I am about to leave reddit

The platform is absolute garbage. The aggressive, power-tripping moderators make the user experience insufferable with constant automatic bans. It's exactly why I refuse to invest a single cent into this failing social media site. I'll likely just migrate to Lemmy.
MarketCrache@reddit
I'm visiting less and less. Mods have full control of the subs related to the country I'm in, immediately blocking any post dealing with certain issues. And the IQ of posts and replies has jumped off a cliff.
I use X a lot now. Don't listen to what people say; it's completely down to who you follow and who you don't. You can build up an excellent circle. Also, virtually no censorship.
anadem@reddit
Did you try BlueSky? Not pushing that, just wondering. I dropped twitter when supertwit took over, went to BS but don't go there often
MarketCrache@reddit
BS has a hard woke agenda bias. I don't need a DEI echo chamber.

you should check out Mastodon.
It's a FOSS, decentralized, as well as federated, alternative to Xitter.

You can even bridge to Bluesky via Bridgy Fed

I commented in a sub today (combatfootage) and received a message that said something along the lines of, "to comment in this subreddit, you must send us a message that says you've read the rules. Make the title "Read Rules" and the body "acknowledge".
I don't know if it's just me, but I find this ridiculous. Why do they feel the need to have a form of "sign here"?
And no, I don't feel like complying with this made up process by random internet people. Just be the mods you signed up to be and remove offending comments with a citation of the broken rule. And/Or message people that join your sub asking them to read the rules.
I replied with my thoughts on the matter and was immediately perma banned.
lunarwolf2008@reddit
permaban for questioning is silly.
however in bigger subs, having some sort of requirement to comment (usually sitewide karma) is practically a must because bots and spammers move faster than mods can
Loggerdon@reddit
I’m permanently banned from about 20 subs. I was banned on 14 subs in one day for citing demographic info on China. I think there’s some kind of network who want to shape American opinion.
mpv-chief@reddit
I made a similar site called Feebospace, it's mainly meant for fandom discussion, it has boards similar to subreddits, but you can post forums, questions, and spaces (you can also post feeds and spaces outside of boards). I moderate what's posted, but it's void of users....anyways, you could take a look if you'd like: https://feebospace.com
anadem@reddit
Like all the alternatives, sadly

I was curious, have you ever considered potential federation?

It would probably also help bring in more users.
Akira_OG@reddit
Not mine, but https://www.oddsrabbit.com/ , no politics, no drama, no power hungry moderators. If this gets bigger its the best alternative for Reddit imo.
anadem@reddit
"Terms of Use" includes "Follow community guidelines and moderator instructions".. no drama .. yet!
think I'll skip it thank you
topselection@reddit
These attempts at Reddit alternatives really shouldn't try to emulate the chumbox design. Reddit can get away with it because it's well established. But looking at that site, it looks far more dead than it probably actually is. The landing page has two posts when it could house 20. Lemmy has this problem too. When I signed up I turned off the chumbox look and it now doesn't look so dead.
MarketCrache@reddit
Cheers.
The-Iron-Ass@reddit
Crazy that I'm being recommend this sub right after admitting to myself that I hate this website.
Crafty-Lavishness26@reddit
It used to be fun and informative. Now it's just stressful.
BigDadNads420@reddit
I always wonder how so many people have such a hard time not being banned or actioned on by mods. Then I look at those peoples profiles and its almost always a collection of the most obviously bad/suspect behavior you think of.
If I was a mod I would glance at OPs profile, assume its a shitty bot of some sort, and ban it without a second thought.
Proton_Optimal@reddit
Block these to avoid auto-bans
PacRimRod@reddit
Who cares. Good Riddance.
Xerxero@reddit
Moderation attracts a certain type of person. Other platforms have similar issues.
But I get where you coming from. The reasons I got banned were such bullshit from time to time. And appealing is a waste of time
AVDLatex@reddit
It attracts HOA Board types.
143019@reddit
It's not just that the Mods are power tripping. It's that they ban arbitrarily while others are out here violating terms left and right with impunity.
MarketCrache@reddit
Oy!
DrDirt90@reddit
So true
Dude_jelly43@reddit
Automatic bans are kind of a secret blessing. I got a ban notification from a subreddit I had never visited because I visited another sub reddit. I'm like thank God I'm too old to give a crap about no drama between subreddit boards. Shit I'm disabled and stuck at home so I have the time to digest it all, but Id rather play video games with that time instead.
NonnoBomba@reddit
My experience is that a lot of "generalist" subs match your description perfectly. I try to keep myself to the few "specialized" communities I actually care about, and having civil discussions there is far easier, there's a lot less power-tripping users and mods.
DrDirt90@reddit
Just leave and don't be a drama queen.
RedditAlternatives-ModTeam@reddit
Comments must be civil. What does this mean? No racism, homophobia, blasphemy, arguments, drama, trolls, insults, slurs, automated rage bots, political attacks, profile fishing, etc.
Use your best judgement. If something feels rude, it probably is rude.
Delicious_Ease2595@reddit
I wish to leave 100% but few communities I follow still want to stay here.

FeeAccomplished4117@reddit
Have any more invite codes?
IMDXLNC@reddit
I would too but there's nothing as large as this, unfortunately. I gave up even trying to start my own general forums because getting the volume would be impossible.
SquircleSquirtle@reddit
what is it about Reddit that you care most about?
if it's simply the content, you can add .RSS to any subreddit or collection and that gives you the raw feed which you can build your own algorithm around
(I mean you don't have to literally build it as turnkey open source solutions already exist)
if it's the comments (that's what it is for me) ya I don't know how to get around this either other than internalizing that most of the comments here are botted... but even knowing that it's still kind of fun and hard to quit
I was able to quit everything else...YouTube, twitter, discord... but something about Reddit man I can't quit it
NikEy@reddit
Give mirage a shot. Much better than Lemmy.
3jake@reddit
Do a little research into how to scrub out all your old comments and posts first - that content (which you created) is how Reddit makes their money.
Burn your history to the ground, delete your account, and bounce.
Pamasich@reddit
That hurts users more than the admins. If they want your content, they can just restore it. They've done so before iirc.
Palnubis@reddit
even this group is just garbage man, the moderators remove my content like its a sport.
FeeAccomplished4117@reddit
I've received two admin warnings for something I didn't do -- but have reported and downvoted other people for doing. When I tried to appeal they told me my "ban" would remain in place. I was never banned from anything. Humans don't work at reddit anymore. Aaron is rolling rn
habarnam@reddit
You don't need to tell us. Just do it.
WanderingInAVan@reddit
I have been thinking of just saying fuck it and exclusively working on my personal projects only.
This place isn't fun except for maybe the minidisc and Coleman subs. And Instagram keeps trying to rage bate me with threads suggestions.
