They’re also not a particularly healthy diet for usual civilian life — most notably they’re pretty high sodium and three a day is pretty high calorie too.
That’s largely fine for relatively young and healthy adults in the field where efficiency is important and they’ll get plenty of physical exertion but quickly becomes silly or even dangerous when you’ve got a baby who needs formula or grandpa with kidney disease.
How about we just keep feeding people whether through food banks, community outreach, and food assistance? If they get smokes and booze, that is another issue.
The two largest groups that receive food assistance are the elderly and children. Oh and walmart is the company that has the most employees that receive food assistance. Working poor people while they rake in billions of dollars.
Wanna solve the issue? Lets do what Finland did and implement permanent housing first programs. They have reduced chronic homelessness by 75% and feel they can have it all but eliminated by the end of 2027.
That would save the us billions of dollars.
What is truly a crazy idea was proposed in the United States in 1978. Finland stole the idea and has eradicated most of their hungry & homeless issues.
Well, they are nutrient-dense, shelf stable, and let you control calories pretty well. One of them is about 1500 calories, which is enough for a single person if they have 1-2 per day. Having lived off them for extended periods(not by choice), they're honestly not that bad. You can buy them in bulk online and it boils down to about $4 per. So one person can be fed decently well for only $4-8 per day. A shitty pre-packaged gas station sandwich can be $8 by itself
You can buy MRE's with SNAP at the commissary and they aren't that expensive. I see them for $5/ea. I save them for emergencies but I cycle through them by giving them to people who've never had one, think they're cool and want to try it. They usually don't want another.
Some of you fuss so much about what less fortunate people do with tax dollars rather than the billionaires who literally run everything and could have a bigger impact on humanity as a whole… but they won’t because greed.
But sure, let’s get mad at those in need when they want to also live their lives a little bit. Because if you’re poor, you’re not allowed to have fun, right? 🙄
Ebt has allowed me to live while I'm dealing with cancer:( guess I don't need it because I need booze that I don't drink and cigarettes I don't smoke. You know all apparently.

That's not cost effective and creates the need for a whole supply chain to get them to everyone getting assistance.

Three meals a day is wild. Usually only one, no EBT, not malnourished, and my ass isn’t the size of a house.

Crazier, replace foodstamps with cold hard cash because poor people need more than food.
