Has the price of milk gone down where you are?

Given that everywhere sells the 4pint bottles for the same price as Aldi and Lidl (£1.65), I doubt there's any significant margin in it. Given all the transport involved, refrigeration, processing, short shelf life, large physical size for the price, large amount of shelf space occupied - it wouldn't surprise me if, like the 55p bread, they make nothing on it. There's probably profit in the smaller size bottles and there's definitely profit in processing it more (cheese, butter, cream, powdered, etc). "Two thirds of the price goes to the supermarket" - perhaps it does, but supermarket overall margins are razor-thin. Tesco's pre-tax profit is £2.2bn, which sounds impressive...but they had to shift £70bn through the tills to get it, of which £64bn was "cost of sale" - ie buying the stuff and paying for the people, buildings (of which they own and rent about £25bn worth), trucks, and whatnot. Cut prices by 3% and the profit is gone.
