Going to see The Prodigy on Thursday. What can I expect?

I’ll be in the standing area on the ground floor. I am 63. Any advice or tips will be much appreciated.

A drunk crowd. Stand off to the sides or the back and, I can't stress this enough, wear acoustic earplugs.
I've been going to see them since the Charly days, they are an amazing live experience. Enjoy.
MahatmaAndhi@reddit
If you forget your earplugs, you can get them free at the bar. Don't neglect your ears. I did for years and now I struggle daily.
Spottyjamie@reddit
At arenas though? Imo smaller venues are worse on the lugs!
I saw prodigy at newcastle arena and at download and neither were particular loud tbh
However seeing in flames at an academy was extremely loud
FlyingTreeSquirrel@reddit
Ear defenders are only for the weak.....
I'll see myself out :)
geeered@reddit
It depends on the venue, plenty of arenas do.
Wishmaster891@reddit
I got tinnitus when i was 27, didnt know it could be a permenant thing. Really think more should be done to encourage ear plugs in the UK. When i went to a gig in paris a few years ago there were people coming round offering them out.
spoo4brains@reddit
I saw them in a tiny club the week Experience launched and it was mimed, they did 4 songs then buggered off. Saw them in a bigger club a few months later and it wasn't a lot better.
The highlights of the nights were the DJ's afterwards playing early Jungle which blew my mind.
JPMU96@reddit
Yep, great advice!
Saw them at the AO in Manchester a couple years ago and the band/set was great, had aisle seats though which initially we thought was great, but the constant stream of drunk people up & down the stairs really pissed me off by the end, took away from full immersion in the set.
Of course 99% of people will be sound but they'll definitely be a few of that 'lad's type' in there!
Will be missing this one as I'm on holiday but judging off my own experiences of seeing them as well as watching their Glasto set last year, they'll be phenomenal, enjoy!
Dangerous-Regret-358@reddit
You will thoroughly enjoy yourself. I'm 63 as well although I saw them in MK Bowl a good few years ago during their Warriors Dance phase. I am so pleased I went, for that was the first and only time I got to see Keith Flint.
The atmosphere was friendly and the people there were great. I wouldn't stand too much towards the front though if I were you. You might find it a bit more comfortable towards the rear. You'll still have a great view of the stage and the music will be just as audible, believe me.
I hope you have a great time.
SterlingVoid@reddit
Yeah the Warriors Dance thing in MK Bowl was amazing, great day and night
nial93@reddit
MK Bowl with the pendulum and chase and status was a treat for sure, what an amazing day that was, went with my dad who's 60 now, time flys too fast man
Dangerous-Regret-358@reddit
Pendulum were supporting them and they're very good. I'll have to start listening to some of their stuff again as I've almost forgotten how good they are.
Faveflav@reddit
An hour long mix and someone shouting come on you warriors every two minutes
Ok_Cow_3431@reddit
If my experience of seeing them last year (or maybe 2024?) is anything to go by, expect a lot of coked up middle aged men on the 1 night out they're allowed each year
Baddies-get-saddies@reddit
Carl Cox is supporting! Definitely get in to catch him
Visible_Pipe4716@reddit
38’and seeing them for the first time in Leeds I’m so excited!
Emergency_Cellist754@reddit
Best live act I've ever seen. Pure energy, demented chaos.
But that was 20 years ago.
insertitherenow@reddit
It’ll be sweet man. Pop a couple of pills and it’ll be sweeter.
GinBitch@reddit
Such a great gig. I was lucky enough to see them live a few months before Keith died so can't comment on the recent set up but the energy was incredible and the set list was perfect.
Enjoy!
EddieOfDoom@reddit
Make sure you drop before you get to security just in case
Jahcurs@reddit
I saw them at an open air festival last year and was..whelmed. It wasn't very loud and maxim just kept calling everyone in the crowd topless warriors I'm sure in a closed arena it will be a much better experience
lonestay@reddit
Well not Keith for starters .
WhatIsInAName2000@reddit
are you looking for an omen?
Brilliant_Bullfrog84@reddit
I don't think they are, it's against Their Law
mister-rik@reddit
That would be No Good
sufjan12@reddit
Lots of middle age people trying their hardest to not complain about standing up for so long
wandergirl92@reddit
