Hi!! I visited Sarajevo before but this didn’t happen in the couple of cafes I have been to.
Does this actually happen?
SerbianHustle@reddit
Not a smoker, but I might as smoke if offered this way. Give me a turkish (domestic) coffee, baklava and a cigarette. It must feel like being on cloud9.
SoftwareSource@reddit
Replace baklava with rahat lokum and that is basically on the picture there :)
SerbianHustle@reddit
Kind off prefer baklava tho...
wtfisthissssssssssss@reddit (OP)
Not a smoker here too but 100% would smoke it if it was given to me with Bosnian coffee

Young_Owl99@reddit
That tradition is actually exist here as well but almost lost and forgotten.
bekabekica@reddit
In Serbia too, of course we got that custom for you but it still exists and I love it
Young_Owl99@reddit
You got that custom for us or from us :)
That’s an important difference lol
SlatkiMicek@reddit
Oh hello mr. invader, thanks for making my country look like a croissant
Pijuuuuuuuuuup@reddit
You want to start ww3?
darbrja@reddit
Is turkey allowed nothing
Young_Owl99@reddit
It was a small innocent joke :)
The5thGreatApe@reddit
Anything and nothing is a joke between Balkans
Young_Owl99@reddit
Though it wasn’t even agressive. It was a reference to we getting kicked out :)
Anyway lesson learned lol.
Pijuuuuuuuuuup@reddit
Hah, it's cool. I was also joking my Turkish bro 😎
Young_Owl99@reddit
The comment really did downvoted that’s why I felt the need to explain lol.
bekabekica@reddit
Hahah, sorry brother honest mistake 😂 although I see what you mean, it could be seen as convenient in some manner🫣
Syrmin@reddit
Never heard that before tbh
Le_Fish_In_Lava@reddit
fr its so balkan
SILE999@reddit
Lol. I'm romanian and we say "siktir" to people as in "fuck off". Maybe our countries fought in the past, but we've never been closer as in today
Panceltic@reddit
Isn't siktir more like "fuck off"?
Any-Sport-1094@reddit
Yes.It is a term often used for those who occupy a space unnecessarily.Normally, three cups of coffee are made.First, welcome; second, we had a chat; third, the chat is over; we've talked enough, now you can go.
SlatkiMicek@reddit
Bosnia is fuckin awesome.
PrudentCaterpillar74@reddit
Try to beat this
wtfisthissssssssssss@reddit (OP)
Is that a tomato? 🍅
PrudentCaterpillar74@reddit

wtfisthissssssssssss@reddit (OP)
Wow I have been drinking coffee for like 20 years! Never with tomato! Gotta try this.
Kenichi2233@reddit
Happened to me in Paris
redseptember1994@reddit
Yes this is in Travnik. The name of the place is "Lutvina Kahva" something
ManualBookworm@reddit
Just to add. It's not common. This, I have seen only in Travnik.
the_defiant@reddit
It actually says the name on the box of matches if you zoom in!
Gulliver_1978@reddit

Substratas@reddit
Idk why but this feels so peak Balkan. This & a burrnesha leaving a cigarette on her father’s grave.
wtfisthissssssssssss@reddit (OP)
What is a burrnesha? Forgive my ignorance
Substratas@reddit
Women living as men in the Albanian Alps.
wtfisthissssssssssss@reddit (OP)
Oh wow! I never heard of them. Thank you for teaching me something new today!!
Not sure why would anyone want to live like a man tho lol
bella17b@reddit
So Albania traditionally had a very patriarchal society. It’s a combo of reasons but if there was a lack of men in a household (example, all female children or something happens to the father or the sons or there’s a blood feud), then a female child could volunteer to live life as a man for the rest of her life. Other scenario was that a female baby could’ve been brought up from birth to serve this role, but in more recent times, it was more of someone volunteering.
Basically, society is so patriarchal and tribal in structure that it was easier to take on a new gender role (woman to man) and live life that way until the end of one’s life than for a woman to be the head of the household while holding her gender identity.

