Big money garage doing a basic plastidipp job.

So anyways I got sick of looking at this faded red and I’m going to spray the truck plasti dipp white anyways.
So this grey is a good base.
This is a huge change in appearance of the truck.
This is like 6 rattle cans.
2 per side and 1 on the roof.
Super heating the cans with hot water to make them spray better and go further.
This took me about 4 hours.
To tape it all off clean it half ass with a wet rag.
Dry it.
Then spray it.
I even did the roof.
This just moved my truck from the clapped out junker that gets pulled over to something that can be respected.
Malarky3113@reddit
I really like how you didn't include any pictures of the finished truck.
pistonsoffury@reddit
The lack of paragraphs is also a nice touch.
codecki@reddit
A nice touché
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Sections.
All do the front end when I can afford more paint.

Yep

Just an okie from Muskogee.

Proud to be an Okie from Muskogeeeeeeeee

Big money
Milkyrice@reddit
Maybe that IS the finished truck lol
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Sections we are doing sections.
TheDrunkenWrench@reddit
I cannot fathom a situation where just rattle canning the front clip to match the rest of the truck isn't the best/easiest option.
Even easier cause each panel unbolts, making it easier to sand and spray.
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Easy to see why
Aleutian_Solution@reddit
That looks like shit and is going to end up looking worse when finished. Painting isn’t something to cheap out on or cut corners in. The more prep you do the better the end result will be.
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
It dosent get much more prepped.
I had the bed off just sand the back of the cab.
That plastidipp is not going anywhere for a very long time.
Also if you could read this is just a BASE LAYER.
I’m going to spray the whole truck again and paint it WHITE.
This was literally just because I wanted my truck to not look like shit until I paint it white.
jonny24eh@reddit
I don't think you can claim mission accomplished there.
Like, by all means fuck around with a shit box project, but don't act offended when aren't impressed.
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
It’s a fucking a fucking shit box.
You don’t need to be impressed.
You need to be slightly less annoyed you have to look at my non painted truck that was horrible to look at.
All you need to do is appreciate that it dosent look like this anymore
IPaintSpaceDolls@reddit
This is sick. Looks cool as fuck.
Aleutian_Solution@reddit
It looked better before the “paint job”
BeanCheezBeanCheez@reddit
I agree. All this guy did was make it look worse and create a shitload of work for himself.
jonny24eh@reddit
I'm not the one acting annoyed in this comment section.
You claimed in your that a black plastic dipped cab is the difference between getting pulled over and being "respected". You're delusional.
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
I guarantee I won’t get pulled over as much now that the cab itself is all one color. It dosent look all hacked and shitty. Now it just looks like a grey primer job.
Once I do the front end the truck won’t be a rolling eye sore or red flag that screams he dosent have insurance lmao. 😂
I have insurance that was an example of how the police see a shitty looking truck.
Now that I’m aleast putting a minimum effort paint job on the truck I will be a lot safer from getting pulled over.
From 50 foot this truck will look like any other truck out there.
It used to be a red piece of shit that screams pull me over.
NoseResponsible3874@reddit
You realize that plastic dip is not something you can just paint over, right? removing that is going to be a BITCH.
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Do you not understand how dip works?
You can spray more dip over the top of the grey I just painted. They recommend like 15 to 10 coats for dipp.
I’m going to run about 6 coats.
All try to explain this slowly for you.
I dipped the truck grey. So when I go to spray white plastidipp I won’t need to use as much paint.
Because the truck already has 3 layers.
When I spray the white plastidipp the truck will have 6 layers of dipp.
It will peel off just fine.
But trust me this truck will see the scrap yard before this plastidipp paint job wears out.
And if it fucks up all cut the section out with a razor blade and respray it lmao 😂
NoseResponsible3874@reddit
You don’t even have money to finish the first coat, so that’s suspect…
jonny24eh@reddit
All try to explain this slowly for you.
Bit rich for someone seemingly unaware of the word "I'll"
theonlypeanut@reddit
We all know this thing is never getting resprayed. The scrap yard are the only people that are going to have to deal with the plastidip.
Downtown-Ant1@reddit
Are you looking forward to doing it again next year after it starts to look like shit again?
