I used to love this show

Just found it on Tubi. Not gonna lie, this show aged pretty well, enjoying the trip down memory lane
NY2GA23@reddit
I just started rewatching it on Tubi, and I never skip the intro bc the music is so damn good.
I think the show holds up really well. Love catching guest appearances of actors that became big later like Michael Madsen and Bruce Willis. Some of my favorites were the episodes with Sheena Eaton.
Vmagnum@reddit
One of the best intro songs ever, imho
Senior_Ad3011@reddit
Agreed, it’s up there with SWAT, bonanza, warrior, Hawaii 5-0, Rockford files and Peaky Blinders ( I know it’s a nick cave song , still makes a kickass theme song)
JustFiguringItOutToo@reddit
hard to sing along though
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
If you listen to Every1's a Winner by Hot Chocolate, you will hear some of the "drums" from the theme.

Always came home by 10pm on Saturday night just to watch this
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I was not a big fan but watched many episodes because my mom thought the two guys were good looking. Sucked only having one TV.
ratsta@reddit
I remember two things about this show, only.
The "fade to credits" scene of an episode where a girl who got exposed for manipulating other people empties a jar of prescription capsules into a bowl of ice cream and picks up a spoon. As she starts eating, Hall & Oates "Rich Girl" starts playing.
A character, can't remember if it was Johnson's or not, had a saxophone and played a tune called "Gravy on my tie" which consisted of one unchanging note.
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
Bren Ten!
COINS_THAT_SUNK_TOO@reddit
Classic. The episodes that had the biggest impact on me, that I still remember most to this day:
Zito goes undercover as a boxing manager, that scene where his body is found in the shower with the needle in his arm - still get shivers from that one.
Tubbs tries to help the sex worker, who was underage? I think. She winds up shooting herself while Tubbs yells out "JACKIE!!!"
Crockett gets involved with a girl who is trying to help find her brother? Had David Bowies wife in it. The part where Tubbs is frantically trying to get a hold of Crockett to tell him "There is no brother" really disturbed me as a teenager.
And who can forget the UFO episode. HAHAHA!! That was the exact moment when Miami Vice jumped the shark. It was supposed to be a backdoor pilot to an x-files like show with the kids that were in it. Thankfully it was flushed, along with the ratings when that shit came out.
Tim-no@reddit
Whaaaaa?!? There was a UFO episode!?!
COINS_THAT_SUNK_TOO@reddit
Haha, didn't even have Crockett and Tubbs for more than like, 5 minutes of screen time. S4E7 , funny enough Chris Rocks first ever credited screen role.
Tim-no@reddit
I still HAVE to see it!!!
92037@reddit
If you do streaming tv and are on the US, Pluto TV runs Miami Vice everyday. I watch it now and laugh at how awesome I thought it was. Still is, but the acting……
anarkust@reddit
I'm at the tail end of season 2 on my first rewatch since the 80s.
Tim-no@reddit
Ooooo! I might have to follow your lead
bnx01@reddit
Didn’t watch it much, but I did roll up the sleeves on my sports coat.
FriendRaven1@reddit
I have almost all the music on my phone, and have the DVD set. Big fan.
PrettylightedUMphrek@reddit
Number 1 new show!!
rick912@reddit
If you helped Crockett and Tubbs you were good as dead.
Substantial_Risk_955@reddit
I applied to the University of Miami because of this show. My parents figured it out and told me to fuck off about going there.
Drawn66@reddit
I only watched it occasionally when it was actually on. I think it was on Friday night or something, and I’d be at a friends house and it would be on and we’d casually watch it or something.
Later in the mid 1990s, it became syndicated and I would watch it every night after work and got more into it then. I think it’s held up pretty well.
jne57@reddit
Crockett's Theme by Jan Hammer fucking rules!
digital_mystic23@reddit
I watched this with my dad back then and loved it.
Ok-Possibility-1206@reddit
I just found it streaming and started a beginning-to-end rewatch. I grew up in Miami and literally lived through that era of Miami, so my favorite aspect of the show is seeing my childhood city as it was back then (the sets and the people, not the lifestyle or anything like that).
The show is fun. It's occasionally gritty. The procedural aspect is completely unrealistic (these cops killed people every week), and some of the characters (I'm looking at you, Noogie) are absolutely over the top ridiculous. A lot of the acting (not all of it) is worse than a high school drama production... but still, I love it. It’s a piece of my adolescence not only because of the 80s scenery, but because I remember the cultural impact it had at the time, especially in miami itself.
ambientdiscord@reddit
What high school??