Balkanity at next level! I like it.
Daex33@reddit
Overall it's rare, but it does happen. There are places where they sometimes offer.
Atlandios000@reddit
Some cafes in weird neighborhoods do this in Greece as well.
They serve a painkiller , a cigarette and a coffee.
noisy_turquoise@reddit
Never heard of this, can you drop some names?
Atlandios000@reddit
I remember one in Athens called Saligaros if I remember any other I will tell you.
Adventurous-Couple63@reddit
Were you perhaps drunk when you were offered this?
Salligaros is well-known for their food and raki (and live music events with plenty of alcohol). I would not call it a cafe.
Atlandios000@reddit
I've never bought it myself but I know it happens in many places.
Saligaros is the one I happen to have remembered.
Adventurous-Couple63@reddit
I have never seen it in my life (unless as a "cure" for hangover) and I was born and raised and live in Athens (Athens municipality, not the suburbs).
Standard-Pepper-6510@reddit

Bosnian coffee.. errm Turkish coffee*Coffee and that kind of cooking and serving spread to the world countries from ottomans and guess where it started Istanbul and Cairo firstly serves with Turkish delights especially 2 kinds with rose aroma or double cooked nuty.Tobacco is also a culture but it’s own and yes would be delightful with coffee. If you want to follow the traditional way you should take double cooked delights and near Samsun tobacco 😉😎Am Turkish citizen originally from Pristine yeah Albanian so the only these kind of offerings on our graves with vodka or rakija and cigarettes to honor the death .
J0hnnyBlazer@reddit
I had a seizure reading your post, recovered, read it again, had another one
No-Rain6792@reddit
Turks are not a kind of stealing or publishing stuff as traditional that’s our folk culture thing. You can happily digest it.Bosnian coffee culture can be very old but it’s not start of it nor uniq way of it.Ure doing mimics of Istanbul Beys way 😉
No-Rain6792@reddit
Greeks are tryin dilemma to try Baklava Ayran Yoghurt etc.. We like Bosnians and give guys & girls for marriage even lol do not enter wrong ways like Greek fabric owners. ps we like you komsi (greeks)in any way we miss old days 😉
Expensive-Swan-9553@reddit
Remember to thank Mexico for coffee :)
J0hnnyBlazer@reddit
Cool story bro. Coffee outdates turks by centuries, it originates in Ethiopia then Arabs started cultivating it in Mocca who perfected the roasting etc. Later it spread to turkey.
No-Rain6792@reddit
Instead umma am not ur bro first of all.You are a EU based country which refused Christianity against Islam. We know our culture w/e u accept or not it’s recorded in our libraries centuries ,thousands of years ago.You can try even German rewritining retrying German wiki stuff does not matter thousands if recordings won’t change and move to anywhere.Best way as American you can try to conquer Türkiye and I think there’s a record all the same in world libraries 🤣History existed by us with Chinese you can just .. lol 🤣🤣
J0hnnyBlazer@reddit
ok cool story bro
No-Rain6792@reddit
History is not a story lives and death matter if issues and no worries it’s all recorded safe in Istanbul 😉

Aspava restaurants in Ankara, at the end of the meal, waiters were offering a Marlboro red. I don't know if they still do that though
Adept-Donut-4229@reddit
Wow. Price of coffee must be up...
Taliskerhu@reddit
Turkish caffe is silly - nothing that's four sips can be very enjoyable coffee. I wonder how the Turks can successfully turn this tiny caffee into a social occasion.
Greeks are the real pashas of coffee - long, iced caffee that you you can drink for hours.
Yes,.I'm starting a coffee war
Tardosaur@reddit
It doesn't happen, ever
Last-Information-232@reddit
It literally does,
In Travnik
At Lutvo
humanistazazagrliti@reddit
These things happen from time to time when locals want to be extra nice to tourists in Bosnia or even if you're a regular at a bar and you've, for example, forgot (or "forgot") your cigarettes at home. But they're not a regular thing.