I’m going solo to the Prodigy in Glasgow on wed. They are soooo good I managed to see them about 10 years ago when Keith was still around.
Carl cox will be fantastic too so don’t miss him at 7pm
nial93@reddit
The best night of your life, enjoy my friend
helpmaboabjings@reddit
Sniffer dogs, depending on the venue.
I saw pendulum years ago and there were sniffer dogs.
People were still pilled out their nuts though.
Tucu7@reddit
Best live band of all time in my humble opinion. They’ve still got it. Should also play quite a few songs from the Jilted Generation era. Enjoy
Saw_Boss@reddit
Really? Thought they were fairly average a year ago.
carlos_fandangos@reddit
I was a huge Oasis fan back in the day and saw them loads. 2 gigs stuck out to me for the support bands stealing the show by being soooo good live, Knebworth (Prodigy) and one at Wembley arena with Supergrass.
TooNeuroToBeABot@reddit
Came here to say this. Seen many bands or many genres. Prodigy are the best.
Craig1974@reddit
Drugs and neon
bababababoos@reddit
Drop half a pill, make it even better
RecentTwo544@reddit
You won't be the oldest person there if you're mentioning your age out of that concern. Lots of people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.
As I'm sure you're aware, Experience came out when you were still in your 20s, so they do attract an older crowd these days.
Lots of metalheads are into the Prodigy too, which generally makes the crowd nicer.
heyjxdee@reddit
People dancing and singing along to music that is played live by the artist on stage
RecentTwo544@reddit
I do like the Prodigy, but Liam largely just presses "play" and isn't doing much with all the gear in front of him. The live drummer and guitarist are a nice touch, and it's good Maxim now gets to do more than just stand there looking menacing.
Tez7838@reddit
Keith flint won’t be there
bowen7477@reddit
Not Keith flint
scalectrix@reddit
Some middle aged blokes playing banging music. Have fun!
Beginning_Ant8580@reddit
It's an omen.
IlkaysDTF@reddit
They've changed the lyrics from smack my bitch up to stand the fuck up
matthimself@reddit
I saw them at Leeds fest circa 2007. I thought I was in for a chilled afternoon. Oh no. What happened first was a chair got thrown, followed by 40,000 in an intense rave. It was ace, but I was not expecting it at all.
Tricky-Reporter-5246@reddit
Old people
KingKhram@reddit
A very good time. I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks. Start at the back or the side of the venue and venture forward till you find the right place for you
jenkelar@reddit
Music I would have thought
TheZamboon@reddit
One of them not being there
ElExtraMass@reddit
Saw them last summer at a festival and they blew me away. If you’re a fan you’ll have a great time and plenty of older generation will be there to watch rather than go mad - you’ll find that section front and center.
Have fun!
BigBlueMountainStar@reddit
I saw them at V97 in Chelmsford and during Smack my Bitch Up the ground was moving underneath us. And no, it wasn’t on anything, as I was driving.
Specific_Club_7640@reddit
Get practising high energy dancing for Firestarter! Don't let us down.
EddieHouseman@reddit (OP)
No problem, I taught St Vitus
-info-sec-@reddit
A mosh pit, loud music, drinks/urine being thrown in the air
VodkaMargarine@reddit
It'll be good. They are a good live act. Bring earplugs (or ask at the bar they usually give them out for free).
fwmlag@reddit
A friend of the family had her ashes scattered at a prodigy gig because it was her favourite band. So maybe people's ashes?
Eukonidor_Of_Arisia@reddit
They got the poison. So make sure you get the remedy.
__mz@reddit
I’ve had varied experiences when seeing Prodigy, including friends needing to be dragged over the front barrier, to probably the best night of my life
00mpollard@reddit
A top night!
Seen them multiple times, absolutely epic live!
Have a blast 😎
Right_Ad4459@reddit
Hi. I’m going Saturday at Birmingham utilita arena . Can’t wait , however am expecting achy hips & knees for a day or two at my age (47) . Hope you have a fab night!
Voodoopulse@reddit
I'm off to see them in May, I can't fucking wait
Limitedheadroom@reddit

Keith Flint won’t be there.

Prodigy songs
Utilitarian_Proxy@reddit
As Keith died in 2019, maybe Liam's wife will join him on stage and they'll do some All Saints material...
Rich_27-@reddit
Possibly "Firestarter"
Seaside83@reddit
Beat me to it!
Past-Replacement-448@reddit
A rave masterclass. Big bad and heavy in the best possible way. I’m jealous 😂
Past-Replacement-448@reddit
