It's because your dad loved burning plastic garbage in the backyard barrel. It's his legacy.

I don't think I need some penguin to know that forever chemicals are everywhere including remote oceans. The planet. The water. Even inside us. Our blood. Our brain. Heck, our balls.
There is no escape. There is also no known way of getting rid of them in any significant amount. The best we can do is to put less it, and even that I doubt we will do.
So may as well just accept and make peace. Like it or not, forever chemicals is forever. There is a reason why they are called that.

The following submission statement was provided by /u/Portalrules123:
SS: Another day, another study supporting the idea that we have completely saturated the biosphere with ‘forever chemicals’. Related to pollution and collapse as researchers attached devices that can detect PFAS to penguins who commute between the land and the sea along the Patagonian coast of Argentina, which is a fairly remote region near the bottom of South America. Over 90% of the devices found detectable levels of forever chemicals in the environment that the penguins travelled through over the study period. Clearly, a similar ‘atmospheric distillation’ process to other known pollutants seems to be occurring with PFAS wherein higher evaporation at lower latitudes causes them to become airborne and travel towards the poles, where they settle down and accumulate. It seems that no organism is safe from the PFAS scourge that we have unleashed upon the biosphere. Expect studies like this to continue ‘surprising’ people (but not those in r/collapse) no matter how many times a similar conclusion is found.
