Every single prison guard is sick in the head, somewhere, eventually.
EscudoLos@reddit
My uncle is pretty chill.
Has definitely beat some ass during gang brawls, but otherwise teaches HS & cooking classes to inmates so they can get a diploma and actually rejoin society when they get out.
diobreads@reddit
Impossible, he must have hidden it well.
It has been scientifically proven that such position will drive people insane. Even the most normal of people display abusive behavior eventually.
manuelmgg@reddit
Let's see the science then buckaroo
InevitableAverage6@reddit
Not entirely to dude's point but there is science about the effects of being in a position of power over captive individuals. The movie is pretty spot-on too
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment
Acheion@reddit
are you really this dumb? that's not science
"Thibault Le Texier has established that the guards were asked directly to behave in certain ways in order to confirm Zimbardo's conclusions, which were largely written in advance of the experiment."
InevitableAverage6@reddit
Go do an experiment like this yourself then.
Just because the guards were asked to act a certain way doesn't mean they had to.
You think CO's aren't asked to behave certain ways and then left to decide if they will or won't?
And go fuck yourself if you can't read deeper than surface text
assasin1598@reddit
Mate, we recommend you go and talk to living person rather than reading about them on wikipedia.
We understand you would have to leave your room and your house and that its difficult, but we believe in you.
InevitableAverage6@reddit
Ah, the groupthink partyline...again.
Gods forbid someone expresses an unpopular opinion, such as actual thinking and extrapolating of non-obvious information
Mista_Infinity@reddit
It’s not an unpopular opinion it’s just wrong. In fact, the stanford experiment is very widely known about in pop culture; and most people don’t research enough to learn it’s bullshit. All it demonstrates is that humans have the capacity for cruelty while under specific and malicious suggestions in the form of monetary pay, authoritative orders and the notion of an eventual benefit to science and humanity; which, no shit we already knew, and has nothing to do with the original abstract the experiment sought to prove. The idea that the experiment is proof of humanities innate cruelness when given the ability has been thoroughly debunked.
assasin1598@reddit
Because you dont have an opinion, you dont have an argument.
Youre citing sources you obviously didnt read, of a topic you yourself dont understand and the only way you learn about it is through 5min shitty video essay on youtube and you treat it like a gospel, the undenieable truth.
The moment somebody makes a counter argument your only defence is "nuh uh" and tell them "go do the experiment yourself".
All you have is somebody elses regurgitatet bullshit somebody else fed you.
Go visit correctional facility, go talk to a person that works there.

corny ass
Razaberry@reddit
I genuinely don’t think your prison guard uncle is “chill”
sinkingintothedepths@reddit
if good people don’t try to be the change they want to see, how can we expect change?
SapirWhorfHypothesis@reddit
The people you’re talking to don’t want change.
Moose1013@reddit
we don't anymore. nobody ever "changes the system from inside". the purpose of a system is what it does. if a system is fucked, its because people want it that way and have a vested interest in keeping it that way. the only way to fix it is to tear it down from the outside and rebuild it.
there might be good cops and prison guards, but they're working in a fucked up evil system that exists to try to keep people in the system forever, even if they pretend otherwise by giving people job training.
EscudoLos@reddit
Keep in mind, not the US.
VadimusMaximus@reddit
Not from the US, but it will probably still apply:
Also don't forget the salary
extreme_cuddling@reddit
COs don't get involved in gang brawls. Your Uncle is lying.
EscudoLos@reddit
Geared up in armour and armed to stop them? They definitely do.
extreme_cuddling@reddit
They aren't beating ass in a middle of a brawl.
They'd rather let us kill each other than get their hands dirty.
They sound an alarm and get about 30 cops out there and hit them with tear gas or mase until everyone gets on the ground. Then they cuff them and take them to the SHU.
Onyxxx_13@reddit
Mine invites the guys getting out to come hang out at our place. Met some really cool people doing that. Getting them some sense of belonging (aka beer and ribs) helps.
SufficientCalories@reddit
Nah, prison guard is a stable job with good pay and a pension and many facilities aren't particularly dangerous. For a lot of people it's a true end game job because they aren't really going to get a decent desk job with their competencies/resume. Plenty of former Teacher's Assistants or Hospital Orderlies who take it because the level of violence expected is similar but the pay is way better and they are allowed to defend themselves.
It's mostly just extremely boring.
Several-Wheel-9437@reddit
Nah they’re usually pretty normal
avengeds12345@reddit
People in poverty would gladly work as a prison guard
forgetful_waterfowl@reddit
many years ago in California, prison guards started out at $90k /yr, I don't know what it is now.
Appropriate-Law7264@reddit
Not uncommon for a CDCR officer to gross 200-250k+ with overtime.
BanzaiKen@reddit
Man thats wild. My housekeeper's husband is clears like $40k a year in OH as a CO. Im always trying to get him to quit and work with me because he'd get a paybump and be a hell of alot safer, but he's addicted to it.
Appropriate-Law7264@reddit
Last year I worked in the jail here, I made 70k, which is respectable around here
Northern MI.
Sounds like he's getting hosed.
BanzaiKen@reddit
Thank you. Yeah it does sound like it, Ill pass it on.
Pvt_Mozart@reddit
Spent 3 years in prison in Texas. There are a lot of cool ones. Prisons are built in small towns where jobs are scarce, which is by design, so entire communities sort of depend on the stable work. But yeah, for every cool guard, there is 1 just like the one in OP's story. As well as some who really get off on the power element, and will just absolutely torture the inmates if they think they can get away with it, which they almost always can. 90% of the worst ones are women.
They aren't all bad though, and there are a lot who treat you like a human and really try to make it a better environment for everyone.
Icy_Cupcake_8076@reddit
Girlbossing went wrong.
The_Shittiest_Meme@reddit
this too is cuck porn
Appropriate-Law7264@reddit
Can watch the whole fight, but everyone who comes to break it up doesn't see him standing there, doing nothing?
Yeah, okay.
It reads like a weird fantasy.
MrBlueW@reddit
Your brain can’t come up with a scenario where he is mostly concealed in a blind spot, and in the mass confusion he isn’t immediately spotted by the COs rushing to save their coworker? Really?
Appropriate-Law7264@reddit
I worked in jails
If an officer got fucked up, the second thing they're going to look for on the cameras is the response from other officer in or around the units.
It's pretty clear to watch someone disappear into a blind spot and not come out for the duration of a fight.
You're on camera basically the entire time inside, it's pretty noticeable when you fall off the camera for awhile.
Strangegary@reddit
It's the way it's written. It is a fantasy. Anon wish harm on his coworker but is too much of a pussy to take action even in a made up story.
Tefached666@reddit
What do you expect, it's a greentext
DefinitelyNotDonny@reddit
Anon fantasizes about being humiliated by a hottie and then sitting there watching as she’s ravished by inmates
Objective-Lawyer5428@reddit
Sound awfully like a friend of mine who asked me where to find "mandingo" porn or stuff with several black dudes on single or few women back in HS before he even had a gf... some people have weird fetishes/ fantasies...
Roggie77@reddit
she was hitting on OP, dude cucked himself
JosephM1609@reddit (OP)
Turns out the toughest officer on the wing was the camera blind spot
