It’s a real pity BMW won’t make a manual xDrive M2... Coupe, inline-six, twin-turbo, rear-biased AWD. I’ve got déjà vu!
texasnick83@reddit
Sadly they have put little effort into the MT and the MT cant handle the torque the ZF can. It is the limiting factor in trying to make more power with the s58 and is also why the CS is AT only.
I am and always have been a HUGE manual guy. I very reluctantly got my M2 with the ZF. But I think if I did it again I would go with the ZF again. The ratios alone make the car way faster plus it shifts faster plus you can throw a 650 hp tune at it.
I miss driving a manual sometimes, but the ZF is actually very engaging to put in manual mode on its fastest setting and drive hard.
SirTickleyPickely@reddit
I have a 2011 335 sedan with the N55 and M sport transmission and it outputs around 400HP. This thing to me is borderline already to fast for legal roads, I couldn't imagine another 50% of power. As a track toy I guess sure, but highway and city driving that seems insane.
Avedas@reddit
M340i stock is under 400hp will already get you to license losing territory in 3rd. At least for road usage I really don't understand why people want insane hp numbers when you'll never be able to use it. Very few places even have enough space to safely hit 200kph.
Kryptus@reddit
What European car brand has a manual that can handle 500+ hp?
R_V_Z@reddit
There was the Aston Martin Valour, if that counts.
3rdreprieve@reddit
Alfa Romeo had a manual transmission in European Guilia QFs. Those had 505hp FWIW

cpxchewy@reddit
Porsche. GT3 is manual
Riverrattpei@reddit
There was also had the 7 speed in the 540hp Sport Classic
But they also had to drop the torque by 110lb-ft for that transmission to survive
kmj442@reddit
Having had a Supra with the zf and an m2 with the manual the zf is the right choice unfortunately. That being said the getrag 250 in the e36 is better than both…at least in feeling
texasnick83@reddit
I really want to drive a g87 with the MT and see how it compares. I have enough seat time now with the ZF that I would be able to tell pretty quick.
But at the strip I can trap 121 mph and that to me as an old guy is insane for a stock car.
Sad day honestly. I love driving MT but I also like to drag and autox and it's too fast too ignore.
kmj442@reddit
Agreed it’s sad. I sold the Supra to get the manual and it just wasnt it. The m2 is objectively a great car but after having both, liked driving the Supra more
Sad-Anteater-2908@reddit
It would be a BMW manual so it would be rubber bandy and kinda janky
turb0_encapsulator@reddit
I'd rather see a convertible version than AWD version.
inquiryreport@reddit
M-xdrive isn’t compatible with the manual. It’s much more than just an xdrive transfercase bolted to the end of a transmission. It’s an integrated brain to connect the engine controller, transmission controller, traction control, and the diffs together to operate significantly more seamless for better performance.
Short version it would require a significant amount of software rewrite to get a manual version together beyond all the actually hardware development.
Given manuals place in the market as an enthusiast /purist toy at this point I assume they see a high correlation with rwd buyers
There was a lot more fanfare around mxdrive when the G90 launched if you want to dig into the details
QuinTheReal@reddit
They would if they could. Manual gearbox has higher emissions and they already need to do everything to meet total sale co2 requirements
DaBanninator@reddit
Nobody cares 😂
justin_memer@reddit
Probably because it's easier to break the drivetrain with a manual.
UnnamedStaplesDrone@reddit
Samir, you’re breaking the car.
OkVast2122@reddit
Oh yeah, baby! Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, 1989 model, I’m calling ya name!
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
So basically BMW just wants the M2 to be exactly like M240 with a bigger turbo and harsher suspension
It's weird how all the actual M cars are just slowly converging into being power upgrades to the M-lite cars. The 3-ton M5 was already a bad sign
PurchaseStreet9991@reddit
As an M-lite driver I agree
I see no problem with offering that option, but it’s going to go the way of the M3 where they slowly box out the more old school options (manual and RWD) to the point where 90% of the models they build and sell will be in the auto/AWD configurations
Puzzled_Ad_3072@reddit
The problem is that the manual options simply doesn't sell well enough to justify them.
Kryptus@reddit
Government safety, emissions, and fuel efficiency regulations are.to blame, not the manufacturer.
Astramael@reddit
How do you get that read on things?
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
The M cars are supposed to be the best expression of the ‘ultimate driving machines’ that BMW is known for
Whereas the M-lites (Mxxx models) are far sportier and have higher output than the base cars without sacrificing everyday comfort. The M240i is quick, comfortable, available in AWD and only with an automatic
I don’t really understand the appeal of an AWD M2 that’s automatic when it’s 30% more than the M240i. To me it’s another example of BMW diluting the M brand like they did by adding half a ton to the M5.
TL;DR it’s fine in a vacuum but kinda pointless when you already have an M-lite lineup
SnikySquirrel@reddit
The sooner they facelift all their cars to fit the Neue Klasse design the better.
