Is there anything you do not wash/clean?

Since I asked. Here are two of mine:
- Pans I use for baking bread. They just need a wipe, and a dusting of semolina for the next batch
- One of those pyramidal cheese graters. Cheese dries, is scraped off next time.
Or am I just dirty?
smellyfeet25@reddit
yes. you did ask
CrossCityLine@reddit
Never ever wash the tins you use to make Yorkshire puddings in.
Apart_Reindeer_528@reddit
American here, who's dying to try Yorkshire pudding!
aje0200@reddit
Can’t you just make some?
Apart_Reindeer_528@reddit
Well I absolutely could and mine would probably put yours to shame, was just trying to be appreciative of the professionals, no need to be so rude.
CrossCityLine@reddit
Just to make your extra jealous here’s an example of the ones I used to make for Sunday lunch at my last kitchen.
CrossCityLine@reddit
Being a USian you must’ve had popovers right? Essentially the same thing.
littlehamster_@reddit
Would this cause them to start sticking? I bought a Yorkshire pudding tin years ago and it's first use is the only time they came out decent and didn't stick to the pan.
Thandoscovia@reddit
Same as cast iron really - wipe down & grease and you’ll be fine
CrossCityLine@reddit
Yep it’ll make them stick and honestly the years of polymerised oil (ideally beef fat) adds flavour as well as making them totally non stick.
OkAd7789@reddit
An agency chef did that while he was covering the regular chef’s paternity leave at a hotel I used to work at. In Yorkshire. The pan was his great-grandmother’s. The guy was heartbroken.
CrossCityLine@reddit
Yeah it’s a fucking travesty whenever something like that happens. I’d be livid.
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
FEATHER PILLOWS DO NOT DO IT
ExperienceNo2543@reddit
What happens if you do
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
Wet dog smell for life. Absolute hell to dry even with a tumble dryer and stinks the house out while it's running for 3 days. Better hope you have a spare to sleep on
ExperienceNo2543@reddit
Noted. Thank you 🫡
kmp633@reddit
Turns back into a duck
ExperienceNo2543@reddit
I see only a positive here
jamnut@reddit
The feathers get too wet and they can't fly any more
geese_moe_howard@reddit
I used the same unwashed work-mug for so long that when I went on annual leave, something weird grew in it.
OkAd7789@reddit
That was your replacement.

FornyHucker22@reddit
Fkin cheese grater? Just add a little dried mouldy cheese to every thing with grated cheese?!
Dirty. 🫣
puddinandpi@reddit
I never don’t wash my cheese grater but to be fair….. cheese already is mould
SpaTowner@reddit
Cheese isn’t mould.
puddinandpi@reddit
Oh
geese_moe_howard@reddit
Yeah, that's pure filth.
MisstianoPenaldo@reddit
I don't tend to wash the ceiling if that counts?
But no, I wash anything that has touched food - obviously if it is just an apple on a plate the plate will only be getting a 2 second rinse etc but I wouldn't just not - it's almost instinct at this point
QuickWalk4862@reddit
If I’ve made fried eggs I won’t wash the pan I just put it away until next time, just makes it taste better. Am I gross? 😂
Fit-Bedroom-7645@reddit
My coffee mug gets a light swill before re-use. Maybe get a full wash once per quarter.
Fine_Analyst_4408@reddit
The only time my nan was ever furious with me was when I thought I would be nice and wash her and my grandads filthy tea cups. Put a lot of effort into scrubbing them clean. She said I'd ruined tea for the next 5 years and that it just needs a light swill and a wipe down on the outside.
Fit-Bedroom-7645@reddit
Well seasoned
Imperterritus0907@reddit
I’m surprised no one’s said mugs with the amount of nasty ones I’ve encountered in office cabinets over the years because people just rinse them..
Thin_Pin2863@reddit
My coffee mug.
Drink, rinse, repeat.
Bloatville@reddit
Bread knife
PreferenceSpecial413@reddit
I try to avoid washing my jeans.
