My partner has been a Tetris 99 addict for years. I’d say that’s the best one.
RemotePlankton1251@reddit
Tetrisphere (if this counts) on the 64. The music, combo building and block chain reactions were like digital crack.

GameBoy
Humble_Ladder@reddit (OP)
I never had a gameboy, man I was so jealous of the kids who did.
MrSmokii@reddit
there's still time
TotallyNotRobotEvil@reddit
Same, although that thing ate batteries I guess. Even if I managed to get my hands on one then, I don’t see my family shelling out the money for the batteries it needed.
KASega@reddit
I don’t know I have a game boy color and I use it specifically for Tetris and I rarely replace batteries!
Rough-Instruction-29@reddit
I remember asking for a game boy for Christmas and my parents bought a Nintendo for the family to share. It was nice and all but damn, I really wanted a game boy
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
Thats just wrong
Ineedavodka2019@reddit
This is correct. Original game boy.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
This all the way. 290,000 points is my high score.
ihatecatboys@reddit
My mom got absolutely fucking addicted to GameBoy Tetris. It consumed her downtime for ages, she had her own GameBoy for it.
Select-Protection-75@reddit
100%. Forgot the name, but the mode where you only could get Tetris’s and the little man with the violin came out and played when you complete it was so satisfying and haven’t seen it replicated as good anywhere else. Anyone remember what this mode was called?
LeftHandedGuitarist@reddit
The Game Boy Colour version is a nice little upgrade.
KASega@reddit
But when the background changes to purple it’s harsh!
platypus_farmer42@reddit
I’ve been so tempted to buy a refurbished gameboy off eBay or Amazon for a while now.
StNic54@reddit
I’ll never forget finishing this for the first time on GameBoy. Maybe that screen damaged my vision, maybe it didn’t. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to pass the time on long trips.
Illustrious-Good5086@reddit
When I hear the Tetris soundtrack in my head it's that crunchy ass game boy version.
Cheston1977@reddit
This is the only correct answer.

I’m so glad someone else thinks so! I loved Dr. Mario.
FRESH_TWAAAATS@reddit
Tetris 99 is so good.
Brym@reddit
Maybe not the most common choice, but I like the version that is in the Tetris and Dr. Mario pack for the super Nintendo. It has the good music, multiplayer that is easier to facilitate than the game boy version, and as a bonus you also get a good version of Dr. Mario.
FRESH_TWAAAATS@reddit
Mixed Match! Love that cart. The sound a tetris would make in the head to head mode was the best part. They were so many points and that sound either put your opponent on notice OR told them you were catching up.
ihatecatboys@reddit
Anybody else play Tetrinet back in the day?
BritOnTheRocks@reddit
The one I coded myself in 2002 to prove I could do it. I called it YAVOT (yet another version of Tetris).
thefightingmongoose@reddit
I cant believe no one has said cube tetris from GameCube.
It had the best battle mode.
Hitting that cube combo and spamming your opponents seen just as they were about to do the same to you..... chefs kiss

Tengen Tetris was my favorite. (It had the best music!) A local video store had it available for rent and I'd pick it up from time to time. I never found the Tengen version anywhere else and never had an opportunity to buy it.
Humble_Ladder@reddit (OP)
Same, local corner store rented out a Tengen cartridge.
SQL215@reddit
Original one of course with Tetris Worlds on Gamecube being number 2.

Spectrum Holobyte's Tetris Classic released in 1992 for IBM-PC DOS.
Russian fairytale artwork and incredible music pushes this one above and beyond every other version.
jaxsonMiss@reddit
There's a version called Tetris Attack! that came out much later this is absolutely addictive. It's not classic Tetris but is the best version of that style of puzzle game I've ever played.
jjmawaken@reddit
The original on NES is great... Tetris 99 is pretty cool and so is Tetris Effect on a VR headset.

They have been already mentioned, but it has to be Tetris Worlds or the VR Tetris Effect. Both have some amazing visuals and music. I can't decide which takes first place since both are amazing.