Fiveby21@reddit
The sooner they end the Neue Klasse era the better! The interiors are an abomination.
tman2damax11@reddit
BMW used to have the such a good consistent brand image. Now it looks like every model is designed by a different team and none of them talk to each other.
strongmanass@reddit
That's the point. They want distinct appeal to distinct target buyers. I love the current 7 series but youd have to pay me to drive a 3 series. I find the design too boring.
Gatortribe@reddit
I'm curious as to why they're going with i3 50 instead of i3 M50. The ICE version is going to be the M350 after all. I wonder if they're restricting it to one M performance per class going forward.
maxipanda8321@reddit
Probably they will have an i3 m60 down the line.
NotInclined2Maturity@reddit
Damn the upbadging goes hard
maxipanda8321@reddit
Depends what you call upbadging. After all the numbers relate to horsepower ratings, and they do tend to increase the hp, the m might be upbadgd, but to be honest m lites are basically sporty enough to deserve the M(40i) designation
rugbyj@reddit
They've actually reached the point where they have no more M badges left.
jkggwp@reddit
Giving BMW fans all the cars they don’t want.
joeschmo28@reddit
They look like they have buck teeth
slowcaptain@reddit
That X4 looks atrocious.
SirTickleyPickely@reddit
Is the ICE 3 series sharing the same platform as the EV?
Sad, sad news if true. Means its going to be the size of a 5 series basically.
Captain_Alaska@reddit
No.
Maximilianne@reddit
i wonder if BMW M buyers just expect depreciation cause expensive sedan/passenger coupes tend to depreciate alot so the appeal of a manual for resale purposes is out of the window and thus most are buying autos instead of manuals
bschmidt25@reddit
The article states the i4 is on the way out with no replacement, but it wouldn't make much sense to develop a new model with the i3 on the horizon. Sure, the current i4 is a "Gran Coupe", but there was no 3 series BEV sedan alongside it. I'd be surprise if the i4 lives on, especially with the iX4 coming out.
strongmanass@reddit
Rumor is a coupe and convertible.
gsteff@reddit
There have been leaks and photos of a 2 door EV under development that could be a new i4 (coupe instead of grand coupe this time).
frankchn@reddit
There was an Chinese-market specific G28 i3, but yeah everywhere else got the i4.
DaBanninator@reddit
There will be an i3 touring in America.
Master_of_stuff@reddit
Maybe there will be an i4 coupé on the new architecture at some point
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
For their list in discontinued models, I thought XM would be on the list. Looks like it will continue 1 or 2 years.
peopeopeopeo10@reddit
Trying to sell the project to McLaren for their new SUV
strongmanass@reddit
Why would McLaren want it? The Forseven merger was supposed to already come with significant SUV development.
RicardoMoyer@reddit
i mean it’s not a bad car it’s just ugly, mclaren does a lot of things wrong but looks isn’t one of them, seems like the perfect fit to me
Kryptus@reddit
The XM is better than the Maserati and Astin Martin SUVs, IMO. McLaren could do worse.
RicardoMoyer@reddit
hopefully the new X5 comes with a decent price drop for the old gen, i’ve been eyeing a couple ‘23 x5 comps but they’re still at 70k+
pimfram@reddit
I'll be all over whenever they make an EV comparable to the M3.
Privateer_Lev_Arris@reddit
How come there are no NA reviews of the i3? Apparently it’s this amazing car but nobody has driven it.
N4n45h1@reddit
Is it out in NA yet? Definitely on my list for a car to consider this year.
Privateer_Lev_Arris@reddit
It's not out anywhere. There are no review, nobody's driven it. Somehow it's the car of the year but doesn't even exist yet.
Content-Ganache6643@reddit
There are driving reviews of the prototype (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReCYwzWEekE&t=832s).
The i3 is not car of the year, the iX3 is.
Privateer_Lev_Arris@reddit
Anyone who speaks English?
Slasher1738@reddit
Damn, no x7
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
They already make an X7, this is just for changes and new additions
Slasher1738@reddit
Obviously. Imthe current model is old and needs a new generation.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Late 27 as a 28 MY
CallLivesMatter@reddit
I hope the LCI 7 Series has more lights on the grill. It needs more lights on the grill.
Professional-Form275@reddit
Hmm did they put kidneys on the i3? When they revealed it I didn't see any
costafilh0@reddit
Retiring all beautiful models and less ugly models, and keeping only the fvcking ugly as fvck models and launching even uglier models?
God it.
ItsReallyS13Silvia@reddit
BMW has been killing it over the last decade, especially with its M cars, which are virtually unmatched in the sports car segment. I don’t think BMW needs to worry about the opinions of Redditors who couldn’t even afford a clapped-out e46.
willpc14@reddit
First of all, how dare you. Second of all, yeah, you're probably right based on sales figures.
