You’re not wrong, there’s no reason for anyone to downvote you. They are known as a one hit band and that’s the only song most people would know. And Shannon Hoon died only a couple of years after that so there were only 2 albums (technically 3, but that came out in the 2000s with a different singer). It doesn’t mean the rest of their material isn’t good, but they only had one mainstream hit.

I was just starting HS in 1992. I loved this song (still do) and became a huge REM fan. The boy I had a crush on (who was very musically gifted and played in a garage band) would randomly break into all these little dance moves that Mike does throughout this video. Whenever I see the video it reminds me of him (in a good way). REM practically defined my life in HS.

I teach English in Japan and for warmup to my 3-hour classes with the teenagers, we sing a few songs -- like 2\~4 from our pool of a little over 80 total songs so far.
They LOVE Ironic by Alanis Morissette and often beg me to pull up the video if that's in the day's selection.
(...And yes, yes, I've done my duty as a teacher; we've gone over how the varying situations, uh, aren't ironic, adding to the greater irony of the song title.)
