wrong, and he might be as well depending on what the rules are for that bay.

To be honest, I refuse to believe any of these spots are intended to be for EV parking rather than EV charging only. It would entirely defeat the purpose of the spots.

EVs don't need special parking spaces, they need charging spaces.

If it doesn't state EV charging specifically, I feel like that's an obvious oversight, rather than anything intentional.
