Does peeing in bottles really save you that much time?
Posted by Fibrosis5O@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 211 comments
I’m not a trucker while I’m a full-time driver I recognize that’s an entirely different thing and especially compared to a long haul trucker and what that said I mean no disrespect when I ask this, but are you really saving that much time by peeing and bottles?
And a follow up question is the time that you saved by peeing in bottles and skipping bathroom breaks how do you utilize that extra time? And lastly, if you must pee in jugs, why can’t you at least dump it out somewhere and not make it someone else’s problem or nature and I understand not all of you do this.
Evil_Space_Penguins@reddit
Plus it's just kinda funny.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Well, peeing in bottles or bags is more about if theres even a bathroom.
Also, not too many people are willing to wake up in the middle of the night, get fully dressed and maybe walk a quarter mile to a bathroom possibly in freezing weather. I mean, that's why chamber pots were invented before modern plumbing. Even though they had functional outhouses... outside.

Toilet bags plus a gelling agent
CBTwitch@reddit
I use a double trash bag myself. Cheaper than buying new Coleman bags for my camp toilet.
Violet_Apathy@reddit
I buy them in bulk from Amazon. Less leaks.
jjdajetman@reddit
I mean I just use a cat box. dehydrates the poop too
Feisty-Tomato8812@reddit
Supposedly, so do our schools.
Keepup863@reddit
That was one school that had an active shooer emergency kit that had cat litter so kids could relieve themselves if there was a day long lock down
LilFunyunz@reddit
Is that actually how that bullshit rumor got started?
Feisty-Tomato8812@reddit
Yes this is how it started. Schools have/had 5 gallon buckets with a portable shelter so they could relieve themselves in an emergency situation. The buckets contained a pod you would put a packet of litter in and a biohazard bag the litter and pod would be disposed in too.
unclestickles@reddit
Hahah I work construction but I started a new job a few days ago and 5 minutes through the door the customer was ranting about kitty litters at the high school. Okay grandma, time to close Facebook.
External-Reading-101@reddit
The bags have the gelling agent and a seal
DCHammer69@reddit
I have these in all of our vehicles.
Age is a bitch. And occasionally my brain decides that I need to evacuate NOW. Not 5 minutes from now. No, within the next 30 fucking seconds so pull over on the side of the interstate or use a bag.
External-Reading-101@reddit
Yes, they make camping pee bags. Check amazon. We got them for emergencies. I go with my man and one time on a back road there was no bathroom for 3 HOURS. I was so desperate we had to stop and use a cup. I filled 32 ounces. I nearly threw up from holding it so long. Sorry if that’s gross but I was getting sick holding my bladder and there was no bathroom around.
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Uh, if you were on a “back road” somewhere, why not just go behind a tree?
External-Reading-101@reddit
As a female with back issues (yeah, yeah tell me how i shouldn’t be in the truck -_-), squatting behind a tree is a little hard.
trucker151@reddit
Wait how did u get a license....? I thought women cant drive.... Kazakhstan top scientist proved its dangerous for women to drive because the brain is size of squirrel.

