Favorite kids meal toy for Xennials
Posted by dadjokes502@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 201 comments
I always loved McDonalds toys growing up they had some of the best Toys. I’m partial because my mom worked there and always brought them home.
Their mascots had some cool toys but lots of shows partnered with them.
But most of all I vividly remember McDonald’s the Knight because he was the out of the box mascot I could imagine borderline terrifying.
True-Arugula6405@reddit
Awe.. thank you for this! Instant joyful nostalgia.
TriceratopsJam@reddit
Mine were definitely the fragile vegetable racers
mollyjwink@reddit
Puzzleheaded_Cat4127@reddit
These were so funny! My mother still might have one or two and some random accessories
C_est_la_vie9707@reddit
So my sister and I were fighting like we always did and she went down hard onto one of these and chipped her tailbone. I used to tease her about breaking her butt on a chicken nugget. Ah memories.
wafair@reddit
Holy crap! There were Halloween ones?!
TeutonJon78@reddit
The McNugget Buddies.
I had a TON of them. My Sunday school teacher at the time was a manager a McD's and she would give one for each Bible verse we memorized. Did i get every one I could? I did. Did I really care about the Bible verse? I did not.
iliumada@reddit
I loved them so much!!
glorfindelreddit@reddit
I loved the little transformers that were shaped by McDonald’s food.
dumpyduluth@reddit
my mom has these still along with the nuggets in halloween costumes
kaest@reddit
I still have a couple of those somewhere. Definitely my favorite McD toy!
lostcosmonaut307@reddit
This one, right here. The dinosaur ones were PEAK, especially the hotcakes container that turned into a pterodactyl!
ClockNo4810@reddit
It's these for me. Or the Land Before Time puppets from Pizza Hut.
PvtDeth@reddit
100% I found some on eBay and they weren't that much. I think my kids might like them as much as I did.
johnvalley86@reddit
Hell yeah! These were my favorite with the fraggle Racers being close runner up
twentysevennipples@reddit
I still have the french fry one
ZestycloseSuccess285@reddit
These were amazing!
Dicky_Penisburg@reddit
Changeables! Definitely my favorite from childhood. They just recently released a new run of them for the first time in over 35 years.
Prinessbeca@reddit
The new ones suuuuucked.
Some 90s boys grew up on the property we're buying, and when it flooded in 2019 most everything was left behind. We found almost a full set of og changeables that I cleaned up for my kids to play with. (Also, am entire set of the Land Before Time rubber puppets from Pizza Hut. A bit brittle from being outside in the elements, but still, they bring me joy!)
BVeeDub@reddit
I have two of them on my work desk and they bring me such happiness. I need to get the entire collection.
hamburgler26@reddit
YES those are amazing. They're doing something similar now and we found some sets of the OG ones on ebay and really want to get them. Some of them are pretty amazing.
antisocialnetwork77@reddit
Snorks all day
dadjokes502@reddit (OP)
I never liked the snorks
antisocialnetwork77@reddit
How dare you, sir.
Nikkianne617@reddit
Baby Gonzo and baby Kermit are currently my nieces favorite bath toys - and my sea wees 🥰
2reeEyedG@reddit
This one and rescue rangers. I still have all of what’s in the pic except for piggy
Efficient-Cut7155@reddit
Core memory for me- 10th birthday, was allowed to get my ears pierced AND eat McDonald’s (a rare treat as a kid), got the Kermit skateboard toy. Good day!
skywalkerRCP@reddit
I loved that Kermit toy it was my favorite for a long time.
goosedog79@reddit
