Do you still have your first stuffed animal? If so, what is it and what is its name?

I've got a Paddington bear. The original outfit is long gone but mom did sew him some new duds (denim overalls).
More_Law6245@reddit
I do, and being an original 3 year old that I was I called my teddy bear Teddy and his is now 55 years old. Mind you he hasn't spoken to me since I stuffed him into a suitcase with some golden books and ran away from home. I only got to the corner because I wasn't allowed to cross the street as a 4 year old
Melodic_Scallion_578@reddit
No name for mine but it is a mouse, maybe 14"tall? My mom made one for each of us kids. Not sure if the other sibs have theirs or not.
Kukukachoooo26@reddit
Yes! I named him Pandy I think because he was a black and white bear
vivietin@reddit
I have my first doll. She's 67 and her name is Beulah.
PopRobyn@reddit
No, but my daughter has hers. He's a once-white teddy bear. She's long grown and gone, but she still brings him to me for the occasional surgery.
Prestigious-Fan3122@reddit
No, I left it at my parents's house when I left for college. Ended up getting married and moving out of state halfway through college. 15 years later, my mom had died, and my dad moved in with us, bringing everything that had been in their house! It was at that point that I decided that "Teddy"needed to be retired. My favorite doll, Vicky, went on with him.
If my mother hadn't been such a heavy smoker, and my Childhood twice hadn't stunk of smoke, and then discolored, I might've hung onto one or two of them.
Our boys didn't really have a favorite stuffed animal, but each of our girls' favorite stuffed animal, and her favorite doll, is in a box with her name on it, along with other memorabilia, end up in the attic.

I have my stuffed tiger, named tiger, I have had for over 50 years.

Curious George from the 70s. He’s had repairs done because the dog got at him. The red, white, and blue hat and scarf are from when he was gone being repaired. He made a trip to the L.A. Olympics. At least that was the story I was told at the time. He was actually at my grandmother’s house getting fixed up.
ShrimpySiren@reddit
I still have mine. I'm not sure I ever named him anything other than 'Teddy', but when I was born (1978), my dad bought it for me when I was rushed from AK to WA for a surgery hours after being born. It's not the cutest stuffie... just a teddy bear in plaid overalls, but it's still precious to me.
MB2katz@reddit
I still have Minnie (Minnie the Pooh), a stuffed teddy bear from around 1972. One eye has been put back in the socket with the help of some plastic wrap, and her threadbare belly has been patched with old sock pieces. I would lay on my side and put her face over my ear so spiders wouldn't drop in from the ceiling. Yes, that's how my kid brain worked. I have seen her twin in my local antique shop in much better shape. 😭👵🧸

Yes, got him at age 2.
Teddy bear named “Teddy”
He has no face and his front paw pads are sewn into crescent-shaped scars because I constantly dragged him around by his foot. There’s a big chunk of his upper-right buttock missing because I surgically removed his music box so I could sleep on him comfortably. He sits on a bedside fable on top of my stack of unread books, wearing a mass because he is old and susceptible to airborne viruses.
IUsedtobeExitzero@reddit
I don’t know if it was my first, but I got it a few days after my third birthday and I’m 65

Wow that this was just posted. My mom just gave it to me this past weekend. Humpy Dumpty. She has started to clean out some of her closets and multiple hope chest's. She gave back both my stuff and my sisters stuff.
As a joke I put it on my wife's bed. She thought it was some sort of sexual joke.

I have the orange dog my grandma got me when I was five. His name is Dakin because that is what it said on the tag, I was apparently very determined about this. He is wrapped in my baby blanket in a drawer of my nightstand.

I have a lamb that I was given the day I was born. It has no name. I also have my first teddy bear, who is just named Teddy. Half of the "fur" on his face has rubbed off and part of his nose is missing, but that just shows he is well-loved! He sits on top of my bureau.
Global_Friend5300@reddit
It was a yellow bunny I dragged everywhere until my mother threw it out when I was napping. I was maybe two years old. She was jealous that it made me feel safe and secure. She wanted to be my only source of security. The reality was that I needed someone to keep me safe from her. But no one ever did.