As a female trucker with spinal injuries too, we get it done! Might not look exactly like the fellas, but we get it done!
External-Reading-101@reddit
thank you. i haven’t been in the truck recently though. i wouldn’t drive, i have epilepsy and broke my back. i just had a spinal fusion 3/17/26.
trucker151@reddit
Thats not much better than a bottle.... as long as u throw it away and not toss it out a window its not that big a deal. Plus if u were driving all day and u were sleeping and its freezing outside, a tree seems like a significantly worse option. A back road can be a highway or farm land in broad daylight where everyone will see u. I wouldn't put it past some prick state cop to give u a fine for that. Or worse, some indecent exposure charge...
Tricky_Big_8774@reddit
Back road means no truck stops. Could be a US highway. Or maybe they were in Kansas.
Active-Tadpole810@reddit
😅😂 grew up in KS...now I live in Michigan, about the same. We do deliveries 30 miles from the closest place that has a bathroom. And rarely is there a port o let , always carry a bottle.
Crashcra1@reddit
I grew up in SW Kansas & it is not uncommon to see someone peeing on the side of the road, you can’t see them pee, but you know what they are doing. lol
As a teenager driving a tractor or laying irrigation pipe in a field out in the middle of know where, what are you suppose to do? Just pee wherever. lol
OTR driver now & I use the windshield washing fluid jugs for emergencies. They seal well & hold a lot of piss. lol
Tricky_Big_8774@reddit
No trees to pee behind.
Crashcra1@reddit
Car door on opposite side of traffic is what most use. If in the middle of a field, who cares. It tractor trailer, between tractor & trailer on opposite side of traffic. Easy peasy.
kaloric@reddit
And often no solid shoulders to stop on, either.
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Lots of places to pee on the side of the road somewhere in that situation as well. Reality is sometimes that’s a necessity of this job and is going to be necessary.
CaliThunder559@reddit
I buy bags from Amazon that are single use urine bags that seal. Usually use them if I wake up in the middle of the night or at a shippers-receiver with no bathroom
External-Reading-101@reddit
that is what my man gets for me when i ride along. i don’t drive, i just go along. my epilepsy and back injury (broke my back from a fall from a seizure) have me out of work.
CaliThunder559@reddit
Yeah i bring either my wife or daughter with me and they use them more than I do
Riyeko@reddit
Yeah when I first started driving truck, my sister's boyfriends grandmother told me she used to drive. So I felt like I wanted to pick her brain a bit.
She told me, half a cup of fine cat litter, small amount of dish or laundry soap. Pee in it. Then trash. Soap got rid of the smell and the litter clumped your pee.
I ended up not doing that instead and got a funnel and a bottle. I learned how to pee like a dude.
scottiethegoonie@reddit
Most sane bottle pisser response.
trucker151@reddit
Yea its one of the things you have to deal with when it comes to jobs like this.... untill ur in that situation urself its easy to say "why do u this kinda gross thing". I dont shit in the woods but if I was a lumberjack cutting down trees in the middle of nowhere... well.... im not driving a hour or more to take a shit...
I dunno... maybe its cause I was in the army, spent years in Iraq, Afghanistan, central African republic, Syria.... taking a piss in a bottle when its cold af outside doesn't seem like a big deal....
Throwing them out the window or in some random place is nasty tho.. just have the decency to throw the shit out and its all good.

If you’re driving in the middle of nowhere pull over on an off ramp, turn your cab to the left so it’s at an angle & no one can see the passenger side, get out & piss in the dirt or desert. Simple & easy
trucker151@reddit
When I see a post like this im reminded of the trailerpark boys... piss jugs man.... fucking greasey.
You either have to drive a truck and piss in bottles or you have to do one last job... the big dirty.
VirgoAugust@reddit
Depends on the truck stop, parking, and what you're hauling. Trying to find parking spot and properly back into a spot at a crowded truck stop can take sometime.
noplaywellwithothers@reddit
No, I am a girl. I do pee in screw top Tupperware. Poor it out in the shower, and scrub it in the morning. In the long run, it doesn't save me time. It saves me from unsavory experiences. Pissing myself at a third party restacker, when the broker doesn't answer after my mega picked it up, for 8 hours. Being raped /grabbed by these guys trafficking kids at the rest/yruck stop at 3am. It isn't ABOUT SAVING TIME. It's lack of facilities. Ask any night local driver, that disarms his local shop for delivery. Second alarm right? No access to the bathroom. Ya can't park a semi at every MacDonald's!
Beautiful-Slice166@reddit
2am, small highway, no shoulder, no truck stop for 80 miles....yeah man im peeing however i can
Deodorized@reddit
Brother let me break it down real simple.
It's 3am, youve been asleep for 4 hours. You have another 4 hours to sleep. You gotta piss and it ain't gonna wait till morning.
You have 2 options.
Do you get out of bed, get fully dressed, shirt, pants, socks, shoes, walk roughly 2-4 minutes to the bathroom in temps anywhere between -20 and 110f,, be scream-welcomed to loves, take your piss, walk 2-4 minutes back to your truck, get undressed, lay back down, then not be able to sleep because you're fully awake at this point?
Or, do you roll over, piss in a widemouth Gatorade bottle, take a little sip, and go back to sleep?
Answer's real obvious to me.

