What is with the plastic on windshield wipers in the back of SUVs?

I’ve been seeing waaaaaay too many suvs in Pennsylvania with plastic on their windshield wipers in the back. Is this a trend? Like the equivalent to the purple tag on jeans?

I have seen people put plastic newspaper bags on car wipers during ice/snow storms so they don’t have to remove ice but drive around with plastic bag on rear wipers….

I live in the Midwest, and I have never seen this.

I haven’t seen this happen at all until recently and I travel A LOT. As we speak I’m currently on my way to NY and had to pass through PA and NJ. I’ve only seen this happen in PA

Absolutely lol

Car wash employees put that on there so the rolling washers don’t catch and rip it off. Lazy and or dumb vehicle owners don’t take it off afterwards.

The black cover? It gives it a cleaner look

No it’s like a white/clear plastic bag over it

My dealership removed that before i took the car when I bought it (also have a Highlander like the picture). It’s from the factory to protect the wiper

Wut?

I took a picture but this forum doesn’t allow it

Manned car washes will put that on the rear wiper to protect it from the rollers/brushes snagging on the wiper blade, then people don't notice or forget to remove it.