Two. My grandma made me a Raggedy Ann doll when I was still a newborn (I have a picture of it with me in my crib...we're about the same size) Also my parents got me an--animal--not sure what kind. It's pink (well it was originally) with big ears like an elephant..relatively short nose (makes me think of the Elephant's Child pre-alligator in the story by Kipling) and no tail.
What she is, I don't know. But I decided she was an elephant and her name is Eliot.
Also I had some pretty major surgery when I was 21. They tried to send her into surgery with me but the hospital said no. So while I was in surgery for many hours, my other grandma hand-sewed Eliot a little set of scrubs with one of those surgery caps, a mask and shoe covers.

I wish I did. I got it on Christmas morning, all the presents were sitting behind it and there was this big stuffed animal right in the front. And if you unzip the back of it that's where you would keep your pajamas and then zip it back up. It was a big floppy eared dog. Man I'd give anything to have that dog again! Just for the memories of my parents and my youth, I think I was 5 years old when I got it.

I don't know about first but my mom was cleaning out old stuff and found an old panda she made me. It's like 2 or 2.5 ft tall? Kinda crazy it's gotta be 45+ years old.

I have a frog named Froggy from when I was a kid. Also, I had a teddy bear that I originally named Spaghetti, but it was the US Bicentennial and everyone was singing Yankee Doodle Dandy that year so I changed his name to Macaroni. I was about 4.
Metroknight@reddit
I have an old Smokey the Bear from the late 60s. My mother was cleaning out storage years ago and found it tucked away in a box so she sent it to me. My wife thought it was cute so she fixed up the tears and such. Now it is sitting on a shelf with her stuff animals that I have given her over the 27 years we have been married.

Lamby. It's a little lamb that was given to me as a newborn.
I also still have Blankie, which was the blanket I was given as a newborn. (Blankie is now in 3 pieces as it disintegrated a bit during to heavy use)
Both of these items are getting close to 50 years old at this point.
BrotherQuartus@reddit
It’s a pale blue rabbit, the color is very faint now. His name is Piggie. I was in the ICU at 19 months old and a nurse gave him to me when I was discharged. I don’t remember any of it. I was not expected to live. Spoiler alert: I lived.
The rabbit is very beat up. My wife keeps him in a little cloth bag because his neck is too threadbare to sew and his head can fall off.
Coup-de-Glass@reddit
Indeed I do. He’s a faded little carnival prize type stuffed dog with black furry ears and a tan-ish body. Toddler named him Mackeever.

My oldest and second oldest are a knitted penguin by my mother called pink wink (couldn’t say penguin) and a crocheted golliwog called Kylie. I don’t know why the name or gender decided.

Puppup, a teardrop dog. My parents bought two, one for when the first one "died." But I knew, and demanded the first one be stitched up. I then had two of them, and I am pretty sure I still have both, though, some of my totes were stolen from our yard while we were packing up the moving truck. My teddy bear. He's now in a same space because he's got a tear in the seam that just won't stay closed no matter how many times it was fixed. A friend who worked at Build a Bear offered to do some magic, but she left that job before I could bring in my bear for an operation.

I do, his name is Head Kitty because it was just the head of a kitty. It has a spinner that plays a lullaby.
platypusandpibble@reddit
I don't. :( His name was Spotty Dog and my abusive POS mother took ALL my toys and books away when I was about 3. I remember her yanking Spotty Dog from my arms while I cried. I've never found a stuffed animal that looks like Spotty Dog despite searching for basically my whole life since I turned about 14.
Spotty Dog was the cutest, and I don't think it about him too often any more, but when I do, the pain is awful. So, um...yeah. I am going to go drown my sorrows in a bowl of sugary cereal.

I totally still have my first stuffie! It’s a beanbag beagle that was given to me while I was still a newborn in my crib, and it had a pom-pom for a nose. Monkey is now rolled up devoid of both his stuffing and dignity with most of his "suckin thumb" chewed off. I also have my daughter’s first stuffed animal, Music Bear, he used to play a lullaby when you wound him up but the turnkey is jammed. Music Bear is 40. lol my grandson plays with him, but not Tiger who I’m sure is made with toxic shit & has those plastic eye(s) that are a choking danger. I don’t know how we survived childhood! 😉

Snoopetta Lynn. She is some sort of white fuzzy beanie dog, who fits in the palm of your hand, and whose long black felt-fabric ears I pulled off when I was little because I thought that they would grow back (like hair, I guess).
With my help, (using my voice) she used to sing country songs like Delta Dawn to me.