Water? Drink coffee bro. That's a pretty big health issue, usually it's like your 70 and need to start getting up in the middle of the night and transition to adult diapers after that

ArtisticAd9404@reddit
Saving time is part of it, but sometimes it’s just a lot more convenient. I sleep naked. If I wake up at 2am, last thing I wanna do is get dressed and walk a quarter mile to and from the truck stop. Then throw in snow or rain.
I’m back at my terminal every 2-3 days, so typically I will empty it out into the toilet there, as there’s usually no one else around the time of night I’m there. If I do throw them out on the road, I usually throw them in the dumpsters they have on Indiana toll road pull offs.
RectumRavager69@reddit
You're supposed to save them for the "really nice" truck stops and throw them away in the trash can at the pump after making sure the cap on the bottle is "really tight and secure".
F1at1iner@reddit
Maybe your joking, but only pos do that who don't recycle plastic's. The minimum wage truck stop employees really shouldn't have to deal with the bs either.
RectumRavager69@reddit
I've wanted to do it several times at some particularly dogshit locations but decided against it because it's corporate being cheap fuckers that's why those places suck and usually not the actual people working there. I actually dump my piss jugs in the grass behind the trailers or down a storm drain if it's available and I use them for months before I throw them out.
I don't recycle them though. A lot of that stuff gets hand sorted and that just seems cruel to do to those people.
squarewavve@reddit
this is such a kind, thoughtful, and principled comment. we need more rectumravager69s in the world
The-Shartist@reddit
This is the way. Don't make your piss someone else's problem.
ArtisticAd9404@reddit

The-Shartist@reddit
Don't use water jugs. They crack and leak. Use old coolant, oil, or wiper fluid jugs. Much thicker plastic.
BeGoodMike125@reddit
Nalgene bottles are made for this in my opinion.
roxxylynn@reddit
Why don’t y’all just get a camping toilet with double doodie bags from Amazon… it’s a life safer … I don’t recommend taking a crap in it though…that might be a little rough… but the bags have stuff to cover the urine smell.
CloakedGod926@reddit
I do this. Also get pee powder which gels up the urine to make it easier to throw away later. You can shit in them, but I only do that in an emergency
mewikime@reddit
Get a 5 gallon bucket and an attachable toilet seat. Line it with a trash bag and throw in a couple of scoops of kitty litter.
The-Shartist@reddit
Or just use an old gallon jug instead of buying stupid crap. If you're a woman use a coffee can.

ChemicalWriting6225@reddit
I work ports, we sit in line unable to move or leave the truck while in the ports, sometimes upto 6 hrs. So yes peeing in a bottle is a necessity.
banana_commando@reddit
I think op thinks we're passing in bottles while driving. I don't about you guys but I fucking don't. But definitely pissed in a bottle a few times to avoid the long hike across a truck parking lot or to not piss myself.
Moist-Ad9272@reddit
Yes. Pulling over on a ramp or rest area significantly cuts down on time over stopping at a truck stop and walking in to use the rest room. Pulling into a truck stop, parking, walking in, doing the business, walking out, leaving the truck stop and merging back up to highway speed takes roughly 15 minutes if you’re lucky. Pulling over and just whipping out a bottle will only take 2-4 minutes.
Is it the most beautiful part about trucking? No. Is it useful in a pinch? Yes. I’ll stop at a truck stop if I’ve got time to kill but if I’m in a crunch, I’m just pulling off and reaching for a bottle. Sorry not sorry.
CosbysLongCon24@reddit
I feel like if you need to piss in bottles to save time as a driver, you should find a better company to work for.
shopboss1@reddit
The jugs are so you can pee while driving. Scootch forward on the seat and let her eat.
Ricemunchr@reddit
i’ve pissed in a gatorade bottle twice waking up needing piss bad, but if i’m in a middle of a drive with no real rest area or facilities a little pull out to piss and 2 minute stretch doesn’t hurt. (the get out and stretch and walk a little bit really helps when i feel drowsy.)
some people say yeah stopping kills time. to piss takes maybe 5 minutes you have to slow down pull over, get out piss, rinse your hand(if you ain’t nasty) and get back slowly onto the road. if you ask a super trucker they probably say you gotta piss while driving, TIME IS MONEY.

