I'd like to enter my rig for the "worst cockpit" award.

That bad boy would look like a million bucks with a wipe down and about 4 coats of meguires supreme shine
Cardinal_350@reddit
I'm guessing you never sat in a Ford Aeromax can over. They were horrible
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
Didn't those have air ride on the cab?
Cardinal_350@reddit
Spring ride all the way. Messed my back up for a good few years driving a single axle
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
Good thing I've committed to putting airbags under this cab then.
driver004@reddit
I like it. It has personality
ooglieguy0211@reddit
I love cabovers! Mine is a walk-in sleeper with a double bunk though so a flat floor with no wrap around dash.

Refresh my old and failing memory. I had a 4970 International for 8ish years. I also had the blue brake valve. Was that for tractor brake release only?
pstbltit85@reddit
Guess I haven't lost all my marbles yet...
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
Yep. And the yellow one sets both blue and red.
kakarota@reddit
Lol reminds me of working in the farm. Imo its pretty fucking clean
DJs_Second_Life@reddit
Thanks for posting that. It brought back great memories. When I started at my local fire department, that was the cab of our water tenders, right down down to the plumber’s clamps that held split rear end switch on the stick shift.
44,000 pounds. No power steering. I think all modern rigs rigs are automatic because they want you to keep your hands steering wheel.
Weaving through traffic, turning, shifting gears, and getting on the airhorn was one of my favorite things. We’re not supposed to enjoy it as much as I’m sure I did.
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
You should see the air horns i have for this. 3 ship horns fed by a 1/2 inch pipe.

I resigned from my position after 34 years, during Covid. I was a part-time employee and I just needed to focus on my business. Everything changed during the pandemic.
The station is about a quarter mile from me and I’m on a major artery. You can tell how excited the guys get by how much they get on the airhorn, by the time they get to my intersection. Those boys love their airhorn and I did too.
Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
Nope that’s really cool. 😎
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
When i say worst I mean dirtiest and most parts missing.
Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
Nah man it’s a work truck. I’ll take some pictures of mine when he gets out of the shop in a couple of weeks
nuget102@reddit
This may be unpopular, but I actually like that design a lot. Everything is within easy reach, the gauges can all be read at a quick glance. Maybe that's coming from the fact I'm only 5' 4" though and find myself reaching even in my Cascadia.
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
I have no qualms with it. I just wish it came with cupholders.
nuget102@reddit
If you have a friend with a 3D printer you could have some made up for you, I haven't been in a GMC cabover, so space might be a bit hard to find for a cupholder :p
Stay motivated and get it fixed up, it'll be an awesome rig once it's finished.
Round-Guarantee4948@reddit
No DEF
Justin_peacemaker@reddit
Looks similar to the cabover jimmy I learned how in
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
Did you learn in an Astro? This is an 79 model.
Justin_peacemaker@reddit
Mine was an 81, Dad got it new and I did my first 500K in it. *v92t, 13 spd and a highly developed left calf muscle for double clutch.
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
I'm amazed you survived that long in one. My odometer only shows 469k.
Justin_peacemaker@reddit
We traded it for a volvo with series 60 in 89, now I live in a 24 Kenny with auto everything.
I wish you the very best in bringing that lady back to life and service.
warwgn@reddit
I want to clean that interior so bad.
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
You should have seen the carpet i ripped out of it when I bought it.
warwgn@reddit
Auto detailing is a hobby for me. I would’ve gone to town on that carpet with my Bissell SpotClean Pro stain extractor, and some Chemical Guys carpet cleaning formula.
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
I dunno. It was pretty brown when I got it and it left the factory black. It also had holes worn in it and rife with mouse poop.
ResidentComplaint19@reddit
Sounds like a great time if you ever have to train someone in that bad boy
Ok_Bathroom_3411@reddit
Thats a badass cab, just clean it man. Thats all on you
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
It's been mothballed for the last 3 years or so. I'm trying to get back to fixing it.
Old-Swimming2799@reddit
I see you got the patented tarp rot hole cover going on.
All the gmc cabovers near me look like this inside but are polished up looking like a million bucks on the outside.
Johnny_Rascal2@reddit (OP)
It's covering up the shifter hole to keep the birds out. The sparrows keep getting in and pooping on the dashboard.
