I’ll have an overnight layover in Budapest with about 10–12 hours to explore the city.

What are the absolute must-see spots if I’m short on time? I’d love a quick but memorable route or highlights.
Also, what are the must-try local foods? Open to anything, but especially interested in iconic Hungarian dishes or something quick and authentic.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Have a round at the Danube by ship, you will see the main things from the best view.

Oh, and the food: gulyás soup, túrós csusza (noodle with cottage chease and bacon), and kürtőskalács (chimney cake). Have a nice trip.

Definitely see the Parliament building, it's stunning at night. You can get a nice view from the castle hill. For food the most iconic are goulash (it's a soup), paprikás csirke (Chicken paprikash), kürtőskalács (chimney cake) and lángos.

Is it tonight? Cause you will most probably have the time of your life with people partying in the streets.
Iconic dish of the day is “narancsos bukta”, it is a tasty orange-flavoured dessert.

If you're planning a trip tonight, it's either going to be the biggest party that Budapest has ever seen, or a revolt
Good luck tho!!