If you consume under 20 carbs a day you will most likely be in ketosis in 2 days to a week. Google says less than 50 carbs a day, but I stay under 20 just to make sure. There are test strips for testing your urine. Some pharmacies have them and you can order them online. You will piss a lot at first then it tapers off. It did for me anyway after a week.

Well if I pull off to a truck stop, quickest im getting back on road is 25 mins. If I hit an offramp, its still gonna cost me 10 mins. So I dont use bottles, I use a medical urine bottle.
sunsy215@reddit
They got disposable pee bags now that solidify as soon as u use it
Justin_92@reddit
I like to stay hydrated. I drink roughly 100-120 ounces of water per day. That’s a lot of pee stops. Or I could just piss while I’m driving. I know it’s time to get up and stretch my legs when the bottle is full. Get up, empty it, walk around for 30 minutes, get back in, fill it up again, boom, shift is over. Time for sleep.
The-Shartist@reddit
I remember one trainer when I started out who said he didn't like to drink water all day so he didn't have to stop and piss too much. Terrible logic, terrible for your health. Why stop? Dehydration is one of the worst things you can do to your body. Some experts recommend an ounce of water per pound of body weight.
Emotical@reddit

Shit I do it while driving 😂 I pee multiple times in a day like any normal person would and the time adds up to losing 30 min or maybe even more having to slow down gradually, then pull into a truck stop, get back in the truck, get back on the highway which also takes time to get up to speed etc. Sometimes I can’t even park up anywhere besides on the shoulder which I prefer not to do simply because it’s unsafe.
External_Result_8560@reddit
I’m long haul and drink a lot of water. 4 piss breaks per day usually so I just hop to the side of the road, piss in my jug and I’m off. Saves me about 30 minutes per day and that is 30 mins of extra sleep
meizhong@reddit

tidyshark12@reddit
Right? Like you're already pulled over... the difference is that now you don't get piss all over the inside of the truck and you don't have to carry the jug with you... what? 😅
vault151@reddit
I assume that means he pulls over to the shoulder and doesn’t physically get out of the truck.
F1at1iner@reddit
Pull the truck over to the side of the road....smh
CannibalAnus@reddit
I used to do it when i first woke up or woke up during the 10 hours, so much more convenient to not leave the truck at all especially if it’s extremely cold or blazingly hot out.
n2locarz@reddit
Yes it does. I buy the pack of urine bottles from Amazon and properly dispose of the contents when stopped. I can't stand seeing piss all over the fuel islands. And the piss bottles left all over - That's terrible
Captain_Wag@reddit
For people who live at home taking a piss is a simple 10 second walk to the bathroom. For truckers you have to walk to the truck stop (if there is one) and be greeted by a person and it's usually cold out at night. God help if you if it's a loves even at 3am it's "HELLO WELCOME TO LOVES!!!" It's more about convenience than anything else. When I wake up in the middle of the night with a full bladder I just want to piss and go back to bed so I can get as much sleep as I can.
Capital-Sorbet652@reddit
Think of it this way. By the time you turn off the interstate, drive the half mile or mile to the truck stop, get into the parking lot, find a parking spot, go inside and piss, and then get back in your truck, drive back to the on ramp, and get back on the interstate; you’re 15 or 20 miles behind. Every stop you make in a big rig takes time. Every move you make is slooooow.
That being said, I just hold it until I’m at my destination. I’m young enough I can hold it for 4 to 6 hours. But I get why some guys do it.
And there’s no excuse for dumping piss jugs everywhere. It’s disgusting and guys need to learn to use a dumpster.
the_clam_farmer@reddit
Holding it is really bad on your plumbing, essentially you'll end up in diapers sooner rather than later. I'll pull off the highway and park on the on-ramp on the opposite side to hit the bottle real quick, the moment I get the urge.
SCORPDOGGY@reddit
yes
jacklisterr@reddit
when i was driving, pulling over at a truck stop was a minimum 15 minute delay. By the time you get off, park, do your thing, pull out, back on highway
Riyeko@reddit
As a woman .... Bottles for me.
I'm not getting dressed in freezing cold weather just to pee when it's going to be a minimum 4 hour ordeal because I can't get back to sleep lol
John9250@reddit
Another reason is when you’re going down the road there may not be a rest area nearby (usually the easiest option) so you’d need a truck stop. You need to pull off the freeway and deal with whatever traffic, stop lights/signs, etc. then you gotta fight your way through the truck stop and people are fucking dumb. In the way, can’t back into a spot, speeding to get around everyone first, blocking fuel lanes when you just wanna pull through and go inside. So if you’re on a tight time schedule you could easily lose 20-30 minutes when you could’ve just pulled over, pissed in a bottle and kept moving.
DieselPunk97@reddit
I don’t understand the bottle thing.
If I gotta pee that bad, I’m pissing on my drive tire lol
Pulling over and pissing on your tire or under your trailer is WAAYY faster than pulling into a truck stop, changing duty status, walk to the bathroom, pee, then get back and drive to the highway you came from.
2?
Those are for truck stops, I don’t care HOW low on time I am, I’m finding a truck stop.