I don’t have my first, but still have several of my favorites. They include a yellow puffalump cat, a snoopy wearing his blue track suit (not sure what happened to his suitcase full of other pricey wardrobe items went) and a white gund teddy bear. They’re all in great shape.
Around age 30, I stopped leaving them out. I don’t keep them displayed generally but will put them out around Christmas.
Over the years I’ve gone back and forth as to what to do with them but at this point - they’ve been around so long - I’ll keep them. Oh the things they’ve seen….

Bear-Bear had been passed down to me from my sister and before her he was my brother’s. They said he was a cat but I still say he’s a bear. Yep, brown dog named Wilver. He still has a weird chunky spot in his fur where I spilled canned Hershey's syrup while eating ice cream and watching the annual viewing of The Wizard of Oz on tv. He got really floppy from all the hugging, and when I was like 10? I spent a week with my BFF when my sister had surgery, and we operated on him. We took stuffing from my friend's ventriloquist dummy and put it in my dog. Stitches still firmly in place, so we did a pretty good job of surgery back in 1985.

I thought I had my first stuffed animal (it's a yellow dog with brown ears that I named Elodo), but found out when I was in my 20s that it's not the original.
Apparently, my Elodo fell apart after a washing, so they got me a new one and swapped them out. First time it happened (I know, right?!?!), they had a hard time finding it again, so they bought me 3 more and just kept them put away in case Elodo the Second fell apart as well, and could be more easily replaced with Elodo the Third or Fourth, if needed.
I found out when my niece found the other Elodo (the Fourth) at my parent's house when my Elodo (the Third) was at my house, on my bed.
It's become a fun family story, and now my niece has Elodo the Fourth!

I did until last week. Didn't realize it. My mother passed away in mid march and I've been home cleaning out the house (both mom and dad have been in an assisted living facility since mid Oct last year). My mother wouldn't let me get rid of a thing when she was alive. I'm an only child and live on another continent for work at the moment.
My mother saved everything. I found a copy of my first speeding ticket (not many more, I learned my lesson after a few). I found old teenage 'love' letters from girls I had forgotten (my wife and daughter couldn't stop laughing), game balls, programs, etc... and there...in a box. The first stuffed animal I picked out myself (so, not technically the first). A koala bear (I named - Koko or Coco of Cocoa...never really spelled it) that I got from Hershey's Park in Hershey PA between 1973 and 1979 (we lived in MD and that is when I had to have gotten it.... I think closer to 73 but am not sure... between age 4.5 and 11. I'm thinking 77 maybe? a bit old but with no brothers or sisters I was a bit stunted on socialization and maturity looking back.
Its been a rough month mentally going through all this stuff. finding out stuff about my parents from all the stuff they kept... like...i was almost not an only child until the stillbirth, previous marriages, almost previous marriages, etc... so many hidden family secrets.

This is "Threadbear". I used to call him Theodore Edward Bear. I've had him since I was brought home from the hospital. My father got him when he was a baby. He's estimated to be eighty years old.
He's been through a lot. I don't remember the last time he had button eyes. All of his limbs and his head have been reattached multiple times over the years.
I used to make a cape and mask for him and play "Super Bear".
One time, a mean kid grabbed him from me and threw him into a storm runoff. I was in hysterics. My mother waded into the rushing water to rescue him.

When I was about 6 we all went to my grandmother’s house for Christmas. It’s a large extended family so there were maybe 30-35 of us there. As the youngest of all of the cousins, my little brother and I were in charge of passing out presents. When it was said and done there wasn’t a present for me. I didn’t say anything but just watched everyone else open theirs. Later on my mom asked me what I had gotten and I told her. She told my grandmother who came to me about 5 minutes later with a wrapped present. It ended up being a small, stuffed baboon. I’m sure she had extra stuff in the back just in case and I never blamed her as she was getting on in age and likely just couldn’t keep up with everyone. I still have it with my high school class ring around its arm. It helps me remember my grandmother who was a very sweet, accomplished lady.

I'm not sure it's my first, but I've had Bunny since before I was 2.
There is actually a funny story behind Bunny. When I was 2, my grandmother took me to see The Nutcracker in NYC for my birthday (December baby). I put Bunny on the seat next to me. When the people who had the seat showed up, I told them "You can't sit there. My Bunny is sitting there!"
My grandmother always got the same seats for each season and this couple did the same, so she got to know them a bit. A few years later, they told her that I became part of their family's lexicon. Whenever someone needed space in the house, they would say "you can't sit there. My Bunny is sitting there" and the rest of the family knew to leave that person alone for a while.
I weirdly hope they are still using that saying. 😄