That Kermit, minus the skateboard, sits as the mascot to my parents pool to this day. My kids love diving down for it, just like me and my sister 40+ years ago!
KBO_Winston@reddit
My favs! I still have some on my desk.
spderweb@reddit
I loved the fraggle rock cars.
Snow_Crash_Bandicoot@reddit
wayneluke23@reddit
Forgot all about these , memory remembered
othertigs@reddit
I loved the muppets when I was little. These toys came out when I was six. We were doing a multi-week drive around the country (starting in California) and managed to get Kermit, the last one I needed, outside of NYC. We were supposed to be meeting friends for a fancy dinner just a little later, but after my parents realized Kermit was the toy, I got a pre-dinner happy meal. Those toys got played with hard on the meandering drive back to CA.
camptastic_plastic@reddit
These weren’t as cool a most of the ones shared here, but did anyone else love the Bambi toys? I had all of them but Flower. For some reason I just thought these were magical.
ebola1025@reddit
I still have my Bambi. I had all 4 and played with them for years and years in my dollhouse. I even had an extra Bambi that I played as Faline
Decent-Unit-5303@reddit
Bambi was so elegant, Flower and Thumper so chubby and cuuuttteeeee....
sundancedevil@reddit
I had Thumper and Bambi and I would carry them with me so I could play with them on-the-go.
Street_Breadfruit382@reddit
No! Not these. The muppet babies plushies they did for Christmas. Mid 80s. Miss piggy was so pretty!
ebola1025@reddit
I had them all and Miss Piggy had hair, and they were my prized possessions for years. I'm so happy you reminded me of this
ShowMeYourHappyTrail@reddit
I loved Fraggle Rock so those guys in their little vegetable cars were my favorite.
MajesticLow@reddit
I had the Miss Piggy in this picture but mine was on its last leg from playing with it 😂
Due_Addition_587@reddit
The Land Before Time puppets from Pizza Hut. Have seen them mentioned a few times, but let's get a proper look! My mom killed herself to get one of each - I have no idea how she made this magic happen in the days before the internet.
M0ntgomatron@reddit
All I wanted was a Mr Frosty. Never got one.
Kryptin206@reddit
Wendy's mix up aliens
HeckTheCat@reddit
Wendy's still does surprisingly cool toys that aren't promos for a licensed franchise. My kid recently collected the Strange Pet set and they're actually decent quality little figures.
My favourite from them was Felix the Cat though XD the commercial is a nostalgia trip
deadinsidesince2006@reddit
Elegant-Aerie-1233@reddit
I had all of these toys. My mom never took me to McDonald’s because she knew it was it was not healthy. But my stepdads mom worked there after she retired because I guess she needed to be busy her entire life or something. Anyway every Sunday we would go to her house for a big Sunday dinner with the whole family (again this lady never stopped) and she would have the McDonald’s toys for me, like the whole set of whatever was out. So I always had all of them.
hamburger-pimp@reddit
These and the little McNugget guys
TinyDogGuy@reddit
Book-It was a Kid’s Meal, right? I read so many damn books and collected these. They smelled so good, too.
al_m1101@reddit
I have a core memory of these, but the Eureka's Castle ones.
dadjokes502@reddit (OP)
I need to find these on eBay. Only Pizza Hut toy I wanted
TinyDogGuy@reddit
I got this photo from an ebay listing. $35 for the 3 originals and a clone.
FitCharacter8693@reddit
Cera’
TinyDogGuy@reddit
TIL
I mean, it totally makes sense. I will say, I haven’t revisited the Don Bluth catelogue of animated “children’s” films.l, in 30 years…out of fear of unboxing repressed childhood trauma. Like how was every movie that he made, so incredibly heart wrenching? Disney never came close.
