What's the best own brand of loo roll?
Posted by Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 100 comments
Sure, the multi-millionaires amongst us use Andrex or the like, but for the rest of us peasants, a shop's own-brand loo roll will have to do. So which do you use?
Personally, I use Aldi Softest Quilted, and I'm quite happy with it. But I've heard murmers that Tesco Luxury Soft is actually better. What say you?

Costco - Kirkland
PerLin107@reddit
This stuff is the GOAT of toilet rolls
bbgun24@reddit
By a country mile!!
Ran out a few weeks ago and picked up Asda shades. It was like tracing paper in comparison and we used that for years before moving to Kirkland.
Arranorak@reddit
Tracing paper good old Izal š
Midnightraven3@reddit
Our whole family only use Kirkland, if anyone is suddenly low on supplies we all pitch some in until the next Costco trip. I hope they never change it
Zal_17@reddit
Wiping with a new and inferior brand, and you accidentally give yourself a prostate exam
corysphotos19@reddit
Costco is expensive.cheaper to get the 40 odd rolls in home bargains,
Chelz91@reddit
The only answer
DuResQ@reddit
3ply or No Buy.
woody__94@reddit
Asda shades
West_Guarantee284@reddit
I go to Asda just for the loo roll.
jimmywhereareya@reddit
Me too... Lol
West_Guarantee284@reddit
I bought my dad some, instead of his usual extortionate charmin, and was personally offended when he didn't rate it as highly as I did.
DrElusive@reddit
Wonderful stuff. Perfect for covering in 50 shades of brown
MyAlt4WomanyStuff@reddit
Tesco Luxury Soft Quilted
JohnCasey3306@reddit
Sainsbury's "luxury" rolls for us
Reesy@reddit
Same! Not expensive either
DrElusive@reddit
Pardon me, Sir -- I believe your morale just popped out.
Therashser@reddit
Tesco luxury soft can be like sandpaper at times.
o_sooperstar_o@reddit
I use the Nikky brand for a few years now. Added bonus for smelling nice too.
Spottyjamie@reddit
I buy andrex, its always discounted in one of the supermarkets or prime
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
NOT a shop's own brand
Professor-Woland@reddit
Tesco coconut flavour is my go to, soft enough, decent purchase, nice little ambient scent
digibawb@reddit
...flavour?
fastestman4704@reddit
Yeah your butt can actually taste things.
WormsEatShit@reddit
I think mine can only taste chilli
LIRFC@reddit
You taste it before? Don't you..? Don't you!?
SchoolDramatic482@reddit
Forbidden bounty
YarrlieThePirate@reddit
Has anyone ever noticed a difference between any? (Barring single ply)
I donāt think my arsehole is sensitive enough for feeling a difference of softness etc
Obviously different for the ladies but if I lived alone Iād use the cheapest stuff available⦠all does same job
BertBlenkinsop@reddit
I don't give a shitš¤£
Slapped91@reddit
maxmarioxx_@reddit
Used to get Andrex but then l think they changed and made the sheets too thin. I changed to Cushelle which l find super soft and proper thickness.
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
So you're on of the multi-millionaires referred to in the OP
maxmarioxx_@reddit
Sorry l didn't read the full post. I just wanted to throw Andrex under the bus for enshitifying their toilet roll. š Pissed me off.
I also buy M&S so hopefully that makes me a better, more grounded, millionaire.
nickymoo@reddit
Tesco used to do ādouble rollsā but theyāve replaced them with ālong rollsā so I use long rolls as thereās more paper on them
Karl-Pilkinghorn@reddit
I buy these and I have a wicker holder to keep spares in. When they brought out these double rolls, I had to wedge them in. Now putting the so-called ālong rollsā that replaced the double rolls is like throwing a sausage down the high street. And theyāre more expensive.
nickymoo@reddit
Sorry, I should have stated I get the long roles as there is more paper on them compared to normal rolls, as double rolls are no longer available.
Karl-Pilkinghorn@reddit
Yes me too, I bought the double rolls and theyāre the ones that were massive. They sneakily replaced these with the ālong rollsā - same packaging, same number of rolls, but hiked the price up. Shrinkflation and enshittification⦠literally.
AnythingPeachy@reddit
My mother in law does regular pilgrimages to Waitrose just to buy their toilet roll.
GoDeathValley@reddit
How regular is she?
remmy84@reddit
Nicky home bargains. Lived in India and would send boxes of this stuff across. Itās awesome
Additional-Switch912@reddit
We use who gives a crap and Amazon basics when I run out of who gives a crap till the next delivery
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
NOT a shop's own brand!
Bitter_Tradition_938@reddit
Are you trying to find the best bog roll or doing a marketing study for the shop that employs you?!
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
No, but the question was about a shop's own brand, so answering with other things is ot relevant to the question
Bitter_Tradition_938@reddit
So marketing study. Ok.
evenstevens280@reddit
What's wrong with having things delivered?
whodunnit20@reddit
Itās not about having them delivered, the poster asked about best Own Brands. This is the shops own make, so like Tesco, Asda, Lidl etc
Bitter_Tradition_938@reddit
Amazon Basics is a shopās own brandā¦
Koda614@reddit
Costco's Kirkland Signature brand is by far the best. Second place is a battle between Co-op and Waitrose own brand - Which these two may well be identical given the feel and pattern etc. of the rolls. Very good quality but definitely behind Costco.
txe4@reddit
Izal, obviously.
Itās medicated.
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
NOT a shop's own brand!
Bitter_Tradition_938@reddit
Why, does it have health issues?
txe4@reddit
Youād have health issues if I stuffed you up my arse tbf.
BovrilBullets@reddit
Izal Medicated Toilet Tissue
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
NOT a shop's own brand!