It was such a mental thing for me, like most of the time I thought that if I went off the highway and took a piss somewhere dispatch would be angry, I don't know why I thought that way...I had to convince myself that it wasn't a big deal. Fractured-Justice@reddit
Yeah it depends on how much you pee in a day, like I drink a lot of water, And depending on where I stop each stop adds an extra 10 to 20 minutes to your trip and the time it takes to slow down get off the interstate park, the truck walk inside. Do your business go back to the truck and get back on the road. And then in the middle of the night it's not even about saving time. It's about. I don't feel like putting on all of my clothes to go walk inside

Honestly, the time it takes to get off the highway, pull into a truck stop, walk in to pee, walk back out, drive back to the highway can add anywhere from 15-20 minutes to the eta on my GPS.

Simple answer:Yes. Next dumb question 😂
Leaf-Stars@reddit
Yup
HollowMonty@reddit
For me it's not about saved time. It's about, i just drive for 10hs, I'm tired, and i don't want to walk half a mile to take a piss.
Even more so in winter and summer.
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
Yes. Yes it does. I'm on blood pressure medication. If I stopped every time I need to have a slash I'd never get anywhere.
Slater_8868@reddit
If you drink it, you save a lot of time because you don't have to stop for the bathroom OR to get anything to drink!

My trainer peed in a bottle while we were rolling. I didn't know any different. Thought it might be a normal thing to do in trucking.