FitCharacter8693@reddit
I still have my Ducky !!
eamus_catuli_@reddit
That’s where they were from! I have a couple of these dinos and didn’t remember them being from Happy Meals but couldn’t think of where they came from.
TinyDogGuy@reddit
They came from Pizza Hut, as a promo for ‘The Land Before Time’. I think you could buy one, in addition to a child pan-size pizza.
During that same time period, the Book-It reading program was at its peak. You’d read so many books, and get a certificate for a free Pan Pizza.
I read a lot as a kid. And the driving motivator was these puppets, as they released. I was addicted to the sweet rubber smell and obsessed with dinosaurs.
Pizza Hut ended up realeasing 8 puppets. 4 for Land Before Time. 4 for Land Before Time 2. The two most traumatic movies to most childhoods.
Aaaaand my parents hated Pizza Hut.
lostcosmonaut307@reddit
I won the whole set of these by entering a coloring contest. They had the sheet I colored up for quite awhile.
TinyDogGuy@reddit
That’s awesome. I would have framed it. I unfortunately had to consume Pizza Hut’s greasy AF pan pizza. But…I read all the Box Car Children books as well. So not a bad trade off.
OMG remember how smoky restaurants were? I just had this olfactory memory, of Pizza Hut in Lansing, MI…cheese, sauce, grease, A&W Rootbeer and stale smoke.
chadork@reddit
I remember how these tasted. I chewed on so much as a kid.
TinyDogGuy@reddit
They had a distinct flavor. Probably phthalates and carcinogens…but it was the 80’s.
Squish_Miss@reddit
I swear I'll be 80 and still remember this.
twentysevennipples@reddit
I brought these to kindergarten for show and tell
JMurph3313@reddit
I can smell these. I loved these and the Alf puppets so much.
Dimplefrom-YA@reddit
we were too broke for mcdonald’s.
Ok_Concentrate4461@reddit
I believe my mom still has some of those. She’s done home daycare for 46 years and for a time she collected so many happy meals toys and just stuck them in a giant under bed box for the kids to play with.
Fianna9@reddit
I think I was a teen, but I loved when they had the mini beanie babies. And I would go in and buy them on the side
noonesaidityet@reddit
Changeables and the McNuggets with the different costumes were their best ideas, IMHO.
digitalgraffiti-ca@reddit
FRAGGLES. I still have the whole set
twilightswimmer@reddit
I still have my original boo buckets.
sundancedevil@reddit
I loved the 1988 Oliver & Company finger puppets.
dadjokes502@reddit (OP)
I love this movie
But I never knew Joey Lawrence was the voice of Oliver
Beneficial_Guess6410@reddit
I’m surprised nobody has talked about these yet. The best, and most classic IMO.
freedraw@reddit
Robot Changeables > Dinosaur Changeables.
dadjokes502@reddit (OP)
I’m on the fence about those.
MashedPotatoesDick@reddit
freedraw@reddit
The flocking on these did not hold up at all. If you find the today, even still in the bag, they're all sticky.
Pessemist_Prime@reddit
Are those the Berenstein Bears or the Bearenstain Bears?
twentysevennipples@reddit
I used to have gonzo from above ride around in that red wagon
TinyDogGuy@reddit
Holy crap! These were awesome. But then I attempted sticking Papa Bear, into the He-Man Evil Horde Slime Pit, and the slime removed his fur.
freedraw@reddit
Changeables. It was fun collecting the new ones with my daughter recently.
ThatEvanFowler@reddit
If we're talking strictly McDonald's, then it's definitely the original Transformers set.
TomPalmer1979@reddit
Okay see those I remember! Someone else posted the transformers sets only they were turning into cutesy little dinosaurs and I have zero memory of those.
BrooklynRobot@reddit
When your world looks kinda weird and you wish that you weren’t there…