Competitive-Fact-820@reddit
I tried Tesco Luxury Soft on a recommendation from here and I now won't buy anything else.
I do have some Andrex that dates back to the Great Loo Roll Shortage of 2020 - only a 9 pack but we have 5 left as I really don't like it.
melonaders@reddit
I agree on the Tesco Luxury Soft but it has to be the quilted version!
WormsEatShit@reddit
Who Gives a Crap.
TheDuraMaters@reddit
I used to swear by WGAC but the last box I got was terrible - shredded badly. Did we just get a dodgy box? I cancelled our subscription after.Ā
MountainMuffin1980@reddit
Did you let them know? We've been getting it for years with no issues and we'll likely never stop as it's great
TheDuraMaters@reddit
I really should have! Iāll give them another go.Ā
MountainMuffin1980@reddit
Their customer service is fantastic, just for future reference. We had a courier leave a box in the rain and the top rolls got soaked. They sent us a minibox to replace them all.
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
We've been using them for years, still do. Can't say we've had that problem!
WormsEatShit@reddit
Our last box was delivered about a month ago and no issues, never had an issue tbf.
whodunnit20@reddit
This brand is ridiculously expensive.
hazbaz1984@reddit
So expensive.
WormsEatShit@reddit
The anus deserves a little pampering.
ShitBritGit@reddit
I've seen that on the internet.
-dommmm@reddit
I've seen these... can any other commenters vouch? Also does it work out cheaper?
widdrjb@reddit
We use it, nice and soft. It's also very tightly wound, so you get a lot of sheets per roll.
We're about ¾ of the way through the last box delivered in early September. However, we're not using it as much since I had an aftermarket exhaust fitted. The factory one tried to kill me, so a nice chap put a robot up there and fixed me.
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
NOT a shop's own brand!
tjl694@reddit
Tesco Coconut ftw. Tried the Aldi version and definitely not as goodĀ
jakeyb21@reddit
Asda shades is better than Andrex tbh.
scottishsilversurfer@reddit
M&S
DiskBytes@reddit
Kirkland by Costco.
AshEllisUFO@reddit
Home bargains "peachy", its like 40 rolls for £6 or something and its decent, 2 cases pretty much last a year
Competitive-Fact-820@reddit
Going there tomorrow so I might try it.
Presuming I have room in my trolley after my adult son has loaded up on "pint" cans of Irn Bru
txe4@reddit
That stuff is good shit. And good shitting.
Jesterstear99@reddit
The Little Duck So Soft quilted that Farmfoods sell: 5 or 6 of the 18 roll packs for £20.
Silent_Doubt3672@reddit
Either asda shades or aldis long lasting rolls tbh, andrex is crap.
BeardyWeirdoMc@reddit
We buy the Costco Kirkland Signature 3 ply, £23 for 10 rolls of 4, works great for our family

donkey-oh-tea@reddit
If youve got space to store like 120 at a time i recommend splesh.
Flaky-Walrus7244@reddit (OP)
Is that a shop's own brand?
HarB_Games@reddit
No, it's cushelles budget brand I believe
donkey-oh-tea@reddit
No u order online - if youve got storage space it works out quite cheap
peony_beony@reddit
Waitrose own brand is the best I have tried.
Czubeczek@reddit
I buy in bulk online. Alot cheaper for 3 ply paper compared to prices in the shops.
Ryledra@reddit
I like the Lidl Florays Quilted
Speedbird1A@reddit
Waitrose quilted is good.
Professional_Snow576@reddit
Bidets should be normalized in this country, we are literally made fun of intentionally for being covered in shit. if you put your hand in dog shit, would you only wipe it off with a paper towel?
hazbaz1984@reddit
Lidls 3 ply premium stuff.
Not the quilted. The blue package.
Cheaper than most. And prevents hands from getting covered in faeces.
Itās a winner.
yeoldeshrew@reddit
You may mock this but aldi essentials, big rolls 6 in a pack. Quite soft basic bog roll does the job and a roll lasts a while
fastestman4704@reddit
Anyone else have a buttgun?
Shadowknightneo2@reddit
We installed a Bidet into our toilet...it was life changing why we don't have more of them in Britain is crazy!
fastestman4704@reddit
I believe there was at some point a law prohibiting them because water could backlog into the mains but now you just have to have a non-return valve fitted.
softbrownsugar@reddit
When I had the space to store them I'd get 9o or 120 rolls from Groupon
