Schools in Canada unironically call them "whores" when they teach this part of history. They don't cover it up and all. It's honestly pretty funny. The reality is. The King sent widows, prostitutes, and orphans. Basically people who wouldn't be missed.

Looked it up and this seems to be a common misconception because France actually sent prostitutes and criminals to populate New Orleans. For New France (modern day Quebec) they sent mostly orphans, widows and other improverished women, but not exclusively prostitutes. It was rather the "occasionally or soon to be" prostitute crowd.
The prostitutes deported to New Orleans were all called filles de joie, literally a french euphemism for prostitutes. The Filles du Roi (King’s Daughters) sent to New France basically got a name that's a word play with that euphemism.
They didn't force them (like the deported ones) but rather offered a deal: move there and marry a settler, in exchange you get a decent dowry you retain control over after the wedding and live a life in far better social standing than at home. They were looking to recruit \~500 women this way and ended up with \~800 because lots of women wanted to take that ticket. There was quite the distinction to the deported prostitutes.
It's true that they were not missed in France, but they were not a legion of prostitutes forced there to keep the settlers locked down.

Ignore Wikipedia, they regularly sanitize and omit details because they rather not offend people than to be right. The academic works around the topic of 'King's daughters' from 17th century were extremely straightforward and called them whores. From aristocrats to writers, pretty much every men of reputable stature who lived in New France(Quebec) during that period explicitly wrote down 'whores'. These women were "recommended"(chosen) by the church and General Hospital of France(it was a board of authority of sort and not just a hospital, think Department of Health & Human Services) to migrate to New France, often times it was in-exchange for absolution rather than just for a new life. The ironic thing is the only people who wrote articles to deny it were ironically the people from, or associated with the churches and the General Hospital of France

Canada didnt exist yet. this was the Kingdom of France/ New France at the time, and they were rounded up by Cardinal Richelieu from Paris streets for the Baron of Montreal for map seeding and mobile spawn points for Voltigeurs, Fusiliers etc. The Anglos in atypical Incel prone behaviors ended the importation of French whores and actually exported many to Louisiana and Mississippi. Effectively ending the Golden Age of the Ancien Regime abd its many whores.