EBMille4@reddit

TinyDogGuy@reddit
Dammit! Can the Fraggles and Muppet Babies cage match for my vote?
Stuffleapugus@reddit
For real!
Prinessbeca@reddit
The carrot car might be tied with Gonzo on the trike for my all time most played with.
TinyDogGuy@reddit
I loved Miss Piggie’s car with Gonzo or Uncle Scrooge. The car’s wheels perfectly matched out bannister, so they’d go rolling down that
Albert_Simon@reddit
Dude, you just unlocked a core memory for me. My two rumblings and I had dozens of these at my grandparents house.
jugdeesh@reddit
Dance your cares away, worries for another day

Allister - Fraggle Rawk (pop-punk cover, 1999)
sand_anne@reddit
Omg childhood memory unlocked!! Thank you for this, man I loved these.
pawogub@reddit
Once busted my chin on a table playing with the radish one. I slipped or something, but ended up getting stitches.
adam5280@reddit
Yessssssssssss
RainbowSnapdragons@reddit
My fave is the Delorean from back to the future that, when you run the wheels along the ground fast enough, the little clear plastic box on the back makes sparks (inside the box). For obvious reasons it got recalled. 😂 I had it as a kid and lost it, so I bought one off eBay like 20 years ago. Still have it.
Tangletoe@reddit
Way underrated reply.
This was the best ever and beats Fraggle Rock toys slightly. The thing shot out sparks! You didn't just see them. Sometimes you could feel them spraying.
AnElectricalMeatbag@reddit
Tangentially, I still want to 1) know what Nanny's face looked like and 2) want her green and white striped socks.
petrov32@reddit
Appropriate-Diver301@reddit
Idk but looking at these gave me just that little bit of happiness I needed today
clutzycook@reddit
These were the first happy meal toys I ever got. My mom took me and my 3 younger siblings (I think the youngest was just a few months old) to Sears for pictures. She bribed us older ones with a happy meal in exchange for cooperative behavior. She must have been totally stressed out with dragging four little kids around to have done that because it had never even been an option in any of our previous visits to MCD.
Anyway, I got Miss Piggy that time. And I think we also ended up with Kermit at a later date.
SpaceBowie2008@reddit
When McDonalds had their food be transformers. That is legend.
Hiryu-GodHand@reddit
This came out when I was in my late, late teens, but the Rugrats watches from BK
lostcosmonaut307@reddit
This. Right here. The holy grail of kids meal toys, from Wendy’s in 1990. Somehow I convinced my parents to ask them to sell us the whole set, since we lived about 2hrs away from the nearest Wendy’s at the time. These things were the sickest, they all opened up to hold your Micro Machines cars which I had a ton of.
Specific-Library-312@reddit
I had that Baby Gonzo for years!!! So that's how I got that thing...
tracefact@reddit
California Raisins!
Rshields_388@reddit

rangeghost@reddit
The post says "Kids Meal" toys, not specifically only Happy Meals.
TrustInRoy@reddit
I know. I'm adding context bc I remember getting them.
tracefact@reddit
Ok.
ThatEvanFowler@reddit
There it is. I was gonna be mad if I had to do it myself. The only thing close would be the Chipmunks glasses, but those weren't toys. I've still got a bunch of these guys rolling around my possessions, though. They survive moves. They survive fires, floods. My California Raisin rocking an electric guitar pointed at the ground will outlive me.
Eziekiel23_20@reddit
Ha. I think I have the set around here somewhere…
General-Ad6459@reddit
No clue why, but this was what first came to my mind.
E-2theRescue@reddit

_buffy_summers@reddit
I remember getting a cloth toy that could either be flipped inside out or have a 'hood' pulled over its head, to become a different animal. I think mine was a black cat that turned into a duck. I wanted to find a picture, but I can't even remember what they're called, and Google AI is a piece of shit.
broken-biscuits177@reddit
The McDonalds Barbies!!! I collected so many of them and you could see through the years, the quality of the toy getting better to then getting worse (cheaply made). Still loved them though!
More recently, their Hello Kitty toys and watches from 2008 and 2015!!
addiepie2@reddit
These were soooo dope !!! Watching Muppet Babies after school is a fond memory for me!! 🤍

McNugget Buddies. There was a lot of different ones, not just Halloween.
dadjokes502@reddit (OP)

sator-2D-rotas@reddit
I had all these Muppet Babies ones. And some that were the food containers that were transformers(ish).
McDonald’s used to be magical. I don’t know what it is now.
queenquirk@reddit
I'm getting a bit sidetracked, because I guess I can't say that this is my *favorite*, but this is the one I remember the most. Why? Because it appeared in a dream as a herald of a monster and I felt uneasy around it after that. It still randomly pops into my head.
Just had to get that off my chest. For such an innocent little toy, it appeared in one of the worst nightmares I ever had, to the point where I remember it 30+ years later.
