5700x replacement

A couple of months ago, my Ryzen 7 5700x starting restarting my PC. Well that's what I thought after testing everything and replacing it with a Ryzen 3 4100 which stopped the restarts. It would restart the PC and even restarting during restores or reinstalls of Windows.
I've been used Ryzen 3 4100 since then but I'm notice it struggling in most new games.
I put off buying another 5700x. What would you guys upgrade too?
My graphics cards is an RX 7700 XT

5700x is close to the best you can do on AM4. 5700x3D is better for gaming but they're out of production and very expensive. 5800XT is a good alternative. 5600x can still run most everything well these days too.
CPU may not be the problem in a situation like this, I'd suspect a power supply or motherboard issue would be the more likely culprit for restarts. It may be behaving with the 4100 because of lower power draw

I did have a IT tech look at it but he was unable to tell me what was wrong. He just said he was able to run it using his power supply and also swapping out the GPU.
I have always thought it was probably power supply I guess the only way to find out gets another power supply and test it. And then I guess if the new power supply still have issues it the motherboard?

The 5700X is also a really low power draw CPU, I doubt (or at least hope) OP isn't running that close to the redline.
/u/Fredknowsall if your use case is mostly or only gaming, consider a 5500X3D from Aliexpress, should cost about the same as or less than the 8-core non-X3D chips and perform broadly better in modern games.

What's your motherboard model and did you upgrade your bios before installing 5700x?
