What are some memorable things from the early 2000's?

Hey all, I'm currently writing a screenplay based in 2002 in the middle/northern area of England, and was wondering - if you could have anything from the early 2000's represented or shown in a film, what would it be? All kinds of things welcome (e.g. chocolate bars, cars, tv shows)

'Alcopops' like Reefs, Smirnoff Ice etc.

Gatecrasher nightclub and nightlife in general. Dancefloors we’re packed with people actually dancing. Queuing to get in venues. Drinks on offer 2-4-1, free shots. Smoking inside venues.

I'm feeling very nostalgic for the fuel strike. Managed to get a few days off school for that.

Yeah this bullshit. You got one by dialling a number advertised in the back of a magazine.
Having said that- Lads Mags. Heat magazine

Height of Blairism. Felt like there was a positivity to the future.

The war with Iraq? 9/11 had just happened. War was coming. Terrorism had been ushered in. For me it wasn’t a positivity to the future.
Thomasinarina@reddit
In 1997?
rice_fish_and_eggs@reddit
1997 would be the very early 2000's...
breadandbutter123456@reddit
What was in 1997?

Suppose it depends how 'early 2000s' we're talking. They may have just meant the year 2000 (which I remember as being generally positive, but I was 8 so it would do)

The op said the screenpay was based in 2002.

Peak reality TV - Big Brother, Pop Idol, Wife Swap, I'm a Celeb, and many other less popular formats regularly drew 10 million viewers. These programmes were still relatively new concepts and sometimes felt quite edgy and exciting. They've been on TV for many years now and have grown predictable but not then.

Denim jackets came back about year 2000.
By 2002 literally everyone had one.
Double denim was everywhere

Nah some of us went down the mosher route and were about baggy jeans and skate shoes and studded belts and nail polish haha

Also. For some reason early 2000s Puma as a brand for trainers had a massive boom in certain area of the north.
sprints, romas, easy rider.
Think similar to reebok classics of the late 90s.
And nike dunks and Jordan 1s over the past decade
Successful-Ad-367@reddit
I was 8 and living in the south west… might not be the best help as I don’t know what the north/south divide of the time was like..
World Cup 2002 was HUGE. England flags absolutely everywhere. My school let us watch the matches before lessons / sacrifice lessons if they clashed. Everyone I knew wore an England football shirt with the iconic red stripe down it.
Music was decent. It was before the mainstream media ‘killed’ rock music - so you’d still hear bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Sum41, Green Day, Avril Lavigne, Busted etc on the radio.
Every boy spiked their hair up. The David-Beckham-Faux-Hawk was especially popular.
The cars were way better and actually suited to our roads. No oversized SUV. Biggest you’d see regularly was an estate mondeo or similar.
Tv shows were fun. After school I’d watch the likes of Dexter’s Lab, Johnny Bravo, Courage the cowardly Dog, 50/50, Get Your Own Back etc or play some PS1 (didn’t have a PS2 yet) games like spyro, tomb raider, tony hawks.
I know I was only 8…. But things were definitely better.

Really ugly clothes - it was a struggle haha. 2001-2003 had this really niche fashion that was different to the 90s or rest of the 00 decade.

Subways started popping up.
As a student at the time we bloody loved it. It was a bit of a cooler alternative to the standard mcds kfc ect

Wood chip on the wall, the fountain down the road, that sort of thing.
But no; on a serious note I hit 16 in 2002 and have very vivid memories of this era. Amongst my age group it was all about mobile phones as the hype and novelty of them was really just peaking. Nokia 3310 era into the flip-phone/clamshell fad.
Vauxhall Corsas/Citroen Saxo’s/Peugot 206’s were everywhere and pretty much everyone my age learning to drive was gassing for one of these fashionable vehicles. You couldn’t go more than about 2 minutes without seeing a blue BSM Vauxhall Corsa on the road.

Nokia 3310, with the replaceable phone cover.

If you are writing a screenplay, it's worth knowing it's "2000s" not "2000's".
You might want to go through the wikipedia pages for the years to get a decent list:

The interest suddenly became far more useful and accessible. I’d been online since 96 but I remember that in 2002 we had a ruby iMac and they were sold on being quick and easy to get online. I managed to organise my wedding abroad through email but I still had to go to the travel agents to buy plane tickets which were still written out by hand as I recall. Anyway, there was an office down the road that was also full of different coloured iMacs so I guess to me it’s iMacs and that clear coloured plastic aesthetic. But this was Brighton so a rather different aspect to the midlands and north.
