Have any of you tried Bush’s beans with no sugar added?

As an American that can’t seem to find Heinz anywhere locally, I’ve resorted to the no sugar added Bush’s beans and I like it a lot! There’s 1g of sugar so it’s less than most American processed food.
It was a little weird at first when you put them on toast because it’s a carb on a carb but so good!

I’m not a baked bean fan, but a lot of people here seem to prefer Branston beans over Heinz. It might be worth a look to see if they’re available over there?

Will look, thanks!

I think I had these on vacation in LA a long time ago. The hotel suite had an ancient 1950s gas hob and grill (broiler?) and I'd had 2 weeks of restaurant food, was exhausted from overdoing things in the sun.
So I hit Trader Joe's on the Sunset Strip looking for beans on toast ingredients. There were quite a few Brit actors/musicians around in the hotel bar etc so thought there might be a UK food section.
Anyway there were a few canned bean products, some Mexican, none at all familiar. Luckily a very Simon Cowell type was nearby, heard us talking and recommended one brand which I think was Bush's as the closest to Heinz. It was quite a serious conversation, I felt suddenly homesick.
Turned out the gas hob was disconnected and reception had to call in a guy to come up and get it working. It took a while.
But eventually I got to eat a reasonable approximation of UK beans on toast in the Chateau Marmont, before flying home the next day.

Clark beans with Tomato Sauce are my favourite. They're Canadian.

Brit in America here. Go to your local Indian, Polish, or Italian “fresh market” grocery store and they’ll be in the International aisle, Costco currently sell them or get them (and sausages and bacon) from jollyposhfoods.com
Sweetsomber@reddit (OP)
I understand that they are different because bush’s are brown sugar based and Heinz is tomato based but I think the no sugar added won’t be as offensive to a Brit if they had to eat it. 😂

Regular Bush beans flavour is way less sweet and more BBQ flavour, which makes sense as baked beans are a BBQ side dish in the USA. The new Bluey beans are similar. But overall they’re also thicker and gloopy. British baked beans are much more watery (juicy?) and anyway Heinz now come in all flavours including maple syrup, cheese and curry so 🤷♀️
SUMMATMAN@reddit
Never heard of them. But I DO think the reduced sugar beans options we have here are absolutely fine, which are probably similar to that, so you might be onto something decent. Also beans are fibrous and have lots of protein, I wouldn't call it carb on carb.
Sweetsomber@reddit (OP)
I think the better word would have been starch, but yeah I love the fiber they add, it’s become a staple in my diet.s

I’ve spent 40 years living in the US. I’ve always been able to find them in Indian grocery stores in CA and NV. Amazed recently to find them in Costco but they were only there a month.

Thanks, I will look!

As someone who has been buying my own food for 50+ years I can honestly say I've never seen or heard of Bush's beans
fblthpthewise@reddit
It’s an American brand, they’re asking if they’re comparable. 50+ years of buying food doesn’t help with reading comprehension obviously.
Separate_Rise_8932@reddit
And they were asking if anyone had tried them not if it was a good sub..which clearly most of us haven't tried American imported baked beans of all things in the UK
PassiveTheme@reddit
Here's a wild thought though - some people on this sub might have visited the US, and some might even live there or have loved there for some time.
OP is clearly looking for someone who has tried them, you don't need to contribute to tell everyone how clever you are.
Sweetsomber@reddit (OP)
I think the point for my post was more to try to close the gap between the two. Brit’s say bushes beans are too sugary so I think the no added sugar might be a decent alternative. It’s still brown sugar based instead of tomato based, though!
Separate_Rise_8932@reddit
You should take your own advice from the 2nd paragraph, love.
wildflower12345678@reddit
Beans are protein, not carb.
Sweetsomber@reddit (OP)
I guess you’re right, I should have maybe said starchy?
BertBlenkinsop@reddit
Branston beans mmmm
Most_Average_Joe@reddit
Most places don’t stock them in the UK. They are US imports. So I can’t imagine most people here want to spend £2.50+ on a single tin.
I have only saw them on import sites myself.
