If a garage switched out a working number plate light for a broken one from another vehicle can this be proven?

Went garage for new tyres, come back and have check number plate light on, was working before, now it isn't.

Overheard mechanic saying "fixed the numberplate light on the superb" mines not a superb.

Has el cunto switched mine out and can this be proven or am I up shit creek without a paddle?

In my experience if it's an MOT and you buy the lightbulb from them they will fit it for free or even give you it for free. At least on motorbikes.

Very little, last time we had the mot done they changed some bulbs and charged nothing for the bulbs or changing them.

It's so low reward, this didn't happen, the world isn't out to get you.

When my dad ran a garage he wouldn't charge for bulb replacements, but even if they did, it's just not worth it to try and scam people that way.

I've not had a bulb go for a while, but my garage would change them for free and charge for a bulb.

A skilled mechanic will do the job in 2 minutes.

OK mate. Well the part you need is most probably a 12v festoon bulb and is extremely cheap. You'll need to unscrew the lens over the plate then the dead bulb will pull right out. Pop the new one in, and be careful screwing the lens back on not to over torque the screw to avoid cracking the plastic. Double check the bulb is right before you buy.

This is a common well known scam. They make it look like they’ve stolen your £1.00 number plate bulb to distract you from the fact they’ve removed your engine and replaced it with aged hamsters in little hamster wheels.

It's a bulb that costs pennies and takes moments to fit. They wouldn't have swapped out a bulb of unknown age and reliability (yours) into another person's car when they can use a new one.

Bulbs can break at any moment for a number of reasons so it's just a case of bad timing. If you're unsure of your ability to change a lightbulb with a video guide from YouTube to show you how go to Halfords and pay them to fit it. It will cost you more than the bulb for the fitting fee and will probably take less time to fit that it does to walk to your car from the checkout.
