Should I change my oil after 2200 miles?

It’s been 4 months since my last oil change but I’ve only driven it 2200 miles. I received an email from my auto shop saying my service is due. I drive a 2024 Audi RS3 and it has around 17,000 miles on it.

That’s a short window of change. 6k I do my 6 series bmw. It’s got low mileage too not used a lot.

I waited until 6,000 miles for my last oil change and the guy said I need to come a lot sooner bc my oil was black and I’m gonna burn my engine
OkTechnician4610@reddit
Did you see the oil ? Could have been a bit of a fib to get you to pay up for oil change. Diesels make oil black more so than petrol
qkdsm7@reddit
If it were my Rs3 it'd likely get it done at 6 months if it's still being driven that rarely.
El_Pollo_Del-Mar@reddit
Why? Oil doesn't just magically get old and die in 6 months.
qkdsm7@reddit
I agree. But whatever contaminants are in it soaking, aren't going away either. Less than the cost of one fuel tank of fuel isn't much to spend 2x/year on a performance application.
As I said, NBD but "if it was mine."
I have a similar output per displacement late DI turbo car that since it's seen zero ethanol, have been ok to go now.... 20 months on 1300 miles on this oil, and will change it next month when I start driving it more regularly again.
If you'll sell it before 40-70k, who cares about it long term, right?
I've done oil lab tests at 1500 and 15000 miles in a variety of applications --- none of it is one size fits all.

5k miles or 1 year
DFLDrew@reddit
This. If you like pissing away money.
metricmindedman@reddit
waste of good oil to change yearly regardless of mileage unless the vehicle is regularly short-tripped.
lazarinewyvren@reddit
What's it like living somewhere the temperature and humidity never changes? Because in the real world, that matters, and you absolutely are introducing water into an engine with changing seasons.
Individual-Area7121@reddit
depends on how you drive.
Miller335@reddit
My record of owning many 20+ year vehicles with 200k+ miles says differently but you do you. I'll keep doing me.

Bulky_Employ_4259@reddit
What does your owner’s manual say?
New-Proof-1185@reddit
If in doubt, change it. Oil changes are cheaper than engines.
VW-MB-AMC@reddit
That should not be necessary. We change our oil at the manufacturers recommended interval or once a year, depending on what comes first.
JCC114@reddit
Average care is driven 15k miles a year, 4 months is 1/3 of the year so 5k miles. 5k miles is a good interval. Despite what people say 10k-20k miles on synthetic in a modern engine is a bad idea. If you spend anytime on here you will have seen tons of people talking about failed turbos or timing chains even though followed manufacturers recommend intervals. Most engines are turbo now, higher compression ratio, much higher temps, this is not comparing synthetic oil to non-synthetic, as non-synthetic is not usable in these engines. In a vehicle that can take non-synthetic? Good synthetic oil will last 20k miles. On a high demand modern engine? 5k, or be prepared to spend big $s on new turbos earlier then you would of had to or replace stretched timing chain(s) that got to hot. Synthetic oil is probably 5x better than non-synthetic, but those engines can not run non-synthetic at all cause they are way harder on oil. So oil got way better, but we made engines that wear the oil out faster.
WorkerEquivalent4278@reddit
Go at least 10 months or 7500 miles.
metricmindedman@reddit
7500 miles on a high performance direct injection turbo car is a bad idea unless you've confirmed via used oil analysis at, say, 5k, that the oil still has life in it.
SailingSpark@reddit
It depends on how you drive. I have a fun car that might only get driven once a week. However, when I do drive it, it gets a good workout. If you are only driving a few miles and parking it up, I would change it every six months. If you get it good and hot every time you take it out, once a year.
doc-sci@reddit
No…read your owners manual instead of asking people you don’t know.
Shot-Counter7607@reddit
Run 'er another 800 miles.
Rich6658@reddit
3-5k
tads73@reddit
Nah, your good
tempthrow9999999@reddit
RS 3 is 10k miles or 1 year with synthetic oil.
Heavy_Gap_5047@reddit
Yes, miles aren't the only thing that matters.
Informal_Ad4399@reddit
Unless they've been idling a ton, no.
Miles, engine hours, then time sitting parked.
Heavy_Gap_5047@reddit
If it's been parked for 4 months sure, But if it was started 4 times a day and only driven 4 miles each time, then the oil is toast.
OP didn't specific, so changing it is cheap insurance, most of all for a turbo Audi.
Tony-cums@reddit
4 months. Still no.
VivienM7@reddit
Is it different for RS models? I thought Audi's oil change recommendation was 1 year or 15K kms (10K miles in the US... which doesn't match exactly), whichever comes first.
My guess is that some accountant had this reminder system designed based on nothing remotely connected to the recommended maintenance schedule for this vehicle.
UIUC_grad_dude1@reddit
If they used synthetic oil you are good for at least 6 months.
oppositelock27@reddit
No.