"this show aged really well".
So the follow-up to your title is
I used to love this show. I still do, but I used to too.
Old_Ad8212@reddit (OP)
I think I meant to say I used to love this show and was pleasantly surprised to see it available for streaming and found that strangely it’s still an enjoyable watch
gatoenvestido@reddit
It was a Mitch Hedburg joke.
ambientdiscord@reddit
As someone who grew up in Miami (MSRSH c/o 87, yo!), it’s both super fun and weird watching it now. I didn’t watch it back in the day, (the scripts were bad, the acting outside of the principles, appalling. Also, Friday night) It’s fun seeing all of my old haunts, but it’s craaaaazy sexist and those scripts haven’t gotten better.
BTW, Don Johnson was a giant dick hole, but Philip Michael Thomas was sweet as hell!
Didthatyesterday2@reddit
I absolutely loved the soundtrack! Smugglers blues!
Some-Cartographer942@reddit
That and Biko from Peter Gabriel, i don't remember it getting much airplay but i remember it in the show.

Ok_Echo_6528@reddit
I still love this show.
ShadowCass@reddit
I have to admit I enjoyed it at the time, but it did not age well at all.
pantstoaknifefight2@reddit
Oh c'mon! When Edward James OImos went all ninja with a sword to Kate Bush music to protect the Russian chick from 2010: The Year We Make Contact? That was peak GenX tv if you were home on a Friday night.
ShadowCass@reddit
OK, I’ll even admit that I loved it at the time! It’s just that I don’t feel like it holds up today. It’s not one of the shows that I would binge/stream
A-more-splendid-life@reddit
Im doing a Tubi rewatch too. My first thought was “why didn’t PMT become a bigger star?”
There’s so many scenes and episodes where he just out cools and out acts Don Johnson.
NY2GA23@reddit
I totally agree. Per wiki, he was making $25K to Johnson’s $30K for seasons 1-2. Starting in season 3, PMT was bumped to $50K and Johnson to $90K.
scorpionspalfrank@reddit
So quintessentially high 80's from a pop culture perspective.
MaximumJones@reddit
🎵I can feel it coming in the air tonight

Upset_Peace_6739@reddit
I would leave a party to go upstairs to my apartment to watch it then rejoin the party. Someone once asked if they could come. I said no. No distractions allowed!
And I changed into the Miami Vice t-shirt I had - just the title of the show. 60F for reference and Don Johnson still makes me tingle. At least in the edited photos approved by his team.
FeedbackBroad1116@reddit
I just started watching it, too. Damn, Tubbs had a great wardrobe.

Oh yeah this is the only thing that kept me in on a Friday night before the club but just for a point of reference we're all of those endings in that show sad or is it just me.
TripMaster478@reddit
A lot of the plot lines were pretty dark.
WolfThick@reddit
Then I try to get into Nash Bridges but he was just I don't know his character just wasn't relatable anymore.
HeavyTea@reddit
Yes! Fridays! Too young for the bar so...
TripMaster478@reddit
This show was the best. The music was extraordinary. I still remember one of the local FM stations (the same one that was owned by the channel that carried the show - CFRN in our case) simulcasting the sound so you could listen to it cranked up and in stereo. Cutting edge at the time.
FormerLaugh3780@reddit
I still watch reruns on PlutoTV.
snark_maiden@reddit
Friday night appointment TV for me! And I was brutally mocked by kids at school for having a picture of Don Johnson in my locker 😄
Sinja_Minx@reddit
Great cameos and soundtrack.
Familiar-Court-4217@reddit
Stupid and unrealistic.
thisusernameavailabl@reddit
Phenomenal music throughout the entire series. At least on its first run. Think they’ve run into licensing problems with subsequent releases over the years?
gingerthetrailpup@reddit
I am embarrassed to say it was Night Rider for me
Part of it was the car. And the other part was because it was something just my dad and I did
Old_Ad8212@reddit (OP)
My wife literally said the same thing when she saw what I was watching. I loved Knight Rider too, NGL
CursorTN@reddit
They recently released it on Blu-ray. It’s crazy to watch it in HD!
FlyingTerrier@reddit
Recently rewatched a lot of it. I found it quite gritty and confronting. While modern TV is more violent it seems actually calmer and less real.
Old_Ad8212@reddit (OP)
Like, the “special effects” of the shoot outs were obviously super dated, but everything else is really watchable
Alansmithee69@reddit
Edward James Olmos - highest paid actor per word during the 80’s

You may have been cool, OP, but you were, nor will you ever be, as cool as these two cats.
To be fair, neither will I