People that work 8 hrs per day have a lot of time to piss, and can get paid to piss. People that work 11 -14 hrs per day don't. If you get 10 hrs off and sleep where you can't just pop up and take 5 or 10 steps to take a piss, a piss jug is an essential piece of equipment.
Tank52086@reddit
Yes, especially if you aren’t gonna make it to a proper restroom.
Overall_Reputation83@reddit
maybe if you have a weak bladder. I've never really struggled with only pissing on my break or at customers.
december151791@reddit
When you're on your 10 or 34 and parked a quarter of a mile from the nearest bathroom, yes.
When calls and there's no rest area for another 50 miles so going to the bathroom would require getting all the way off the interstate and making multiple turns and stops to get into a truck stop, then backing into a space if it's too busy to just pull all the way through the fuel island, yes.
Knarknarknarknar@reddit
I only do it in two circumstances: No bathroom. In sleeper while codriver is driving. I wake up to pee while rolling and sometimes it can't wait. So I use the jug. My codrivers have peed while driving, and if we are pushing to maximize miles it maybe saves us 10 to 20 miles per piss.
60mph = 1 mile a minute.
Slowing down to about 30mph to exit, navigate traffic, maybe sit at a light or two, parking lot bullshit, then pee, maybe go shopping, navigate traffic, maybe sit at another light, speed back up to 60mph.
Choose to be dehydrated, stop less, or piss in a jug. I dont do it while driving, but I get it.
RectumRavager69@reddit
They save a good bit of time. Let's say you just pulled off onto a highway rest area. You're bursting for a monster piss and your likely arrival time is going to be about ten minutes before the deadline. Do you put the parking brakes on, stand up, turn around so nobody can see your pecker through the windows and take a half step into the bunk, piss in a washing fluid jug and fill damn near half of it in the process, give your bellend a light shake over the opening so you don't get piss in your underwear, cap it, then sit back down in the seat after putting your cock away and push the brakes in and get the fuck out back on the highway all in three minutes;
OR do you take eight minutes running into the bathroom at the rest area and back without even washing your hands. Which means you're fucked for your appointment time if you so much as have to wait at a red light. Piss jugs save time. They're also really nice for when the weather sucks or it's late at night or you're in a sketchy shithole with wonderful people.
mrsclausemenopause@reddit
A truck stop bathroom break is a 20 minute delay on a good day and often longer. I wont use a bottle while driving but cold nights and stops without a bathroom are getting bottle usage. Twice now I've thrown a bottle at someone but every other one has made it to dumpster.
tidyshark12@reddit
Takes 30 seconds to stop on a ramp. 30 seconds to pee, max. 30 seconds to get going again.
It doesn't save you enough time, to say the least.
96fordman03@reddit
Still a lot faster than; pulling off the road, parking, going into to pee, walking out to your truck, and then driving back onto the freeway.
pianodude01@reddit
Peeing in bottles is really just for at night
IAMATruckerAMA@reddit
How would you know when they do? If 99% of drivers that piss in jugs dumped them out in the middle of nowhere you'd still see the 1% that don't and think none of them do
tidyshark12@reddit
No.

I use water bottles for when it's late at night on my 10 hour or somewhere with no restrooms. I like to use the restroom during my working hours to have extra time to stretch my legs, I feel like it's better for my health that way.
There's been plenty of times where I'm low on time on my clock though and if I'd not taken as long at a stop for the restroom, doing an equipment check, walking around a store, securing my load, etc, I would've been able to make the next stop further down the road that would've put me further ahead for the next day if I'd just pissed in a bottle at times and it irks me thinking about it at the time lol but it's not that serious where I have to run around my truck doing an "equipment check" and pissing in a bottle every time. F that. Unless you're a bull hauler, then I'd understand.
Every thing adds up out here when you're trying to make money though.
I try to run my schedule tight, precise, and to the minute while not overstressing and being in a huge rush that it's a detriment to my health or cleanliness. I take showers on my 30s or make time for them now instead of going up to 3 days without a shower as a flatbed driver like I used to when I was younger and newer, what was I thinking lol.
The one's that always piss in the bottles are probably owner ops that actually get the full value of being paid by the mile and are trying to retire early, who knows.

As a team driver, not having my co driver have to stop so I can pee is a time saver.. also I don't have to be eye blasted by bright lights or daylight and screw up my sleep schedule.
Wooden_Plane3766@reddit
It’s better than pissing by the catwalk and smelling up the truck stop parking lot. Not only that but you don’t have to climb in and out the truck in adverse weather just to relieve yourself. Saves time, energy, and grants privacy
freudsdriver@reddit
I'm not waking up, getting dressed, walking a 1/4 mile, pee, walk another 1/4 mile, get undressed, try to go back to sleep.

I'm a team, so the truck is (usually) moving. I'm not waking up, and telling my co driver to find the next truck stop or rest area.

It's not always a time saver, I have pick ups that don't have a bathroom to use.
New_Low_2902@reddit
Its about waiting until the last possible second and the options becoming pissing myself or using the bottle.
overpaidlazytrucker@reddit
I don't piss in bottles but yes it would save time. It take me a minute to pull into a rest area/text stop and a minute to drive out of the rest area/text stop plus the time it takes me to either piss outside or go in rest area. The extra time would be spent driving.
