Should I clone my M.2 to a my new M.2 before or after upgrading my PC

Hello thereee, I am going to be upgrading my PC and part of the upgrade is going from a slower 500gb m.2 to a faster 2T one. I just had a couple questions about this:
-
Should I to the install in new M.2 into my current system first before the upgrade and clone them, or upgrade my system first then clone them?
-
I’m wanting to still use the 500gb unit, and is there a way to wipe it, and have it be available to be used after it’s cloned?

It depends, if the windows install is old then I would just start fresh. if its not too old say less than maybe less than 2 years or u want to keep some stuff u had on the older install then cloning it will be fine

Got it, yeah it’s around 3-4 years old at this point

Is it possible to plug both of the m.2s into my new motherboard and then have it boot into windows on my new m.2 so I can carry over my saved date from games and the such?

Move important files to a usb or other storage. Install windows fresh. No driver issues/conflicts that way.