AntalRyder@reddit
Plasti-dip holds up for years surprisingly well, but in turn it does look like shit from day 1.
IPaintSpaceDolls@reddit
Plastidip definitely does not hold up well. Even with tons of surface prep, it's inferior to pretty much any other paint I can think of, even acrylic.
NitroBike@reddit
It really doesn't. Every vehicle I've seen with plastidipped wheels has sections peeling. I've never seen a good plastidip job done.
ForeskinForeman@reddit
It’s crazy that people are still doing it. It definitely had its moment quite a few years ago. I used to hate plasti dip. I still hate it, but I used to too.
AntalRyder@reddit
I wouldn't use them on wheels, that's for sure. Wheels spin at high speeds and get a lot more abuse than body panels.
And surface prep matters so much!
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Look at the hood that dipp is over two years old. If the body work on the hood was not shit the hood would still look good.
I had to grind off one side to fix the bondo on the scoop.
Downtown-Ant1@reddit
No part of that hood looks good...
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
You don’t know how to read do you?
Downtown-Ant1@reddit
I do. You're saying look how shitty this 2 year old plastidip hood looks.
rocket_pollo@reddit
Why not just do it right? It looks like shit.
KG8893@reddit
Why pay a bunch of extra money for plasti-dip that you can't peel back off? Also I don't think you can sand between coats... Just use rattle can paint...
The dark gray looks great though.
Only other complaint I have is that you should just pull the seals from the door frames but it's too late for that without going back and sanding. Put the window down, pull the seals out of the tracks, remove the felt and mask the hole. No tape lines and no color showing through around the trim. At least the headlights are pulled though lol
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
I have a bad habit of running regular spray paint no matter how hot I get the cans haha 😂 Plastidipp just flows better I can paint it how I I need to and it will dry and lay out and look fine Everytime.
Plus it’s cheap. I did everything you see the whole cab and roof for like 75$ with all the tape I wasted. All waste another 40$ and get paint for the front end and paint the front end this weekend coming up. And all work on the bedsides and get them ready for paint. And in 2 weekends I would like to see the entire truck in this base grey.
And then I can get some masking tape and lay out the “black” Van Halen stripes.
Then paint the truck white.
Then lay out more stripes and paint the truck red.
In about a month or so this paint job should be done and clear coated.
Just working on it nights and weekends.
smthngeneric@reddit
So you chose to paint the red cab that matched the red bed but kept the white and bondo fenders? So now there's even more colors and it matches worse? Interesting choice. Atleast you enjoy it more that's all that matters is suppose.
Remarkable-Ad9880@reddit
Its going to be tiger stripped from hell and back.... you really need a dip your car kit with the spray gun and everything to do it right... the spray cans are mainly for small stuff...
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Actually it looks really good honestly
You just don’t know how to spray plastidipp.
See this guitar?
That’s all plastidipp.
I think I know a thing or two about what the chemical will and will not stick to.
Remarkable-Ad9880@reddit
Oh...yeah I can tell thats plastidip... thats... interesting? Although, I never said anything about adherence, but the tiger stripes you painted in the doors. We can tell you really know what you're doing.
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Were they at in this picture of it dry?
Remarkable-Ad9880@reddit
Lets get a good close up of this door. I dont think you can actually make me believe this is a quality job. You do you tho.
badcrass@reddit
Yeah but he's working in sections. He'll get there some day
Remarkable-Ad9880@reddit
He will be chasing his tail trying to make it all the same shade
DavantesWashedButt@reddit
Next time use newspaper and tape for masking the windows. That's a ton of tape lol
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
This is what I would refer to as ALOT of tape.
DavantesWashedButt@reddit
You could mask your entire truck with a single roll of tape. Lol
Far_Kangaroo2550@reddit
That's a bit less tape
basicKitsch@reddit
$0.35 less tape
$100 more taping
Clearly
Conscious_Dish7127@reddit (OP)
Bruhh I taped this whole truck in 15 minutes cost me 5$ worth of tape.
The tape was even ON SALE.
What is your grudge?
basicKitsch@reddit
wtf dude the guitar would have taken way more time. literally what i said
jonny24eh@reddit
Blue the plasti-dip budget on blue scotch
GR1ML0C51@reddit
You gotta be 21 to buy Krylon in OK?

Actually yes you do. Haha 😂
If I was huffing this shit I would be dead by now.