Fine_Analyst_4408@reddit
Oven trays, just properly cover them with tin foil and you can just wipe them down if needed
CrinklyPacket@reddit
I don’t really wash my water bottle. Just the lid where the mouth touches. I’ll rinse it in hot water every few days but it’s always getting refilled with water multiple times a day so 🤷🏻♀️
brutal_and_beautiful@reddit
I wash everything because i'mm not a disgusting person.
Careless-Giraffe-623@reddit
Expensive kitchen knives... Why is it ruined?
You put it in the dish washer, didn't you...
A quick wipe down with soapy water, dry immediately and stick it back on the rack for next usage.
PingouinFluffy@reddit
My omelette pan, it never sticks and is fantastic.
binaryhextechdude@reddit
I heat my pan and wipe it out with paper towel. Ready for round 2
RoutineAbroad3486@reddit
Hopefully you’ve probably realised how disgusting the cheese one is by the replies
binaryhextechdude@reddit
The cheese grater situation is an abomination and should never be spoken of.
MrsLibido@reddit
I have severe contamination OCD and I don't know why I thought opening this post would be a good idea
Motor-Platform295@reddit
The bread knife; if just cutting bread it goes back in the block.
chrisr3240@reddit
I’d rather drink pond water than Ganges water today
Badknees24@reddit
The cheese grater thing is horrific. Wash it!
acceberbex@reddit
Bread knife, tea spoon - quick wipe or rinse is usually sufficient Jackets and coats - rarely, especially waterproofs as it's a sod to re-proof them The outside of my car - rarely. I'll wipe the lights or number plate if needed and when my hands get dirty from opening the boot but other than that, nope. It's about a twice a year thing
jamnut@reddit
Bread knife, my WFH coffee mug (rinsed on weekends), the spoon used for tea/coffee making, my arsehole, the chinos I wear once every 4 months, my smart shorts worn every 2 months, my suit worn even less frequently etc etc
yepsothisismyname@reddit
The cheese one is.....wow.
TTNNBB2023@reddit
My mind.
kmp633@reddit
Loads of things. But I definitely clean the cheese grater.
Anything that goes into the oven and isn't covered in oil or fat just gets put back in there. Baking trays etc. I figure multiple bakings are pretty sterilising. Same with the air fryer liners. Unless it's covered in meat juice it's just getting a quick shake and put back in.
Robertinho678@reddit
The cheese grater think is gross and probably dangerous.
WitShortage@reddit
Cast iron or carbon steel skillet pans (rub down with wire scrubber under hot water) Bread knife
Can opener
I also rarely wash colanders, since they’re only going to have a panful of boiling water thrown through them the next time they’re used
Whyunhappyme@reddit
Don’t say it, Don’t say it, Don’t say it……… my balls 😂
ContextRules@reddit
I knew there would be one! I knew it smelled like the east side of Bradford in here.
skirmisher808@reddit
Yeah whoever said you’re nasty was right I’m afraid. As things Reddit though you’ll probably have some people posting that “it’s fine”.
If I was an MP I’d introduce a Private Members Bill to amend the OSA and make it compulsory for a ‘liveness’ check of the contents of their sink for high volume posters.
SpaTowner@reddit
The bread pans I wouldn’t quibble with, I wouldn’t wash ours but my partner thinks they need it to avoid rancid oil. And it’s rancid cheese fats that make me think not washing the cheese grater is… not something I would consider in my own kitchen.
NoFewSatan@reddit
No, wtf?
fastestman4704@reddit
Woks and omelette pans
Hyrules_Saviour@reddit
The cheese one seems weird to me, cheese goes mouldy. I don't wash my taint. Seals in the flavour.
FuzzyPalpitation-16@reddit
99% dark chocolate taint
Fragrant-Attorney-73@reddit
Fair enough.
tellemhey@reddit
Rarely wash coats or jackets unless necessary. Only outdoor gear when it needs nikwax
IdiotBearPinkEdition@reddit
Bread knife. Swirly drinks frother/stirrer. My coffee moka pot (just rinse). Baking sheets for chips. A pan if I've boiled something clean (again, just rinse).
C0nnectionTerminat3d@reddit
Cupcake tins. as long as no batter spilled onto the tin i don’t wash it.
Ornery-Wasabi-1018@reddit
Bread - agree
Cheese grater - yuck.
Don't clean: pans than have just boiled frozen peas.
